And after a two-month long courtroom saga, a jury of 12 New Yorkers on Wednesday found him guilty of two prostitution-related counts -- but acquitted him of more serious allegations of racketeering and sex trafficking.

Even during his federal criminal trial in New York, the descriptions of Sean Combs were frequently those of awe: one former assistant called him "a god among men." "Larger than life," said witnesses over and over -- his accusers included. And that he was, until it all came crashing down. The music and entertainment titan known for his legendary A-list "white parties" had multiple mansions, a private jet, a business empire and scores of accolades. Then in September 2024, he was arrested on sweeping charges including running a criminal ring that allowed him to commit harrowing sexual abuse. And after a two-month long courtroom saga, a jury of 12 New Yorkers on Wednesday found him guilty of two prostitution-related counts -- but acquitted him of more serious allegations of racketeering and sex trafficking. The outcome was not what prosecutors had hoped for -- a decisive conviction for grave crimes that could have kept him incarcerated for life. Nevertheless, even before the blockbuster proceedings began, Combs's reputation was in tatters. The 55-year-old still faces dozens of civil lawsuits in which he is accused of lurid abuse. And even his own team's defense came back to haunt him: the federal judge denied Combs bail as he awaits sentencing, reading back his attorneys' words in which they conceded again and again that he has a record of violence. - Rebrands upon rebrands - Combs, the founder of Bad Boy Records whose proteges included the late Notorious B.I.G. and Mary J. Blige, was known as a high-flying, smooth-talking kingpin who ushered hip-hop from the underground to bottle-service clubs. He was continuously rebranding -- his monikers include "Puff Daddy," "P Diddy" and, more recently, "Brother Love." Court proceedings revealed a much seedier side, casting him as a violent, domineering boss whose inner circle helped him live life with impunity. Even before his arrest, the mushrooming accusations and legal action left many of his businesses reeling. There were symbolic measures as well: the city of New York had rescinded the honorary key they had bestowed upon him. But as was clear outside the courthouse throughout the proceedings, he still has a loyal fan base, especially in the city where he made his name. - Party boy and hip-hop mogul - Born Sean John Combs on November 4, 1969, in Harlem, the artist entered the industry as an intern in 1990 at Uptown Records where he eventually became a talent director. He gained clout as a party planner, which would remain central to his brand. In 1991, he promoted a celebrity basketball game and concert at the City College of New York that ended in a stampede, leaving nine people dead. The event was over-capacity by the thousands and resulted in a string of lawsuits, with Combs blamed for hiring inadequate security. He was fired from Uptown, and founded his own label, Bad Boy Records. Thus began his quick ascent to the top of East Coast hip-hop. The Notorious B.I.G. became the genre's king following the release of his landmark debut album "Ready to Die" in 1994, up until his shock murder in 1997. Combs boasted a number of major signed acts and production collaborations with the likes of Blige, Usher, Lil' Kim, TLC, Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men. He was also a Grammy-winning rapper in his own right, debuting with the chart-topping single "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down" and his album "No Way Out." The smash hit single "I'll Be Missing You" was a tribute to Biggie. His other major tracks included "It's All About The Benjamins" and "Been Around the World." He built an image as a brash hustler with unapologetic swagger, a major producer who also ventured into Hollywood, reality television and fashion. He was known as a ladies' man -- he had a high-profile relationship with Jennifer Lopez. - 'Next chapters' - As recently as 2023, Combs was still on top of the world -- releasing a new album and taking a victory lap as he accepted lifetime honors including a "global icon" award from MTV. But his star plummeted rapidly in November of that year, when his former partner of 11 years, Casandra Ventura, filed a civil suit with a litany of allegations including a 2018 rape. Combs settled the suit almost immediately, but months later, it became clear that federal investigators were trailing him. His mansions were raided and many possessions seized. Then came his arrest and, nearly eight months later, his high-stakes federal trial. Combs's defense conceded that he committed brutal violence. But they insisted that those instances did not amount to the extensive charges he faced -- and won. Combs routinely brought self-help books or Bible passages with him to the courtroom, and his lawyers argue he's an evolving man. He has six adult children, and a two-year-old named Love Sean Combs. "He's been given his life back," his attorney Marc Agnifilo said Wednesday. "He's going to have next chapters of his life." https://www.wionews.com/videos/music-mogul-sean-diddy-combs-acquitted-serious-sex-trafficking-and-racketeering-charges-1751472938771/embed

