Bengaluru building collapse: A seven-storey under-construction building collapsed in Bengaluru on Tuesday evening, claiming life of seven people and severely injuring five others. Officials at the sitefeared there were a few still trapped under the rubble.
The collapse took place in the Babusapalya area in northern Bengaluru amid heavy downpour. Initially, 20 people were believed to be trapped under the debris.
Two rescue vans from the fire and emergency department were deployed immediately to the site of the incident.
According to a preliminary investigation by a fire department official, the entire building collapsed, trapping those inside.

The police have also arrested the owner of the building, Muniraju Reddy and have charged him with negligence.

CCTV footage captured the moment the seven-storey building collapsed. Sources also indicated that the building only had permission for four floors and that construction violations took place.
According to sources, the pillar rods for the building should have been 28-30 mm thick, but those used were of18-20 mm thickness. In other parts, such as for moulding, where 14-16 mm thick rods should have been used, there was a possibility that the rods used were only 8-10 mm thick.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar visited the accident site on Tuesday evening and said that action would be taken against all illegal constructions in Bengaluru.

He said, “I was told this is an illegal construction without proper permissions. Strict action will be taken against the builder, contractor and everyone involved. I ordered the officials to identify such constructions across the city and stop them immediately.”
Bengaluru recorded 186.2 mm of rain, which is said to be the highest single-day rain in the last 25 years. The north side of the city faced huge brunt after roads were waterlogged and traffic came to a standstill. Many apartments in Yelahanka were underwater after rain had created havoc in the city.
