Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has penned a new two-year deal on Thursday (July 4) as the Dutchman continues to serve at Old Trafford. Ten Hag, reported to be on the brink of beingsacked after the club’s FA Cup win over arch-rivals Manchester City has signed a two-year extension which will see him at the helm until 2026. "I am very pleased to have reached an agreement with the club to continue working together.

"Looking back at the past two years, we can reflect with pride on two trophies and many examples of progression from where we were when I joined.

"However, we must also be clear that there is still lots of hard work ahead to reach the levels expected of Manchester United, which means challenging for English and European titles,” Ten Hag said after penning a new deal with United.

Having been on the cusp of sack for another poor season, Ten Hag was retained by the United board after an internal review was carried out. The club hierarchy was on the hunt for a new manager after the FA Cup final win over Manchester City with Thomas Tuchel being lined up as a possible replacement. The club was also monitoring Mauricio Pochettino and Graham Potter who had been linked with a possible move to the Red Devils.

However, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his board members believed that Ten Hag was the right man to move ahead at least at the start of the season. Getting a new manager would have also seen United pay a transfer feeto the clubs even though Tuchel and Pochettino left their clubs at the end of the season as they are still under contract.

The club will now focus on the transfer window where they will be expected to get a new left-back and a midfielder. They are looking for Luke Shaw’s cover while Casemiro is also expected to leave before the season starts.
