"Israel will not accept a ceasefire without the release of our hostages. If Hamas persists with its refusal, there will be other consequences," the statement added.
Following Israel's announcement of Gaza aid suspension, Netanyahu's spokesman Omer Dostri wrote on X, "No trucks entered Gaza this morning, nor will they at this stage."
Far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, whose party plays a key role in keeping Netanyahu's government in power, welcomed the move.
Stopping aid "until Hamas is destroyed or completely surrenders and all our hostages are freed is an important step in the right direction", he said on Telegram, calling for a renewed fight "until total victory" against Hamas.
"We have remained in government to ensure this," he added.
The proposed extension, according to the Israeli statement, would involve a two-stage hostage release. Initially, half of the hostages currently held in Gaza would be freed on the effective date of the agreement. The remaining hostages would be released upon the successful negotiation of a permanent ceasefire.

Hamas called on "mediators and the international community to pressure" Israel to "put an end to these punitive, immoral measures against more than two million people in the Gaza Strip".

"For four years, the United States of America had a president who stood up at press conferences and talked tough about Vladimir Putin, and then Putin invaded Ukraine and destroyed a significant chunk of the country. The path to peace and the path to prosperity is, maybe, engaging in diplomacy," Vance said.&nbsp;
"From 2014 till 2022, the situation was the same. People have been dying on the contact line. Nobody stopped him. You know that we had conversations with him, a lot of conversations.... And we signed a deal with him. (French President Emmanuel) Macron and (former German Chancellor Angela) Merkel signed a ceasefire. All of them told me that he will never go... <h2>Israel backs plan to extend Gaza truce as first phase ends</h2>
Israel on Sunday (Mar 2) said that it backed a proposal for a temporary extension of the Gaza truce, serving as a transitional measure after the initial phase of its ceasefire with Hamas came to an end.
US President Donald Trump's Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, proposed the temporary extension of the ceasefire which would cover Ramadan, ending late March, and Passover, lasting through mid-April, according to a statement from the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office.
The proposed extension, according to the Israeli statement, would involve a two-stage hostage release. Initially, half of the hostages currently held in Gaza would be freed on the effective date of the agreement. The remaining hostages would be released upon the successful negotiation of a permanent ceasefire.
<h2>Hamas releases video of hostages</h2>
Meanwhile, Hamas, on Saturday (March 1), released a video showing multiple Israeli hostages in Gaza.
The video, published by the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, showed three individuals with visible faces. Two of them seemed to be hostages who had been freed in February, while the third requested the Israeli government for his release. Additionally, the footage included two more individuals whose faces were blurred. A message accompanying the video read, "Only a ceasefire agreement brings them back alive."
WION has not independently verified the authenticity of the footage.
In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office dismissed the video as propaganda.
"The Hamas terrorist organisation released another cruel propaganda video this evening, in which our hostages are forced to convey psychological warfare messages," Netanyahu's office said in a statement.&nbsp;

Netanyahu's office explained that on the very first day of the proposed framework, "half of the living and deceased hostages will be released and upon its conclusion &ndash; if agreement is reached on a permanent ceasefire &ndash; the remaining living and deceased hostages will be released".&nbsp;
"Steve Witkoff proposed the framework on extending the ceasefire after gaining the impression that, at present, there was no possibility of bridging between the positions of the sides on ending the war, and that additional time was required for talks on a permanent ceasefire," the Israeli PM's office said in a separate post on X.&nbsp;
It also said that Israel has agreed on the proposal but Hamas has "until now, clung to its rejection of this framework".&nbsp;
