Netflix&rsquo;s new web series The Royals- featuring Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter- holds a lot of potential. In a crime thriller-infested OTT space, light-hearted romantic comedies are a win-win, particularly at a time when there is so much despair outside the screen otherwise. One would ideally want to sit back, grab a bucket of popcorn or a tub of ice cream, and binge-watch the slow-burning romance between Ishaan and Bhumi on the show. The Royals, after all, is a story of a reluctant prince and a go-getter self-made woman- they look good, they have smoldering chemistry, and the locations are fabulous- all serving as a perfect ingredient for a feel-good romance drama. Yet creator Rangita Pritish Nandy&rsquo;s The Royals falters too much, making the premise of the whole show feel too superfluous and lame to be taken seriously.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>
<h2 class="MsoNormal"><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p>The Plot <o:p></o:p></h2>
Sophie Kanmani Shekhar, the hot-shot CEO of a hospitality brand, meets horse-loving, reluctant heir to the throne of Morpur, Aviraaj Singh, and sparks fly. She is an impulsive overachiever, while he is a reluctant King of a cash-strapped, crumbling palace. Their first meeting doesn&rsquo;t go the way they initially think it would. Soon enough, Sophie comes knocking to Motibagh Palace in Morpur, which is a unique B&amp;B experience where commoners can meet and interact and live for a few days with the royals. Aviraaj is obviously not keen on the idea, but his brother Digvijay and mother Padmaja remind him of the impending dues that the Palace has to pay and he eventually agrees. But can all things be that smooth? Throw in some past secrets, exes, the looming presence of Aviraaj&rsquo;s late father, some secret desires and dreams and a skeptical Venture Capitalist who is not willing to place bets on Sophia&rsquo;s risky ideas &ndash; and it&rsquo;s chaos all over. And amid all this, can love blossom between a Rajkumar and an &lsquo;aam kumari&rsquo;? Can the King save his kingdom? Can the CEO safeguard her company and roll out her most ambitious project?&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>

<h2 class="MsoNormal">What works<o:p></o:p></h2>
It is a story of Indian royalty that blends modernity with Indian traditions. The Royals has a very good-looking cast, and equally well-shot locations, which makes the series visually very appealing. The makers also ensemble an interesting set of actors together- from Sakshi Tanwar who plays the complicated Padmaja to the reluctant prince Ishaan Khatter to Bhumi Pednekar, the ambitious CEO to Adinath Kothare, the shrewd VC of Bhumi&rsquo;s company- the show boasts of credible actors. It also features Zeenat Aman in the most underwritten character of a Rajmata, who comes and goes without really creating much of an impact. Along with these big names, there are also internet stars like comedian Sumukhi Suresh, Lisa Mishra, and OTT regular Vihaan Samant- each playing their parts well.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>

Khatter and Pednekar&rsquo;s romance is the highlight of the show, and the actors look super hot and exude hot chemistry. Both credible actors in their own right, they together try to elevate the show to a great length and are also quite successful at that. Vihaan Samant, an actor who in a short period created a niche for himself in the OTT space, is also in good form as the prince, waiting to take up bigger roles even as he harbours dreams of becoming a master chef. Lisa Mishra, the singer, is also a revelation as the strong, logical best friend of Sophia who has eyes for the Princess. <o:p></o:p>
While the writing is questionable and the series takes forever to establish the main plot, it does come together and shows spark in the final two episodes, and ends on a cliffhanger, opening up possibilities of a second half. The scenes between Aviraaj and his siblings are well-played out and feel organic and natural.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>

Unfortunately, the show&rsquo;s flaws are much more glaring. It ultimately dumbs down everything and makes every character and their problem look very lame. For the longest time, you don&rsquo;t quite get what Aviraaj is running away from or why Sophia gets anxious thinking of her parents. We are told she is impulsive and he is an escapist &ndash; but the reasons remain unknown. Also, their falling in love seems slightly misplaced. It is also a shame to underutilize so many of the actors. Sumukhi Suresh as the restless jumpy assistant is barely there for the laughs, Zeenat Aman is reduced to a ditzy intoxicated old royal who mutters and mumbles mostly, Chunky Panday looks and behaves like a buffoon- the humour of the series is as inconsistent as the character&rsquo;s issues in life.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>

On May 7, India launched Operation Sindoor, which targeted and destroyed nine terror locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation was in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, one of the deadliest in Kashmir in recent years. On April 22, gunmen opened fire on a group of tourists, resulting in the deaths of 26 innocent people.