<p>And after a two-month long courtroom saga, a jury of 12 New Yorkers on Wednesday found him guilty of two prostitution-related counts -- but acquitted him of more serious allegations of racketeering and sex trafficking.</p>

Sean Combs: music pioneer, entrepreneur -- and convicted felon

<p>Sean "Diddy" Combs' will remain behind bars for now, a judge ruled on Wednesday, after the music mogul was cleared of sex trafficking and racketeering charges that could have put him behind bars for life but found guilty of lesser prostitution-related offenses. In rejecting the defense's request for bail, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian said prosecutors had presented ample evidence at Combs' trial that he had committed violent acts and should remain in jail until his sentencing on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>"It is impossible for the defendant to demonstrate by clear and convincing evidence that he poses no danger," Subramanian said during a hearing in Manhattan federal court hours after the verdict.</p><p><br>The seven-week trial focused on allegations that Combs forced two of his former girlfriends to partake in drug-fueled, days-long sexual performances sometimes known as "Freak Offs" with male sex workers in hotel rooms while Combs watched, masturbated and occasionally filmed.</p><p><br>Both women - the rhythm and blues singer Casandra "Cassie" Ventura, and a woman known in court by the pseudonym Jane - testified that he beat them and threatened to withhold financial support or leak sexually explicit images of them.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>As Subramanian denied bail, Combs stared straight ahead and one of his family members in the courtroom gallery hung their head.</p><p><br>It was a far cry from the jubilant reaction after the verdict.</p><p><br>“I’m gonna be home soon,” Combs said, prompting applause and cheers from his family and supporters. “Thank you, I love you.”</p><p><br>The 12-member jury unanimously acquitted Combs of racketeering conspiracy and two counts of sex trafficking Ventura and Jane. Sean "Diddy" Combs' will remain behind bars for now, a judge ruled on Wednesday, after the music mogul was cleared of sex trafficking and racketeering charges that could have put him behind bars for life but found guilty of lesser prostitution-related offenses.

