Pushpa: The Rule's shooting postponed due to Allu Arjun’s health issues

Pushpa: The Rule's shooting postponed due to Allu Arjun’s health issues

Allu Arjun in Pushpa: The Rise

The much-anticipated sequel to Sukumar's gripping thriller, Pushpa: The Rule, featuring Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil, and others reprising their roles, has encountered an unexpected setback. The recent shooting schedule at Hyderabad's Ramoji Film City hit a roadblock due to Allu Arjun's health concerns, halting the production of key scenes for the film.

The initial glimpse of the film showcased Allu Arjun adorned in a striking jatara get-up, signalling a departure from his previous appearance. Sources revealed that the ongoing shoot focused on sequences correlated to this unique attire, specifically related to Gangamma Thalli, a character Allu portrays in the film.

However, complications arose as Allu, in the elaborate costume and during physically demanding scenes, experienced severe back pain. Despite his determination to continue filming, Sukumar, the director, prioritised Allu's health and decided to postpone shooting until the second week of December.

An insider from Allu's team confirmed, "Allu Arjun was in the jatara get-up to shoot for a song and a fight sequence. However, the costume and the vigorous scenes gave him severe back pain. Bunny was game to continue shooting despite it but Sukumar decided to take a break instead of affecting his health further." The source further added, "Shooting will pick up again once he recuperates."

The enigmatic androgynous avatar showcased in the film's first-look poster captured widespread attention. Allu's portrayal, clad in body paint, a pattu saree, earrings, bangles, and rings, reflects Gangamma Thalli, an essential aspect of the narrative inspired by the lyrics from "Daakko Daakko Meka," referencing annual rituals held in Tirupathi.

Pushpa: The Rise, the predecessor to this sequel, received acclaim upon its December 2021 release. Allu's character, a former daily wage worker turned red sandal smuggler named Pushpa, resonated with audiences. The sequel is set to delve deeper into Pushpa's ambitions for power and his complex relationships, notably with Rashmika's Srivalli and Fahadh's Bhanwar Singh Shekawat, the antagonist.

The film's premiere is scheduled for August 15, 2024.
