EBU members were initially scheduled to vote this month on whether Israel would be permitted to participate in Vienna.

The Eurovision Song Contest's organisers said Friday they were changing voting rules to strengthen "trust and transparency", following controversy sparked in recent years over massive public support for Israeli candidates. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) announced that it was implementing a range of changes to the voting rules for the glitzy competition ahead of its next edition in Vienna next May, including halving the number of votes each member of the public can cast. It said it would also set stronger limits on promotion to curb third-party influence, including government-backed campaigns, and boost efforts to "detect and block coordinated or fraudulent voting activity". The announcement came after several countries, including Spain, Ireland and the Netherlands, threatened to pull out of the 2026 contest if Israel is permitted to take part again. Others also said they were considering a boycott over the situation in Gaza. In justifying its decision, Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS highlighted a "serious violation of press freedom" by Israel in Gaza. And it accused Israel of "proven interference... during the last edition of the Song Contest", in which it came second, by lobbying the public overseas to vote for it. - 'Must not be instrumentalised' - "We've listened and we've acted," the EBU's Eurovision Song Contest director Martin Green said in a statement. "We are taking clear and decisive steps to ensure the contest remains a celebration of music and unity. The Contest should remain a neutral space and must not be instrumentalised." Among the announced changes was the dramatic reduction in the number of votes each member of the public can lodge. Acts competing in the Eurovision annual finals receive two sets of points with equal weight from each of the competing nations: one by a professional jury and one given by viewers voting via telephone, text message or online. Up to 20 votes have until now been permitted from a single payment method, but going forward that number will be cut to 10, EBU said. The move comes after the past two editions saw the Israeli acts receive little backing from professional juries but a surge of support from the public vote. That catapulted Eden Golan from the depths of the jury rankings to fifth place in Malmo, Sweden in 2024, and Yuval Raphael all the way to second place in Basel, Switzerland, this year. - Vote on Israel participation? - EBU members were initially scheduled to vote this month on whether Israel would be permitted to participate in Vienna. But after a fragile truce took hold in Gaza, the organisation said they would instead consider the issue during its general assembly in December. EBU said Friday that its members would first consider whether its new measures might remove the need for such a vote. "We very much hope the package of measures will assure Members that we have taken strong action to protect the neutrality and impartiality of the Song Contest going forward," spokesman Dave Goodman told AFP. "Only if they consider the new measures are not sufficient will there be a vote on participation." EBU said that "the full list of participating broadcasters in next year's competition will then be revealed before Christmas". If Israel is excluded, it would not be the first time a broadcaster is barred. Russia was excluded following its invasion of Ukraine in 2022, while Belarus had been excluded a year earlier after the contested re-election of President Alexander Lukashenko. Politics is officially barred from the event, but participants are frequently accused of trying to sneak political messages into their acts. EBU said Friday it would also strengthen efforts "to prevent any misuse of the Contest for example through song lyrics or staging".

But the unexpected moment arrived when the host said humble words for the actor and hailed the superstar. “It feels amazing to be sharing the stage with such a big global icon. We were just discussing earlier how it's been so many years since we've been seeing you on screen. Oh, what a moment this is guys. A big round of applause for the superstar himself over here,” the host said.

Reacting to the host's introduction, Hrithik took a sly dig at himself and said,“That's very kind of you... You know, my film just bombed at the box office, so it feels very good to get all the love, Thank you.” The video from the event has gone viral.

At the event, Hrithik, the Greek God of Bollywood, looked dapper in a black tuxedo, and his sharp hairstyle added more drama to his look. During the event, he also did a hook step of his iconic song, Ek Pal Ka Jeena from his 2000 debut 'Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai'.

More about War 2 and how much it collected at the box office?

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the movie marked the Hindi debut of Jr NTR, who enjoys a huge fan base in South India. Despite being one of the most-awaited films, it earned mixed reviews upon its release and made around Rs 236 crore in India. However, the movie's budget was Rs 400 crore, and the collection didn't cross the budget, which is why it was termed a flop.

Directed by Ayan Mukerji, the movie, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani, is the sixth instalment in the YRF Spy Universe and a sequel to the 2019 film War.

