AR Rahman and Saira Banu's divorce was a major shock to many. Earlier this week, the couple announced their separation after a long marriage of 29 years.
Since the news of the divorce was made public, the couple has faced heavy trolling from netizens, who have been continuously bashing the celebrity couple.
Amid all of this, Rahman and Banu's daughter Raheema addressed the rumours as she slammed the trollers.
Taking her Instagram stories, Raheema shared a statement that read, “Always remember… Rumours are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.”
Along with the post, she wrote, “Honestly, get a life.”
In another Instagram story, she shared a post of news about Rahman winning a Hollywood Music in Media Award for the background score of Aadujeevitham.
Sharing the report, she wrote, “You will always be our King and our leader'' along with hashtags “haters gonna hate” and “potatoes gonna potate.”
Earlier, Rahman and Saira’s two children Khatija and Ameen also shared a statement urging for privacy during this tough time.
Taking to Instagram stories, Ameen wrote, “We kindly request everyone to respect our privacy during this time. Thank you for your understanding.”
On November 19, AR Rahman's wife Saira announced their separation from the music composer.
The official statement read, “After many years of marriage, Mrs Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband Mr AR Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time. Mrs Saira emphasised that she has taken this decision out of pain and agony. Mrs Saira requests privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time, as she navigates this difficult chapter in her life."
Following Rahman and Banu's separation, Mohini Dey, a bassist of Rahman's troupe, also announced the end of her marriage. The timing of the two breakups led many to speculate the link between them.
However, Rahman's lawyer Vandana Shah dismissed the rumours. During an interview with Republic TV, she said, “There is no connection at all. Saira and Mr Rahman made this decision on their own.”
