England vs Netherlands Euro 2024 Semifinal

England started their semifinal in Euro 2024 on Wednesday (Jul 10) against Netherlands in the same manner as they had in the previous knockout games - conceding an early goal.

Xavi Simons shot a rocket from outside the box in the top left corner of English goalpost to give the Dutch 1-0 lead in the seventh minute of the game.

England have never won three consecutive knockout games coming from behind but this time they gave themselves a chance - 12 minutes later.

England captain Harry Kane tried netting the ball when Dutchman Denzel Dumfries led with his studs to stop the shot. The ball didn't go in but Kane fell on the pitch in pain. A penalty was given eventually which Kane converted into his 66th international goal.

Three minutes later, England almost doubled their lead only for Dumfries again to stop a Foden'stouchjust on the goal-line while himself being behind it.

England played superbly, almost with a sense of urgency, especially after conceding the goal, making 307 passes with a whopping 91 per cent accuracy.

They had another chance to score a goal in the 32nd minute but Foden's shot hit the goalpost - just enough on the outside to miss the inside.

Overall, England took seven shots with four of them being on target during their 63 per cent ball possession. Netherlands, on the other hand, were restricted to 37 per cent ball possession only.

The Dutch could manage only three shots and only one on the target. They also conceded four fouls during the first 45 minutes while the Three Lions made just one.

Only one yellow card was shown through the entire first half - that too for Netherlands' Dumfries for his stud-backed attempt to stop an English goal by Kane. It was eventually given as a penalty post the review.