Hrithik Roshan has seen his fair share of ups and downs in the industry. While some of his films became superhits, others badly tanked at the box office. And his last film, War 2 was one of the most anticipated films that failed to rake in moolah at the box office. Roshan's War 2 was one of the highly anticipated movies of the year, and despite the buzz and the first film being a superhit, it wasn’t able to surpass the budget in which the actioner was made. Hrithik Roshan addresses War 2 failure Released on Aug 14, the movie had Roshan reprising his role of Kabir. Along with him, it starred Kiara Advani and Jr NTR. Months after the release, Roshan finally addressed the failure of the movie, and it was one of the most unexpected things that no one saw coming. The actor recently attended a launch event in Dubai at the Coca-Cola Arena, where he had the audience roaring for him, for his looks and his dance too.

Mexican artist Frida Kahlo's self portrait has sold for a record breaking $54.7 mn, making it the highest amount billed for the work of a female artist. Kahlo's artwork dates back to 1940.

A self-portrait by celebrated Mexican artist Frida Kahlo sold for $54.66 million in New York on Thursday, setting a record for the price of a painting by a woman, the auction house Sotheby's said. The sale of Kahlo's 1940 artwork, titled "El sueno (La cama)" -- which translates to "The dream (The bed)" -- broke the previous record set by American artist Georgia O'Keeffe, whose 1932 painting "Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1" sold for $44.4 million in 2014. Kahlo's painting is "the most valuable work by a woman artist ever sold at auction," Sotheby's said in a post on social media platform X. The artwork depicts Kahlo sleeping in a bed that appears to float through the sky, beneath a skeleton with its legs wrapped in sticks of dynamite. The work was painted during a pivotal decade in Kahlo's career, marked by her turbulent relationship with Mexican painter Diego Rivera, the auction house said on X. The painting went on the auction block with an estimated price range of $40 million to $60 million. The buyer's name was not disclosed. The work is a "very personal" painting, in which Kahlo "merges folkloric motifs from Mexican culture with European surrealism," Anna Di Stasi, the head of Latin American art at Sotheby's, told AFP. The Mexican artist, who died in 1954 at the age of 47, "did not completely agree" with her work being associated with the surrealist movement, Di Stasi said. However, "given this magnificent iconography, it seems entirely appropriate to include it," she said. Kahlo struggled with fragile health throughout her life due to childhood illness, polio and a serious bus accident in 1925, and pain and death were central to her work. The skeleton depicted in the painting echoed the papier-mache version that hung above Kahlo's bed, according to Sotheby's. -Women under-represented- None of the 162 pieces of art that had previously sold for more than $50 million were by women, according to an AFP tally. Less than one percent of the 468 works sold for more than $30 million are by women artists. The record-setting sale of Kahlo's self-portrait came two nights after Sotheby's made another record sale, with a painting by Austrian artist Gustav Klimt fetching $236.4 million -- the second-most expensive artwork ever sold at auction. Klimt's "Portrait of Elisabeth Lederer," which he painted between 1914 and 1916, depicts the daughter of his main patron standing in front of a blue tapestry. The most expensive painting ever sold at auction remains the "Salvator Mundi," (Savior of the World), a Renaissance work attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, which was bought for $450 million in 2017. Female artists whose works have fetched the highest sale prices are primarily prominent 20th century figures. The third-highest sale price, after O'Keeffe's White Flower No. 1," was for a huge spider sculpture by French visual artist Louise Bourgeois, which sold for $32.5 million in 2023. Kahlo's self-portrait "Diego y yo" ("Diego and I", 1949) fetched $34.9 million in 2021 and "Portrait of Marjorie Ferry" (1932) by the Polish painter Tamara de Lempicka was sold for $21.2 million in 2020.

Things are personal this time in The Family Man 3. Everyone is fighting or seeking revenge for a personal loss, and everyone has a clear agenda. Manoj Bajpayee returns to Prime Video’s popular web series The Family Man as the smart, quick on heels and very middle-class Intelligence officer Srikant Tiwari. In the third season, Srikant is finally forced to spend time with his family- and protect them at all costs- while solving an intricate geo-political case and even clearing his name from a crime that he never committed. Naturally, the stakes are high, and The Family Man 3 weaves a very elaborate plot involving some old characters and lots of references from previous seasons.

Created by Raj & DK with Suman Kumar and Tusshar Seyth joining as directors in this season, the web series takes Srikanth Tiwari on a mission to Nagaland, but things go awry soon after, putting Srikant’s life at stake.

