
The approval rating of Prime Minister Narendra Modi soared has since coronavirus outbreak, a US-based survey and research firm called Morning Consult reported on Thursday.
On April 21, PM Modi's approval rating was calculated at 83%. On January 7, his rating was at 76%, according to the data.
Another survey was done by IANS-CVoter which showed that trust in PM Modi has increased to 93.5% by April 21. By March 25, the number was at 76.8%.
India's health ministry said today that 1,718 new coronavirus cases were reported in the last 24 hours taking the total number of cases to 33,050 in the country.
"The recovery rate is now 25.19 per cent. A progressive recovery rate has been observed," India's health ministry official Lav Agrawal said.
In recent months, PM Modi's government has been subjected to criticism over the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act which triggered massive protest across the country and economic slowdown.
But since the coronavirus outbreak, PM Modi and his government have received praise over its swift response by imposing lockdown under preventive measures.
India is under lockdown for over a month now. The current extension of lockdown ends on May 3 and the government is holding various rounds of discussions with state government and cabinet minister over whether there is a need to extend it further.
