IPL 2025: RR's 13-year-old mega auction pick Vaibhav Suryavanshi's father quashes fake age claim

Rajasthan Royals turned heads on second day of the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction 2025 when they acquired 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi. The batter from India's northern state of Bihar got the final bid of INR 1.1 crore (approx $0.13 million) and will have a chance to flourish with former India head coach and NCA head Rahul Dravid.
There were, however, some questions raised about the teen's real age with an old interview on YouTube from last year claiming his age to be 14 years at that time.

Vaibhav's father Sanjiv Suryavanshi, however, had quashed all the rumours about his age and said that the batter is ready to undergo age test again.
"When he was 8 and half years old he first appeared for BCCI bone test. He has already played India U-19. We don't fear anyone. He can again undergo age test," Sanjiv told news agency PTI.
The father was proud of his son's achievement in the auction and said: "He is not just my son now but entire Bihar's son. My son has worked hard. At the age of 8 years, he excelled at U-16 district trials. I would take him for his cricket coaching to Samastipur and then take him back."

Suryavanshi senior also recalled the sacrifices the family made for Vaibhav to achieve his dream and noted: "Not just investment, it's big investment. I have sold my land. Financial issues are still there.”
Vaibhav first hit the limelight when he was selected for India U-19 Test against touring Australia U-19 team in Chennai's iconic MA Chidambaram stadium in October last month. The 13-year-old, who made his Ranji Debut ahead 12 years and 284 days, went on to hit a 58-ball hundred in his first red-ball game for India across levels.
It'll be interesting to see how the batter, if given the opportunity, performs in arguably the biggest T20 league across the world.
