US Secretary of State Marco Rubio shared on Monday (Feb 3) that he had been put in charge of the US aid agency, saying he would stop its "insubordination" to President Donald Trump's agenda.
"I'm the acting director of USAID," Rubio told reporters on a visit to El Salvador, saying that the agency had not answered questions and "that level of insubordination makes it impossible to conduct a sort of serious review."
In another development, the headquarters of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Washington, DC, was reportedly shut, with staff instructed to remain at home. This move comes as US President <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/donald-trump" rel="dofollow noopener" target="_blank">Donald Trump&rsquo;s</a> administration takes further steps towards the agency&rsquo;s possible closure.
According to Devex, a media platform focused on global development, employees received emails late on Sunday night advising them not to report to work the next day. Devex obtained a copy of the email, which was sent to USAID staff based at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, DC.

The message, apparently from &ldquo;senior leadership,&rdquo; was sent just a day after the agency&rsquo;s website was taken offline and shortly after its security director, John Voorhees, along with a deputy, were placed on &ldquo;administrative leave&rdquo; following an incident where they physically prevented the Doge team from accessing restricted areas.
Following this, Doge reportedly gained control over the building&rsquo;s access system, which allowed them to lock out staff and access emails. Additionally, the department sought personnel records and turnstile data, sources claimed.

So far, 13 Israeli and five Thai hostages have been released in exchange for 583 Palestinian prisoners.
The upcoming second phase is expected to address the release of remaining hostages and could include discussions aimed at securing a more permanent resolution to the conflict.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said the EU is strong enough to react to any US tariffs, but working together should be the goal. "It's clear that as a strong economic area, we can shape our own future and react to tariff policies... But the perspective and the goal should be that things result in cooperation," he said.

The passengers and crew members aboard the United Airlines Flight 1382 were evacuated due to a &ldquo;reported engine issue&rdquo;, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a statement, according to Fox News Digital. They will conduct an investigation on the incident.
The airlines also confirmed the near-disaster incident and issued a statement. Shortly after 8:30 am on Sunday (Feb 2), the crew aborted the takeoff from the Houston Airport in Texas due to a reported &ldquo;engine issue.&rdquo;

‘Something very powerful is going to happen’: Trump threatens to take Panama Canal

A man sitting in a restaurant was hit by flying debris from the doomed medical jet that crashed in Northeast Philadelphia, which killed all six onboard and injured at least 22 others on the ground.
The unidentified man was sitting at the Four Seasons Diner on Cottman Avenue when a piece of metal believed to be from the Learjet 55 plane crashed through the glass window, Fox 29 reported. The diner is located about half a mile from the crash site.

&ldquo;We all pretty shaken but everyone is OK,&rdquo; the diner manager Ayhan Tiryaki told The New York Post. &ldquo;The one customer was hit in the head with a piece of metal and he was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. We don&rsquo;t know exactly how he is but we hope he&rsquo;ll be OK.&rdquo;
He added no one else was hurt in the incident.

Another video emerged on social media showing the aftermath of the incident, in which a cardboard is seen taped to a restaurant window.
<h2>Black Box recovered</h2>
As per a 6ABC report, the black box, which contains the voice recording of the cockpit of an aircraft, has been recovered from the plane.
The black box was found eight feet underground at the crash site, the National Transportation Safety Board said Sunday (Feb 2) evening.

While the crash left a field of debris behind it, the black box was in &ldquo;decent shape&rdquo;, reported 6ABC, citing a source.
The plane&rsquo;s enhanced ground proximity warning system (EGPWS), which could contain flight data, has also been recovered, said NTSB. Both components will be sent to the NTSB Vehicle Recorders Laboratory in Washington DC for investigation, officials said.

The crash not only killed the ones on board but also resulted in one death and injured several others on the ground who were near the crash area in homes, parking lots and on the street. A man in a car nearby also lost his life in the tragic crash.

A man sitting in a restaurant was hit by flying debris from the doomed medical jet that crashed in Northeast Philadelphia, which killed all six onboard and injured at least 22 others on the ground. The unidentified man was sitting at the Four Seasons Diner on Cottman Avenue when a piece of metal believed to be from the Learjet 55 plane crashed through the glass window, Fox 29 reported. The diner is located about half a mile from the crash site. Black Box recovered As per a 6ABC report, the black box, which contains the voice recording of the cockpit of an aircraft, has been recovered from the plane. The black box was found eight feet underground at the crash site, the National Transportation Safety Board said Sunday (Feb 2) evening. The plane’s enhanced ground proximity warning system (EGPWS), which could contain flight data, has also been recovered, said NTSB. Both components will be sent to the NTSB Vehicle Recorders Laboratory in Washington DC for investigation, officials said. They are tasked to persuade the locals to abandon their long-held loyalties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.&nbsp;
These Ukrainian soldiers are also filming their outreach. This reflects the controversial role Kyiv plays as occupier in Russia's Kursk region, where some of its troops are engaged in deadly battles with &nbsp;Russian and North Korean troops.&nbsp;
Meanwhile, others are making a military-backed documentary about fighting for the hearts and minds of civilians, according to a Washington Post report.&nbsp;

However, the Washington Post was unable to independently verify accounts of the current situation for Russian civilians in Kursk because of the dangers of travelling in the region.
Russia has been claiming that Kyiv is mistreating civilians as it is controlling Kursk.&nbsp;
Amid Russian allegations that torture chambers had been found in parts of Kursk retaken by Russian forces, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters that proof &ldquo;must be voiced and shown.&rdquo;
