Bengaluru floods: Several areas waterlogged after heavy overnight rains

Heavy rains lashed Bengaluru overnight on Tuesday (Oct 22) andresulted in a flood-like situation in many parts of the city, disrupting normal life. Rescue boats were seen navigating through the flooded streets as many residents were left stranded.
Areas including Yelahanka, Vidataranayapura, Jakkur, Kodigehalli and Horamavu in North Bengaluru received heavy downpours. Many homes were flooded in the region with up to six feet of water as the Doddabommasandra Lake breached. Rescue operations are carried out by NDRF and SDRF teams to evacuate the residents.
“One more compound wall has collapsed, and there’s way more water this time. We have been told to evacuate and NDRF boats are here. There will be no drinking water or power for the next 24-48 hours,” Amruth Kiran, a resident of Kendriya Vihar apartments at Yelahanka, told The Hindu.
According to the Northeast Bengaluru traffic police ACP, the service road from Kogilu Junction towards IAF has been closed for rescue operations.
Frustrated residents of Bengaluru took to social media, expressing their anger at the authorities for failing to manage the city’s infrastructure as the streets in several parts of the city are frequently waterlogged during the rainy season every year.

The authorities have closed the schools for the second time in a week as heavy rains and waterlogging have disrupted traffic and normal life for the residents.
The heavy rainfall in the city also affected flight operations at the Bengaluru airport, resulting in delays after 9 pm. Over 20 flights were delayed, and several others, including IndiGo flights from Delhi, Chandigarh, and Hyderabad, and Air India flights from Delhi, were diverted to Chennai.
The weather department has predicted more rain with thunderstorms and cloudy sky till October 24.
