In O Romeo, Vishal Bharadwaj again presents Shahid Kapoor in one of his most charming avatars, and together, the duo delivers a captivating, engrossing, and poetic musical set on a template of brutality and heinous gangster drama, which has now become quite repetitive in Hindi cinema.

Directed by Bharadwaj, the film transports the audience to 1990s Bombay. Known for experimenting with storytelling, characters, and performances, Bharadwaj does not attempt anything new that makes this movie unique, unlike his past outings, which were always different from what we generally saw. Instead, he delivers an interesting and engaging thriller, which is held by music, performances, and ultimately, how it has been shot, which is exactly what we expect when Bharadwaj is in the director’s chair.

Vishal Bharadwaj and Shahid Kapoor’s collaboration is an enthralling gangster drama that is an absolute mass entertainer, despite its predictable storyline. Is this volatile film of a gangster turned Romeo worth taking? Let’s find out.

O' Romeo: What is the movie about?

The film transports the audience to the world of 1990s Bombay and revolves around gangster Ustra(Shahid Kapoor). One day, a woman named Afsha (Tripti Dimri) approaches him, seeking revenge for her husband’s (Vikrant Massey) death at the hands of Jamal (Avinash Tiwary), a dreaded gangster who was once Ustra’s partner. They share a troubled past. Jamal is now in Spain and is running things from there, while Ustra remains in Bombay and works under the guidance of an officer named Ismail Khan (Nana Patekar).

Seeking revenge for her husband’s death, Ashraf joins Ustra’s gang, learns how to shoot a gun, and gradually crosses the line that once restrained him. As this all is happening, Romeo develops feelings for Afsha, and this is where the Romeo side of Ustra comes off and takes the highlight. How they eventually take revenge on Jamal forms the rest of the plot.

Bharadwaj's O' Romeo is an entertaining yet predictable ride.

When Bharadwaj is in the director’s chair, the vision he brings to the screen is compelling. He draws out the best from his actors with a sense of realism that makes the audience empathise with the characters. The emotional depth, combined with a strong screenplay and music that lingers long after you step out of the theatre.

Unlike his past exceptional works, this movie settles for the charm of action, heroism, and performance that comes with the over-dramatisations. The music blends seamlessly with the story, so instead of interrupting it, the songs add energy even to the more juvenile scenes.

The story does not excite you, nor does it surprise you, except for a few twists. What impresses, however, is the way it has been presented. This film is not like Bharadwaj’s usual cinema, which is layered with in-depth emotional vulnerability, tragedy, and inner conflict. Instead, it is a casual entry into the world of mass entertainers. It is quite bloody, we see a lot of blood, something that has become common in every second movie nowadays, where brutal killings and excessive splashes of blood are all over the screen. One scene of Jalal (Avinash) has his face covered with blood. It quickly reminds you of the post-credits scene of Ranbir Kapoor's Animal. And to what, which we can call a new trend, Bharadwaj does not forget to add that element.

Still of Tripti Dimri

What works and what doesn’t?

Based on the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai by Hussain Zaidi, the film arrives with the image of a passionate love story, but that is not entirely the case. The love story between Romeo and Afsha exists, but it remains in the backseat. It unfolds alongside the larger gangster conflicts in this revenge thriller and does not take centre stage. More than the romantic elements, it is the humour that tones down the seriousness of the bloody violence and killings.

Stacked with prolific actors, the movie never bores you despite its repetitive action-driven plot, something audiences are seeing in almost every second film these days. The film is lengthy, and the first half feels slightly slow, taking time to settle and to make the audience understand how the events are unfolding. In the second half, however, the narrative is more understandable. In some action sequences, especially in the climax, the camerawork is impressive and delivers a “wow” factor.

Still of Shahid Kapoor

The narrative of this action-packed film is simple and linear. It pleases the audience with its entertainment value and strong performances. Shahid is at his best in the raw action-hero avatar, and it is clear how much he has enjoyed playing this role. Tripti’s performance reminds you of her Qala and Bulbbul days. With that intensity in her wide eyes and raw expressions, she wins every frame. Avinash Tiwary and Nana Patekar also gained attention with their performances.

Apart from the A-listers, Rahul Deshpande as Inspector Pathare stands out and delivers one of the finest performances in the film.

Vishal Bharadwaj’s film is a purely commercial entertainer that wins because of its performances and background score, especially when ‘’Hum To Tere Hi Liye'' is being played again and again.

Directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, the movie is the blood-soaked saga of guns and gangsters. Stacked with prolific actors, the movie wins majorly for it's peformance.

Ranveer Singh starrer Dhurandhar may have been banned in theatres in Pakistan but the film's pirated versions are available openly in markets in Karachi. Despite its anti-Pakistan stance, the film has found an eager audience in the country.

