CT 2025: PCB pens letter to ICC after India refuses to travel, says 'we will not be accepting a hybrid model'
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday (Nov 12) wrotea letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) on their stance to host the 2025 Champions Trophy. Exclusively learned by WION, the PCB is reluctant to compromise on their hosting bid and wants to stage the entire Champions Trophy in Pakistan after India refused to travel to the nation. The PCB is also reluctant to compromise on the hybrid model which enables an unofficial co-host to stage India’s matches.
PCB reluctant to compromise
According to WION’s Anas Mallick, PCB has given certain grounds for their non-compromise stance which also includes the exclusion of India from the Champions Trophy if they don’t travel to Pakistan for the tournament.
“India must give solid grounds and reasoning for not coming to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. If other teams can come to Pakistan, why can’t India?” the details of the letter included.
“Champions Trophy will be held only in Pakistan, we will not be accepting a hybrid model. Previously, when teams refused to attend matches elsewhere, the match was considered forfeited and points were given to the opponent team as we have seen in the past. Also, when a team has refused to attend matches elsewhere, as per the rule, the next in line team has been considered for the tournament itself,” PCB’s letter further added.

Currently, the ICC is in limbo considering neither India nor Pakistan is ready to take a step back from their demands. This could result in the postponement of the Champions Trophy 2025 until a solution is found. Pakistan's refusal to play in a hybrid model comes after they saw the majority of their Asia Cup 2023 matches moved to Sri Lanka despite them being the official host. The hybrid model also saw Sri Lanka host the Asia Cup final.
The Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9 with eight teams participating while India’s participation still remains in limbo.
