Trump’s tariff war escalates: US suspends parcels from China 'until further notice' after Beijing hits back

Afghanistan's Taliban authorities raided well-known women's radio station Radio Begum on Tuesday (Feb 4), arresting two employees, the broadcaster said, calling for the speedy release of its staff.&nbsp;
The&nbsp;Taliban&nbsp;information ministry said the&nbsp;station&nbsp;had been suspended for "multiple violations", in the latest search by the government of local media outlets in&nbsp;Afghanistan.
"Officers from the General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) assisted by representatives of the Ministry of Information and Culture raided today Begum's compound in Kabul," a statement from the&nbsp;radio&nbsp;station&nbsp;said.
The broadcaster said&nbsp;Taliban&nbsp;authorities searched the office, seizing computers, hard drives and phones, and detaining two male employees "who do not hold any senior management position".
It said it would not provide further comment, fearing for the security of the detained employees, and asked that the authorities "take care of our colleagues and release them as soon as possible".

"Officers from the General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) assisted by representatives of the Ministry of Information and Culture raided today Begum's compound in Kabul," a statement from the radio station said. It said it would not provide further comment, fearing for the security of the detained employees, and asked that the authorities "take care of our colleagues and release them as soon as possible". Philippines House of Representatives impeaches Vice President Sara Duterte

A manhunt is underway after at least one person was killed and five more were injured in a shooting at a warehouse in Ohio, police said early Wednesday.
&ldquo;At this point, we have a person of interest, and we are working to locate them and bring them into custody,&rdquo; Greg Jones, the chief of the New Albany Police Department told a news conference.
He said the huge warehouse had a large overnight staff and around 150 were evacuated to a neighboring building. &ldquo;A lot of them didn&rsquo;t know what happened. They weren&rsquo;t aware of it until they were evacuated,&rdquo; Jones said.

In an update posted by the New Albany PD, police said they had finished evacuating employees from the building. The shooter is still at large, with police adding that "the suspect is no longer believed to be in the area."
"New Albany Police are currently responding to an active shooter situation at KDC/One. It is currently an active scene, and police are locking down the building," the City of New Albany said in a statement.

<h2>Zelensky demands structured path towards NATO membership</h2>
Zelensky reiterated that Ukraine&rsquo;s preferred solution for securing lasting peace remains a structured path towards NATO membership. &ldquo;Will they give us missiles in such quantity that we can stop Russia? I am not sure about this, but I think it would help. Otherwise, what missiles can stop Russia's nuclear missiles?&rdquo; he questioned.
Admitting Ukraine&rsquo;s difficulties on the battlefield, Zelensky said that regaining all lost territory was unlikely. &ldquo;Regrettably, the support that is provided by our partners is insufficient to push Putin fully out of our territories,&rdquo; he said.

Punjab govt to receive deported Indians as US military plane arrives

Ten people have died in a mass shooting on Tuesday (Feb 4) at a school in Orebro, located in central Sweden, police in &Ouml;rebro said. The suspected assailant is also among the dead.&nbsp;

A political-military coalition of groups called the Alliance Fleuve Congo (River Congo Alliance), of which M23 is a member, said in a statement late Monday that it would implement "a ceasefire" from the next day "for humanitarian reasons".
It added that it had "no intention of taking control of Bukavu or other localities", despite the M23 having said last week that it wanted to "continue the march" to the Congolese capital Kinshasa.
In more than three years of fighting, half a dozen ceasefires and truces have been declared, before being systematically broken.&nbsp;
The Kenyan presidency announced on Monday that Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi and Rwandan President Paul Kagame would attend a joint extraordinary summit of the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in the Tanzanian city of Dar es Salaam on Saturday.&nbsp;
And as fears of a regional conflagration spiralled, the 16 member countries of the southern African regional organisation had called on Friday for "a joint summit" with the eight countries of the East African Community, of which Rwanda is a member.

The University of Goma called for students to return to class on Monday, signalling a desire to return to normal in the city.
The escalation in violence has seen at least 900 people killed in the Goma clashes and 2,880 wounded, according to the UN's humanitarian body.
The situation in the east of the country has international observers warning of a looming humanitarian crisis.
On Tuesday, the UN Human Rights Council said it would hold a special session on Friday to focus on "the human rights situation in eastern DRC" following a request by Kinshasa.
Goma city was "facing a humanitarian emergency", the UN's OCHA said on Tuesday, urging authorities to reopen the airport.
"Goma airport is a lifeline. Without it, the evacuation of the seriously injured, the delivery of medical supplies and the reception of humanitarian reinforcements are paralysed", it said in a statement.
<h2>South-Africa Rwanda spat</h2>
In South Africa, President Cyril Ramaphosa has vowed to keep providing support to the DRC in the face of nationwide calls to withdraw his country's troops following the deaths of 14 South African soldiers.
Most of those killed were part of an armed force sent to the eastern DRC in 2023 by the SADC bloc.
Kagame has said South African troops have no place in eastern DRC and are a "belligerent force engaging in offensive combat operations to help the DRC government fight against its own people".
A UN expert report said last year that Rwanda had up to 4,000 troops in the DRC, seeking to profit from the mining of minerals -- and that Kigali has "de facto" control over the M23.
Eastern DRC has deposits of coltan, the metallic ore that is vital in making phones and laptops, as well as gold and other minerals.
Rwanda has never explicitly admitted to military involvement in support of the M23 group and alleges that the DRC supports and shelters the FDLR, an armed group created by ethnic Hutus who massacred Tutsis during the 1994 Rwandan genocide.
In Kinshasa, calls have been growing for protests to urge the world to act. However, the authorities have banned demonstrations after embassies were attacked during previous rallies.