Bollywood blockbuster movie Dhurandhar may have been banned from a theatrical release in Pakistan, but the film’s pirated copies are being openly sold in the country. YouTuber Karl Rock, who is based in India, recently found pirated copies of Aditya Dhar’s film being sold openly at Karachi’s well-known Rainbow Centre- a marketplace which is a hub of pirated content. The film is available in Pakistan for as little as PKR 50 (Rs 16 approximately), which is less than a dollar. Dhurandhar being sold at Karachi’s piracy hub Rock, who is originally from New Zealand and married to an Indian, was documenting his visit to Karachi's well-known Rainbow Centre when he stumbled upon a shopkeeper selling copies of the Ranveer Singh starrer film. Rock was surprised at how easily Indian films are available in Pakistan and that too at such a low price. “Indian films are banned in Pakistan, but look what I found," Rock can be heard saying in the video, adding, "This is a new film from India? "This is an Indian film, Dhurandhar. It has been released recently," the shopkeeper replied. "Ye film kitne ruppe ki hai? (How much for the movie?)" Rock then asks the shopkeeper, who responded: "Sir, it is for Rs 50 PKR (Rs 16)." Rock told his viewers that the film’s leading hero, Ranveer Singh, is a Sindhi whose grandparents moved to India from Pakistan during partition in 1947. "The success of Dhurandhar 1 in just one language has been so unprecedented. It has left behind South films. The contribution from the southern states, even for the Hindi original, is three times that of another successful Hindi film. It is the most-watched film in Pakistan too. Many people from the industry who I deeply respect have told me that there is life before Dhurandhar and there is life after Dhurandhar; you have changed the grammar of storytelling," said Deshpande. About Dhurandhar Aditya Dhar’s directorial venture Dhurandhar released in theatres in December 2025 and became a blockbuster. The film got an OTT release on January 30 and has topped Netflix’s Top 10 list.
Cruise travel has been trending globally with a 10% rise in cruise travel compared to pre pandemic levels. Travel for families with children is specially made easier with cruise travel due to the all inclusive nature, no packing needed as well as unique entertainment offered on cruises. Various companies are offering work from home options and working on a cruise seems like a great travel while working situation.

Cruises are a great way to slow travel and truly absorb the journey. Cordelia Cruises starts from Mumbai and goes to various ports spanning from Goa, Kochi and Lakshadweep. Cordelia Cruises is the only local cruise line within India which is designed to suit Indian consumers. Spanning from a separate Jain dining area to Indian theatrical performances, Cordelia has curated a stellar experience for the Indian traveller. What makes the cruising experience worthwhile are the experiences onboard. I knew I was going to have a great time from the time I boarded the cruise.

My mini suite came with a luscious balcony from which I could enjoy unparalleled views of the sea. My favourite moments were spent on the balcony reading a book every morning while hearing the waves pass by. For the mini suite guests, the meals were at the Starlight restaurant. The cuisine choices spanned from Indian, Asian and Italian to fusion. As a vegetarian, I could dine comfortably since the food was pure vegetarian with jain food options as well on the top deck of Starlight. I also tried the asian specialty restaurant Chopstix. Their tasting menu had hot and sour soup, spring rolls, rice with asian stir fried vegetables and a dark chocolate ganache at the end. The meal was delicious and I absolutely loved it. As a foodie, I felt like I was comfortable with the cruise food through and through. Vegetarian and jain food was clearly demarcated from the non vegetarian food and I could eat comfortably.

I spent 2 nights on the cruise before reaching Lakswadweep and another 2 nights while coming back. The only exception to being on the cruise were the five hours I spent on land in Lakshwadweep. Live entertainment on the cruise kept me occupied everyday. With shows by award winning magician Tejas to Cordelia’s own theatrical performance - Balle Balle, the cruise experience was a treat. I also enjoyed the live Reggae nights which introduced me to the unique culture of Jamaica as well as late night Bollywood hits. Dancing and singing the night away felt easy. It was a great way for me to bring in my new years.

Fun games like charades, bingo, raffles and pictionary were all a part of the itinerary. Beyond that there were special sessions to learn dancing, magic and much more. I also enjoyed rock climbing on the pool deck during sunset. To top it all off, when I was tired I could go to the room for some much needed sleep. Chocolates were thoughtfully placed by my bedside for a night treat and I felt like I was taken care of. The room truly became my home away from home where I could be myself.

In Lakshwadweep there were several activities I signed up for. From scuba diving where I could enjoy the luscious and bountiful coral reefs to kayaking in the pristine blue waters, Lakshadweep felt like a haven from Mumbai’s fast paced life and hectic AQI. In an era of frantic terminal transfers and rigid flight schedules, cruising offers a refreshing return to slow travel. It reimagines the transit itself as the highlight, allowing travellers to decompress and truly absorb the changing horizons.

Tender boats were ready when we reached Lakshwadweep to take us to the beach. Beyond that, Cordelia had also planned cars to take us to the beach.
