Story highlights

BJP-Shiv Sena is leading in 161 seats in the 288-seat Maharashtra assembly, more than the simple majority required to rule one of India`s richest states.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said that 15 independent MLAs have contacted him and they were ready to join the BJP-Shiv Sena government.

Others may also come but these 15 will come and most of them are BJP or Shiv Sena rebels, added the Maharashtra chief minister.

''We are going to go ahead according to what has been decided between Shiv Sena and us (BJP). What has been decided is something which you will get to know when the time is right,'' he added.

He described two results -- by-poll for Satara Lok Sabha constituency and Parli Assembly constituency -- as shocking.

''Six of our ministers have lost, we will find out reasons tomorrow onward. Today's the day to celebrate our victory and let us do that.'' he added.

BJP-Shiv Sena is set to retain power in Maharashtra. The coalition is leading in 161 seats in the 288-seat Maharashtra assembly, more than the simple majority required to rule one of India`s richest states.