'Caught red-handed, now backpedaling': Netizens call out Reliance for Operation Sindoor trademark application

The tactic of presenting old content with a fresh polish is something Indian audiences are quite familiar with. In 2020, the world was captivated by Panchayat, a one-of-a-kind show that won millions of hearts with its innocence and simple storytelling. Five years later, we now have plenty of shows set in rural India, highlighting everyday life and chores. The most recent addition to this list was Dupahiya, a similar format with slight changes here and there.
In a few months, again, we have got the new entry to the list, which is Gram Chikitsalay, the TVF series that comes from the makers of the Panchayat. And watching the show, it felt like we were watching a story from the world of Phulera or a village nearby. &nbsp;&nbsp;
<h2>Gram Chikitsalay - what is the new story about?</h2>
The show takes you to a village of Jharkhand, called Bhatkandi, where a gold medalist Dr Prabhat Sinha (Amol Parashar), who has a passion to do something for the unprivileged and moves to a remote village when he gets a job as a medical officer (MO). While he has every choice to live a comfortable life, Dr Prabhat accepts a government job in this remote village, a world that he's not familiar with at all.
The series begins with the death of an elderly man who passes away after receiving an injection from a local doctor, Chetak Kumar (Vinay Pathak). Whether the death was due to the injection or old age remains a mystery. The villagers are mourning the loss of Sipahi Chacha, and it's when Dr. Prabhat arrives in the village, only to find that the Primary Health Centre is a building that no one looks at.
<a class="gh-archive-page-post-title-link" href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/the-royals-review-netflix-ishaan-khatter-bhumi-pednekar-zeenat-aman-sakshi-tanwar-9051922" aria-label="The Royals review : Ditzy, lame characters in a crumbling palace">The Royals review: Ditzy, lame characters in a crumbling palace</a>
Right after entering the village, the first job of Dr Prabhat is not to look at the patients, but to remove the overgrown paddy fields at the PHC. With this, the struggle and the journey of Dr Prabhat begins. How Dr Prabhat earns his first patient in the village where he's not welcomed at all makes the rest of the story.&nbsp;
<h2>This story from the heartland lacks</h2>
Directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra and Arunabh Kumar, the show gives you a deja vu of Panchayat from the first frame. The only difference is that while Abhishek (Jitendra Kumar) had no interest in moving into Phullera, Dr Prabhat has moved into the village by choice. That was the first thought that struck me as I began watching. As you watch the series, there are plenty of things that will come to your mind. However, what sets this show apart is its focus on the troubling state of healthcare in rural India and the worrisome situation with challenges that persist despite the presence of government infrastructure.
In bits and pieces, the five-episode series ably explores issues like corruption, the lack of awareness and literacy in rural areas. Having said that, the show also blends emotions with the story. However, the overall impact doesn&rsquo;t quite match the standard set by other rural dramas. Some scenes feel overdone and out of sync with the show&rsquo;s tone, leaving you puzzled.

