Pakistan's out-of-favour batter Ahmed Shehzad has hit out at Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for 'damage control' after the humiliating 10-wicket loss against Bangladesh in the first Test of the ongoing two-match series.
Shehzad also called out 'favouritism' by PCB in the newly launched domestic Champions Cup while withdrawing his name. PCB recently launched the Champions Cup to bridge the gap between international and domestic cricket.
It is set to be played from September 12-29 among the top 150 cricketers of the country across format in Faisalabad.
"The condition of Pakistan cricket team is such that PCB needs some names that can stand in front to protect them so that they come in the line of fire. The lower the level of Pakistan cricket teams falls, the higher the money paid to these people. Even though they have coaching staff, but no disrespect, just like there are maids working at homes and the women of the house point out the dirty areas after a while, the work of the PCB looks the same," said Shehzad in a video posted on X.
Shehzad, who last represented Pakistan in a 2019 T20I, while announcing his withdrawal from Champions Cup, wrote: "With a heavy heart, I've decided not to play in the Domestic Cricket Champions Cup. The PCB's favoritism, false promises, and injustice towards domestic players are unacceptable."
"As a Pakistani and true cricket lover, I cannot support a system that has no value for merit. I refuse to be a part of this failed setup. As a Pakistani and true cricket lover, I cannot support a system that has no value for merit. I refuse to be a part of this failed setup,” Shehzad added.
Pakistan are currently playing the second Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi from August 30 to September 3.