Sean "Diddy" Combs' will remain behind bars for now, a judge ruled on Wednesday, after the music mogul was cleared of sex trafficking and racketeering charges that could have put him behind bars for life but found guilty of lesser prostitution-related offenses. In rejecting the defense's request for bail, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian said prosecutors had presented ample evidence at Combs' trial that he had committed violent acts and should remain in jail until his sentencing on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. "It is impossible for the defendant to demonstrate by clear and convincing evidence that he poses no danger," Subramanian said during a hearing in Manhattan federal court hours after the verdict. The seven-week trial focused on allegations that Combs forced two of his former girlfriends to partake in drug-fueled, days-long sexual performances sometimes known as "Freak Offs" with male sex workers in hotel rooms while Combs watched, masturbated and occasionally filmed. Both women - the rhythm and blues singer Casandra "Cassie" Ventura, and a woman known in court by the pseudonym Jane - testified that he beat them and threatened to withhold financial support or leak sexually explicit images of them. As Subramanian denied bail, Combs stared straight ahead and one of his family members in the courtroom gallery hung their head. It was a far cry from the jubilant reaction after the verdict. “I’m gonna be home soon,” Combs said, prompting applause and cheers from his family and supporters. “Thank you, I love you.” The 12-member jury unanimously acquitted Combs of racketeering conspiracy and two counts of sex trafficking Ventura and Jane. The Bad Boy Records founder could have faced life in prison if convicted on those counts. Combs, once famed for hosting lavish parties for the cultural elite in luxurious locales like the Hamptons and Saint-Tropez, had pleaded not guilty to all five counts. The verdict was overall a win for Combs, a former billionaire known for elevating hip-hop in American culture. Under federal law, Combs faces up to 10 years in prison on each of the two prostitution counts. But prosecutors acknowledged in a court filing that federal sentencing guidelines appeared to recommend a sentence of at most 5-1/4 years total, well below the statutory maximum. Combs' lawyers argued that two years would be the outer limit. The judge suggested sentencing Combs on October 3, but will consider a defense request for an earlier date. Prosecutors argued Combs should remain in jail because he remained a danger, pointing to Jane's trial testimony that he assaulted her in June 2024 while aware he was under investigation. "He's an extremely violent man with an extraordinarily dangerous temper who has shown no remorse," prosecutor Maurene Comey said in court. Acquittal on three charges The jury's acquittal on the most serious charges signalled that the prosecution failed to draw a direct line between Combs' abuse of Ventura and Jane and their participation in the sexual performances. The defence acknowledged that Combs engaged in domestic violence, but argued that Ventura and Jane were strong, independent women who consensually took part in the sexual performances because they wanted to please Combs. Sarah Krissoff, a former federal prosecutor in Manhattan, said the jury may have viewed Combs' conduct as evidence of toxic romantic relationships, but not sex trafficking. In a statement after the verdict, Manhattan U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton and Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent in Charge Ricky Patel said sex crimes were "all too present" across society and that Americans wanted it to stop. Combs still faces dozens of civil lawsuits accusing him of abuse. Ventura sued him in November 2023 for sex trafficking, and they settled a day later for $20 million. Combs, once feted for turning artists like Notorious B.I.G. and Usher into stars, has denied all wrongdoing. After the verdict, Ventura's lawyer Douglas Wigdor said in a statement that she had "paved the way" for Combs' conviction on the prostitution counts.

Kanye West -- whose wife Bianca Censori is Australian -- has been coming to Australia for some time because he has family in the country, Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said.

Kanye West is courting new controversy. Australia has cancelled the US rapper's visa over his song glorifying Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, the government said Wednesday. The 48-year-old musician, who has legally changed his name to Ye, released a track titled "Heil Hitler" on May 8, marking the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II. West -- whose wife Bianca Censori is Australian -- has been coming to Australia for some time because he has family in the country, Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke revealed to the press. “He's made a lot of offensive comments. But my officials looked at it again once he released the 'Heil Hitler' song and he no longer has a valid visa in Australia,” Burke said. Burke said the rapper's cancelled visa was not intended for holding concerts. "It was a lower level, and the officials still looked at the law and said: You're going to have a song and promote that sort of Nazism -- we don't need that in Australia," he told public broadcaster ABC. Asked if it was sustainable to bar such a popular figure, the minister said: "I think what's not sustainable is to import hatred." But he said immigration officials reassess each visa application. - 'Importing bigotry' - Australian citizens have freedom of speech, Burke added. "But we have enough problems in this country already without deliberately importing bigotry." Kanye West's "Heil Hitler" song stirred public opposition last week in Slovakia when it was announced he would be playing a concert there in July. More than 3,000 people signed a petition against West's performance in the Slovak capital. The rapper -- a vocal supporter of US President Donald Trump -- is "repeatedly and openly adhering to symbols and ideology connected with the darkest period of modern global history", two groups behind the petition said. "Kanye West's concert in our city and our country is an insult to historic memory, a glorification of wartime violence and debasement of all victims of the Nazi regime," the petition read. In the "Heil Hitler" clip, dozens of Black men -- wearing animal pelts and masks, and standing in a block formation -- chant the title of the song, as West raps about being misunderstood and about his custody battle with ex-wife Kim Kardashian. The song ends with an extract of a speech by the Nazi dictator. West has also publicly endorsed fellow rapper and music mogul Sean Combs, who has been tried in New York for alleged sex trafficking and racketeering. The jury in that case is considering its verdict. djw/rsc

The 12-member jury found Combs guilty of only two of the 5 counts, which could lead him to serve jail time of 20 years. The jury deliberated reportedly found it difficult to decide on the racketeering charge, the most serious of the five, which carries a possible life prison term.