<h2>Where is the entertainment?</h2>
While the show delivers a social message, what about entertainment? It feels like the makers assumed that setting the story in a familiar setup that is already a hit would be enough, but that&rsquo;s not the case here. From the characters to the storyline, and even the dialogues and serious moments, none of it leaves a lasting impact.
Chetak Kumar (Vinay Pathak), who plays a doctor without a degree, aka &nbsp;"jholachap" doctor, &nbsp;a character that I found interesting first. &nbsp;However, surprisingly, he contributes little to the plot. His monologue felt unnecessary, and I couldn&rsquo;t understand why it even existed.
Every character in the show lacks depth. Parashar tried hard to make his character of Dr Prabhat Sinha feel, but things felt hollow at many times. &nbsp;The supporting characters, such as Anandeshwar Dwivedi as Phutani and Akash Makhija as the ward boy, try to bring some much-needed laughter to the show. And to some extent, they did.&nbsp;
The only things that I liked about the show were the realistic portrayal of village life, which was effectively brought to the screen. Garima Singh, who played Nurse Indu, also wins every frame she's in.
Rahul Pandey's directorial is a social commentary on rural healthcare, but it lacks in holding the audience's attention. Gram Panchayat is another addition to this growing rural sub-genre that you won't regret skipping.&nbsp;
<h2 class="gh-archive-page-post-title"><a class="gh-archive-page-post-title-link" href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/samay-raina-reveals-his-emotional-call-with-his-father-in-jammu-amid-rising-indo-pak-tensions-9051005" aria-label="'My father calls me one last time tonight from Jammu...' Parashar tried hard to make his character of Dr Prabhat Sinha feel, but things felt hollow at many times. The supporting characters, such as Anandeshwar Dwivedi as Phutani and Akash Makhija as the ward boy, try to bring some much-needed laughter to the show. And to some extent, they did. The only things that I liked about the show were the realistic portrayal of village life, which was effectively brought to the screen. Garima Singh, who played Nurse Indu, also wins every frame she's in. Rahul Pandey's directorial is a social commentary on rural healthcare, but it lacks in holding the audience's attention. Gram Panchayat is another addition to this growing rural sub-genre that you won't regret skipping. 'My father calls me one last time tonight from Jammu...' <h2>Mixed legacy of LOTR spinoffs</h2>
The recent attempts of studios to recreate the magic of the original The Lord of the Rings trilogy have been much like the themes of greed and corruption explored in the books. It started okay with Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Hobbit, a good idea on paper, but it was needlessly stretched into a trilogy.

Then we have Amazon with its Rings of Power series, which started interesting, quickly turned boring, and then became awful. Now we have Warner Bros' Gollum spinoff, which was initially delayed but is now scheduled to be released on December 17, 2027. How this one will turn out is anyone&rsquo;s guess.
<h2>What is The Hunt for Gollum about?</h2>
This is not to say that The Hunt for Gollum does not have potential. It focuses on Aragorn, who is charged by Gandalf the Grey to track down and capture Gollum, who possesses the One Ring. Andy Serkis will be reprising his breakthrough role as Gollum, and Ian McKellen is rumoured to return as Gandalf, but there is no confirmation if Viggo Mortensen will return as Aragorn.

The latest Production Weekly report has confirmed that The Batman 2, starring Robert Pattinson, is scheduled to start production in March of 2026. The movie is the sequel to 2022's critically and commercially successful The Batman, and fans finally got an update on when filming will start.

<h2>Matt Reeves listed as writer, not director</h2>
However, the report also revealed that Matt Reeves is not attached as the director of the project. Reeves wrote and directed The Batman and wrote the script for the sequel, and while he is named as the writer, no one is mentioned as the director.

The Batman 2 has gone through a few production delays, with one of the reasons being the launch of the DCU. DC Studio co-head James Gunn has talked about his enthusiasm for the project and Matt Reeves's script on numerous occasions, so his omission as the director could just be an oversight.

Considering that Matt Reeves also served as the executive producer for The Penguin mini-series, a spinoff of The Batman that focused on the Penguin. Colin Farrell reprised his role, and the show was met with universal acclaim and three Golden Globes. He is attached to several other planned spinoffs. It seems more than unlikely that Reeves will just walk away from the project.

<h2>BTS pic teases Shalla-Bal&rsquo;s origin</h2>
In the picture, we see Garner wearing a stunning blue and white dress standing near the shoreline. This is most likely a flashback sequence from the film that shows how Shalla-Bal became Galactus's herald.
Silver Surfer is the herald of the world-eater Galactus and is sent to find worlds for him to devour. In the comics, Shalla-Bal is the empress of the planet Zenn-La and willingly takes on the mantle of the Silver Surfer in exchange for Galactus sparing her world.