What is The Family Man Season 3 about?

When the NIA chief and Nagaland’s most prominent political figure are killed as their convoy is ambushed, a bleeding Srikant only manages to get a glimpse of the killer, Rukma (Jaideep Ahlawat). Days later, Srikant finds himself in a tricky spot as TASC leadership gets changed, and he is named as the prime suspect in the two murders along with a local separatist group. Srikant is now on the run, along with wife Suchi (Priya Mani), kids and trusted aide JK (Sharib Hashmi). Meanwhile, Rukma, one of the most dreaded drug dealers in the north east, comes in contact with Meera, a stiff-upper lip Brit Indian, working in close association with Dawaraknath (Jugal Hansraj), the Indian billionaire, who, on behalf of The Collective, wants to crack a major deal with the Indian government. Meera and Rukma are similar- even though they come from diverse backgrounds, both are cold, ruthless and sharp.

It is on Meera’s instructions that Rukma carries out the operation and kills the NIA chief. It's when he loses the love of his life, Rukma's mission becomes more than just earning money.

What works

Manoj Bajpayee retains his unassuming wit as Srikant Tiwari, a man steeped in middle-class values, trying hard to fit in with his teenage kids even as he navigates a complicated marriage with Suchi. Bajpayee brings his charm, wit and maturity to play Srikant Tiwari- a family guy who is also good at his job but someone who is now bogged down by the challenges he faces both professionally and personally. His scenes with Hashmi continue to remain the most special. The two actors share great camaraderie on screen, and their bond feels organic.

Jaideep Ahlawat plays a cold drug lord who softens due to circumstances. Some of the most poignant scenes of The Family Man have Ahlawat sharing tender moments of joy with a little boy called Bobby McFerrin. Circumstances force the two to be together, and they develop an unusual bond.

The other actor who stands out is Nimrat Kaur. She has proved her mettle in numerous films and series before, and this one is no different. You know she is cold-hearted and menacing, but Kaur makes you curious about her character, Meera.

After Pataal Lok 2 (which also starred Jaideep Ahlawat ), Prime Video returns to the Northeast with The Family Man 3 this year. Both shows ably highlight the volatile environment and how the government in New Delhi are not fully able to connect with the locals.

What does not work

Unlike its previous two seasons, The Family Man Season 3 takes time to grow on you. The pace picks up only in the third episode, as does the series' underlying sly humour, almost reminding you why you loved the show so much for all these years. Srikanth’s middle-class sentiments also take a back burner as he has more on his plate than he can handle.

A lot is happening in the show, too many personal vendettas being played out, too many people out there to deceive, and it is exhausting to keep track of which treaty the government in trying to push and who is working for whom. It is all convoluted.

Final Verdict

The Family Man Season 3 impresses only in parts. This time, every character has a personal vengeance against the other. Srikant is more emotional than quick-witted. So is his friend JK, who fears dying alone. The show lacks the thrills but strikes a chord with its emotional quotient. Watch out for an interesting cameo and a crossover from the Raj & DK thriller universe.

The second season of The Family Man came out in 2021, and since then, loyal fans of the franchise have been eagerly waiting for the third season. Perhaps the expectations from the third season were huge, and sadly, this one didn't match up. It is not that the show is bad, it is well executed and boasts of great performances from its actors, but the elements that made the first two seasons a hit are strangely less, making it more emotional and less thrilling.

The Family Man 3 is now streaming on Prime Video.

It has been a long wait, but the third season of The Family Man is finally here. Manoj Bajpayee returns as Srikant Tiwari, who is now fighting one of his toughest opponents, Rukma. For both men, the fight is for vengeance, and thus personal.

What works Manoj Bajpayee retains his unassuming wit as Srikant Tiwari, a man steeped in middle-class values, trying hard to fit in with his teenage kids even as he navigates a complicated marriage with Suchi. What does not work Unlike its previous two seasons, The Family Man Season 3 takes time to grow on you.

It has been a long wait, but the third season of The Family Man is finally here. Manoj Bajpayee returns as Srikant Tiwari, who is now fighting one of his toughest opponents, Rukma. For both men, the fight is for vengeance, and thus personal.

The Family Man 3 review: Manoj Bajpayee returns in an emotionally heavy thriller