The jury declared music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs not guilty on charges of racketeering on Wednesday after a seven-week-long trial. Diddy was arrested in September 2024 over charges of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transportation to engage in prostitution. The music mogul had pleaded not guilty to all the charges. The 12-member jury found Combs guilty of only two of the 5 counts, which could lead him to serve jail time of 20 years. The jury deliberated over its decision for over 13 hours, spanning over two days, and reportedly found it difficult to decide on the racketeering charge, the most serious of the five, which carries a possible life prison term. So, what is the racketeering charge, which is more commonly used against mobsters? What is racketeering? Racketeering conspiracy, or directing an illegal enterprise under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (Rico), is the formal name for the charge. The law in the US was created to tackle mob bosses but it has since then been used in other trials, including for sex trafficking – a charge that was common in both Diddy's well as R&B singer R Kelly’s cases. The charge is also sometimes used against a group of defendants. US President Donald Trump and his allies were accused of conspiring to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia - charges that Trump denied. Why was it difficult to press charges of racketeering against Diddy To convict the music mogul of the charge, prosecutors had to prove he used his network of associates to run a criminal enterprise and commit crimes including sex trafficking, kidnapping, drugging, and obstruction of justice. The network would typically include his employees, who prosecutors say played a part in setting up the "freak-offs". During the seven-week-long trial, the Prosecution’s key witnesses, including two of Diddy’s former girlfriends, stated they were coerced to have sex with male escorts while Diddy watched. Diddy’s legal team claimed the encounters were all consensual. In a raid on his Los Angeles mansion, police found supplies that they said were intended for use in freak-offs, including drugs and more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil. The defence had undermined the racketeering allegations by asking witnesses whether Combs' employees ever witnessed the freak-offs. The jury was divided on the fact that Cassie Ventura, the star witness for the prosecution, claimed she did not think they were present, even though she was forced to have sex with other men. Defence lawyers argue that the case cannot be considered to be racketeering if members if Combs’ staff were not knowingly complicit. As the verdict was read out on Wednesday , Combs, 55, smiled and looked relieved. He shook hands with one of his lawyers and said "thank you" to members of the eight-man, four-woman jury as they left the courtroom. Judge Arun Subramanian also thanked the jury for their service before dismissing them. "You listened, you worked together, you were here every day, rain or shine," he said. “You did so with no reward, other than the reward that comes from answering the call of public service.”

UK’s Princess Catherine has opened up about her ‘rollercoaster’ cancer recovery for the first time since being diagnosed of the disease in March 2024. While visiting a cancer support centre at Colchester Hospital in eastern England, the Princess spoke of going through ‘hard times’ in battle with cancer. Kate, as she is widely called, is married to heir-to-the-throne Prince William. After undergoing a course of "preventative chemotherapy", in January she revealed she was in remission and has been gradually returning to public royal duties. At the hospital, the 43-year-old princess told patients, volunteers and staff there that life following cancer treatment was not plain sailing. "It's a rollercoaster, it's not one smooth plain, which you expect it to be," she said. "But the reality is it's not, you go through hard times and to have a place like this, to have the support network -- whether it's through creativity and singing or gardening, whatever it might be -- is so valuable and it's great that this community has it." Kate added that patients recovering from cancer "put on a sort of brave face" and tend to show "stoicism" but noted that "the phase afterwards is really, you know, difficult". "You're not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you're not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to." Kate, who has three young children with William, last month pulled out of attending the Royal Ascot race meeting as she continues her recovery and gradual resumption of duties. Her father-in-law King Charles III, 76, announced in early 2024 that he too had been diagnosed with an unspecified cancer. He has since returned to public duties but is still undergoing treatment.

