Following a conversation with Switzerland's Neue Zuercher Zeitung, Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr voiced his frustration regarding the delays in aircraft deliveries from Boeing, highlighting the financial implications on the German airline.
According to Reuters, Spohr described the situation as "extremely annoying" and highlighted the significant monetary losses incurred due to the delivery hold-ups.
Despite the challenges, Spohr remains confident in Boeing's ability to address and resolve the ongoing issues.
"However, I am sure Boeing will get the problems under control," Reuters quoted him as saying.
Acknowledging the importance of having two strong aircraft providers in the industry, Spohr said that it was necessary for Boeing to regain its reliability in producing top-quality aircraft.
He also referred to Boeing's European competitor, Airbus, underlining the mutual interest in Boeing's successful resolution of its challenges.
Responding to inquiries about potential alternatives amid Boeing's difficulties, Spohr downplayed the possibility of purchasing Chinese aircraft in the near future.
He said that the Lufthansa Group upheld stringent safety standards, indicating that such a move is unlikely in the coming years.
Regarding Lufthansa's initiatives, Spohr was upbeat about the regulatory approval for the airline's planned stake purchase in Italy's ITA Airways.
He said that Lufthansa would continue its transatlantic flights to North America, dismissing any suggestion of concessions to facilitate regulatory clearance.
