IAF's SU-30, hawk jets carry out drills in civilian airfields in eastern India
'SPICE missile to integrate with Su-30MKI'
Indian Air Force(IAF) on Thursday flew frontline fighter jets from civilian airfields inKolkata, Guwahati and Andal in eastern India.
IAF's SU-30MKI aircraft took off from Kolkata and Guwahati airfields and Hawk jets from Andal airfield, the Air Force said.
The fighters carried out both day and night flying operations during the exercise.
"The aim was to validate the fighter operating procedure, familiarise the crew with airfields and exercise coordination with civil agencies for such operations," it added.
The drills were an exercise in war preparedness.The IAF has been trying to be flexible for any eventuality where it may need to shift operating bases at a moment's notice.

The Air Force is also said to be overhauling its capabilities to accommodate the Rafale jets which are due to arrive in September.
The two-day operation from May 1st and May 2nd took place as part of day and night flying exercise.
In March, the IAF had carried out major readiness exercise over the Punjab and Jammu sectors in the wake of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan over the Balakot air strikes.
During the exercise, IAF jetsincluding frontline fighter aircraft flew at supersonic speeds in the border districts including Amritsar in Punjab in the western sector.
IAF has maintained high level of preparedness post-Balakot with Pakistan threat having abated in recent months.