The jury found Combs guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution after a high-profile seven-week trial.

After seven-weeks of rigorous trial, controversial music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been found not guilty of charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. He has, however, been convicted of a US federal prostitution felony on Wednesday. The jury found Combs guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution after a high-profile seven-week trial. Combs faces a maximum of 20 years in prison for transportation to engage in prostitution related to Casandra Ventura and ‘Jane’. The Judge will later decide whether Combs, who is at present in a New York jail, will be released on bail. As the vedict was read out, Combs, 55, smiled and looked relieved. He shook hands with one of his lawyers and said "thank you" to members of the eight-man four-woman jury as they left the courtroom. Judge Arun Subramanian also thanked the jury for their service before dismissing them. "You listened, you worked together, you were here every day, rain or shine," he said. “You did so with no reward, other than the reward that comes from answering the call of public service.” Seven weeks of trial, 34 witnesses On Wednesday, a jury of 12 New Yorkers found Combs guilty of the Mann Act of transporting his former girlfriends, Cassie Ventura and a woman who went by the name Jane, in the courtroom, but he was not found guilty of running a criminal enterprise and of sex trafficking. The federal court in Manhattan heard 34 witnesses about the case over a seven-week-long trial. The verdict, which saw the defense winning three acquittals, marked the end of a trial that had captured global attention and turned the court in Manhattan into a media circus. Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was arrested in September 2024 over charges of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transportation to engage in prostitution. The music mogul had pleaded not guilty to all the charges. Jury delivers mixed verdict The 12-member jury gave a mixed verdict on the Diddy trial, declaring him guilty of only two of the 5 counts he was accused. The verdict was announced after 13 hours of deliberation over three days. The jury found Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs: -NOT GUILTY of racketeering conspiracy -NOT GUILTY of the sex trafficking of ex-girlfriend Casandra Ventura - NOT GUILTY of the sex trafficking of ‘Jane’ - GUILTY of the transportation to engage in prostitution, related to Casandra Ventura - GUILTY of the transportation to engage in prostitution related to ‘Jane’ The verdict came at the end of a trial in which prosecutors had accused Combs of being the boss of a decades-long criminal group who directed loyal employees and bodyguards to commit myriad offenses at his behest. The alleged crimes included forced labor, drug distribution, kidnapping, bribery, witness tampering and obstruction and arson. To find Combs guilty of racketeering, jurors needed to find the existence of a criminal enterprise and that the organization committed at least two of the offenses. Jurors announced a partial verdict late Tuesday and said they were deadlocked on the racketeering charge but Judge Arun Subramanian instructed them to keep working. Sex was consensual Combs was charged with sex trafficking two women: singer Casandra Ventura and a woman who testified under the pseudonym Jane. Both were in long-term relationships with Diddy and they each testified about abuse, threats and coercive sex in wrenching detail. They both said they felt obligated to participate in Combs-directed sexual marathons with hired men. Combs's lawyers insisted the sex was consensual. They conceded domestic violence was a feature of his relationships -- one harrowing example of him beating and dragging Ventura was caught on security footage that has been widely publicized. Yet while disturbing, that did not amount to sex trafficking, the defense said. But prosecutors in their final argument tore into Combs's team, who they said had "contorted the facts endlessly." "In his mind he was untouchable," prosecutor Maurene Comey told the court. "The defendant never thought that the women he abused would have the courage to speak out loud what he had done to them."