<h2>Julia Garner used surf training to prep</h2>
In a recent interview, Julia Garner spoke about how she prepared for the role: &ldquo;I have some friends that know how to surf, and they showed me some moves before I went out to London to just kind of get the body position of it all. And then I realised shortly after I was in London that I used some surf moves, but then I also used a lot of what I saw in the comic books."

On Thursday (May 8), the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in India has directed all OTT platforms to &lsquo;discontinue' content which have originated in Pakistan with immediate effect.&nbsp;

The advisory also stated that content which might incite violence or disturb public order must also be avoided.

Days after the horrific terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam claimed the lives of 26 people, India carried out a retaliatory strike against terror hideouts in Pakistan at midnight on May 7, named Operation Sindoor.
The Indian Army targeted nine terror locations across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Since the strike, tensions have escalated on both sides of the border. Owing to the current situation, the makers of Bollywood film Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, have decided to cancel the film&rsquo;s theatrical release.
Backed by Maddock Films, the movie will now release on May 16 directly on Prime Video. This decision has been well-received by fans and trade analyst Ramesh Bala, who called it a wise move.
<h2>A good move&nbsp;</h2>
Speaking exclusively with WION, Bala talked about the strategic move and said, ''I think because of the tensions, the entire North India and Northern states are on high alert. People are also focusing too much on the news, and their minds are not focused on entertainment. So, it's a good decision,'' he said.
''This movie is like a small or medium budget movie, not like a big blockbuster like Shah Rukh Khan's movie or something. So, it's good that it goes directly to the OTT because people, anyway, this Friday they will be preoccupied with all the news and, where the attack his happening and this and that. So, I think, in a way, it's good that it is going directly to OTT next Friday and skipping the theatrical release,'' Bala added.&nbsp;

In recent months, Bollywood has been witnessing a slump at the box office, with most Hindi-language movies failing to draw large audiences to cinemas. However, there have been exceptions &mdash; Vicky Kaushal&rsquo;s Chaava performed well, and currently, Ajay Devgn's Raid 2 is earning decent numbers.&nbsp;
<h2>Bollywood rough patch and OTT releases&nbsp;</h2>
When asked about the same, Bala said,'' Generally, Bollywood is going through a rough patch and hasn't seen too many hits. After Chaava, I think Raid 2 is doing well. But generally, small movies, medium budget movies, and even big star movies are not guaranteed successes. We have seen a lot of failures in the last few months.''
Explaining why filmmakers are preferring a direct OTT release, Bala added, ''If the makers are going to release it theatrically, even if they earn a few crores. Sometimes what happens is when you go for direct release, earlier if they were offered a price, say, Rs 25 crores for post-theatrical OTT, if it is direct OTT, they would have given Rs 40 crores or something like that. So, they would have gotten more money than how much share they would have made theatrically, They would have gotten a good deal because it is now direct OTT and there is no theatrical window.''

He added, 'In a way, it would have made more sense for the producers; it is very difficult to judge the audience's response, whether they will come or they will not. And, for this movie also, the booking has been soft. It is not like a big blockbuster or something. So, naturally, it will open slowly, and if the word of mouth was good, it would have done better. But right now, because of all the tensions, there is no guarantee that the audience will show up at the theatres.''
<h2>Bhool Chuk Maaf heads to OTT directly&nbsp;</h2>
Bankrolled by Maddock Films, Bhool Chuk Maaf revolves around a young man, Ranjan (Rao), who is deeply in love with his girlfriend, Titli (Gabbi). The couple is set to get married. But things change overnight when Ranjab gets stuck in a time loop.
In a statement issued on Thursday morning, Maddock Films said, &ldquo;In light of recent events and the heightened security drills across the nation, we at Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have decided to bring our family entertainer, Bool Chuk Maaf, directly to your homes on May 16- only on Prime Video, worldwide.

It Kylie Jenner and Timothee Chalamet two long years to make their romance red carpet official. In the last two years, everyone has seen them in various public outings together, even at awards shows, packing in some PDA.
