Hungary footballer Barnabás Varga is in stable condition after suffering various broken bones on the face in a horrific injury on Sunday (June 23). Varga suffered the injuries during the Euro 2024 clash against Scotland in Germany.

Varga, however, might undergo a surgery and won't be taking part in the European championship anymore.

The incident happened in the 68th minute of the game when Varga collided with Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn. Varga fell on the ground immediately after collision with Gunn while trying to tackle an air ball after a free kick.

He was attended by medical staff on the spot before being stretchered off the field. He was later shifted to a local hospital in Stuttgart, Germany.

Hungary football association posted an update about the footballer on social media platform X, which read (translated with Google):  "Several bones in Barnabás Varga's face were broken during the collision during the match, and he also suffered a concussion. The @Fradi_HU striker is most likely to undergo surgery. He spends the night in the hospital in Stuttgart. The whole team is rooting for him!"

As for the match, Hungary won the game 1-0 and kept their Round of 16 hopes alive in the tournament.

Speaking to ESPN after the match, Hungary midfielder Callum Styles said: "It means everything, obviously we were celebrating with the fans then, my voice is a little bit gone because of all the shouting. Hopefully that does the job, but we've done all we can now so we'll have to wait."

It is to be noted that Hungary had lost both of their previous matches against Germany and Switzerland and will now be depended on other results to advance in the tournament.

As for Scotland, it was the end of road for them in Euro 2024.