<p>Ever wonder what it takes to join a colossal franchise like <i>Jurassic World</i>? Even for Hollywood's A-listers, landing a part in the highly anticipated<i> Jurassic World: Rebirth</i> is a thrilling journey filled with fan-girl moments, intense challenges, and a deep appreciation for cinematic legacy. WION caught up with stars Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, who opened up about their paths to becoming part of this iconic universe, revealing everything from unexpected meetings with Steven Spielberg to the unique demands of bringing new life to a beloved story.</p><h2>Here are the excerpts: &nbsp;</h2><p><strong>Scarlett, if you can briefly tell us about your meeting with Steven Spielberg before you got your part in Jurassic World: Rebirth?</strong><br>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Scarlett Johansson:</strong> I actually had a general meeting with Steven. I have never had a general meeting with him before. In my mind, I was thinking, perhaps he has heard, he knows that I am a huge Jurassic World fan, so perhaps the conversation will lead towards that. I wanted to let the conversation have its organic moment, so I talked for a couple of hours, and I was thinking, if I leave this meeting, and I don't talk about Jurassic, then maybe I will just go jump in the Hudson River. Then, after two hours, he was like, 'Wait! Aren't we supposed to be talking about Jurassic?' And I saw that, as my window, to completely fan girl out, which was good, because I had already established myself as a semi-normal person. So, the fact that I could just let loose, and it worked in my favour.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Jonathan Bailey: </strong>It worked in all our favour, because you are brilliant.<br>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Scarlett: </strong>Thank you, it's good to share your enthusiasm.<br>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>So, even for an A-lister, landing your dream job in Jurassic World is a competitive process?</strong></p><p><br><strong>Scarlett Johansson: </strong>Yeah, it is a hard role to nab. It's because I think, you know, it's rare to have the opportunity to lead something this size, and of course, this is a very valuable asset for the studio. I feel very fortunate to be part of it; it's not something that I take for granted at all.<br>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Mr Ali, how much of the shoot became a personal adventure for you?</strong><br>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Mahershala Ali:</strong>&nbsp;Every job is a personal journey for me. I am just excited to be part of it, and I'm even more excited since Jonathan and Scarlett are part of this movie.</p>

Mahershala Ali in Jurassic World: Rebirth

<p><strong>Mr Ali, so what has been more challenging for you, a character-driven role, or an action-driven role?</strong><br>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Mahershala</strong>: What's more challenging? They are just different. It's hard to compare. I want to do great work with every opportunity I am given. When I look at my past roles, I do not necessarily look at what was harder than any other part. As an actor, I just want to come to life.<br>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Scarlett Johansson: </strong>And I think both those dramatic roles and roles that are more action-based require a level of physicality, and they also require emotional stamina. So, I agree with Marshall, it's not necessarily one that's harder than the other. If you are doing your job right, then you probably wake up the next day, you will find yourself thinking about the work you did, and how to prepare further for the next day. That way, you are completely in your character.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Jonathan, what is it like to be part of a legacy as big as Jurassic World?</strong><br>&nbsp;</p><p>It's unbelievable. You see, this is one of Hollywood's long-standing franchises with such a massive following. Everyone has a relationship with the Jurassic franchise. I even remember watching it the first time, and now to be able to step into this world. It is a phenomenal experience. Deep within, you just hope that you are able to make everyone proud. It is wild to see scenes in the film you weren't present for on set, because it takes me straight back to watching the first part draft, yeah, it is amazing.<br>&nbsp;</p><p>From Scarlett Johansson's candid "fan-girl" moment with Steven Spielberg to two time Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali's pursuit of challenging roles and Jonathan Bailey's awe at joining a global phenomenon, it's clear that<i> Jurassic World: Rebirth</i> is more than just a film for its stars—it's a deeply personal and professional milestone. Their shared enthusiasm and dedication underscore the immense appeal and enduring legacy of the Jurassic franchise, promising an unforgettable cinematic experience for fans worldwide.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>https://www.wionews.com/videos/scarlett-johansson-on-joining-jurassic-world-rebirth-more-wion-exclusive-1751086800085/embed</p>
