South Africa batter David Miller has opened up on losing the 2024 T20 World Cup final to India on Saturday (June 29). The batter, who got out on the first ball of the last over of the chase, conceded that it was a tough pill to swallow.

“I am gutted!! Really tough pill to swallow after what transpired 2 days ago. Words don’t explain how I am feeling. One thing I do know is how proud I am of this unit,” wrote Miller on official Instagram handle.

South Africa needed 16 runs in the final over and Miller was the last recognised batter they had.

Pandya, bowling the last over, bowled a low and wide full toss outside off which Miller connected well. The ball travelled to long off region where Suryakumar Yadav caught the ball just inside the boundary line but was disbalanced. SKY then popped the ball in the air and crossed the boundary only to comeback inside and catch it again.

Proteas batters number 8, 9 & 10 then couldn't score the needed runs as South Africa lost their maiden ICC Tournament final by seven runs. Miller, however, is confident of the team continuing to raise the bar in the future.

“This journey was an incredible one, with highs and lows throughout the entire month. We have endured pain, but I know this team has the resilience and will keep raising the bar,” he further wrote in his post.

SA were chasing 177-run target and were pretty much ahead for most parts of the match, thanks to Heinrich Klaasen's blazing 27-ball 52.

With 30 needed off last 30 balls, things turned around as Jasprit Bumrah came to bowl the 16th over and gave away just four runs. Pandya then removed Klaasen in the next over before Bumrah delivered a two-run and one wicket 18th over.

India's third pacer and joint-highest wicket take in tournament Arshdeep Singh bowled the penultimate over for four runs before Pandya bowled the final over to close the proceedings.
