The historian Ramachandra Guha has been served a legal notice by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the BJP's youth wing, the Economic Times reported.

The ET reported that the notice was served on Guha for referring to the "Sangh Parivar" while condemning the killing of journalist Gauri Lankesh.

Guha had said to Scroll.in -- a day after Gauri Lankesh's murder -- that "“It is very likely that her murderers came from the same Sangh Parivar from which the murderers of Dabholkar, Pansare and Kalburgi came.”

The five-page legal notice, the ET reported, was issued on behalf of Karnataka BJP Yuva Morcha secretary Karunakar Khasale.

The notice says "defamatory, baseless and false allegations" were made by Guha.

The ET reported that the notice calls on Guha to apologise categorically and publicly, and to communicate the apology directly to Khasale and the BJP Yuva Morcha within three days, or civil and criminal defamation cases will be filed against him.

The ET report said Guha could not be contacted since he was overseas but that a little later, he tweeted:
