Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei killed in Israeli attack
Following the death of Iran's Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint strike by Israel and US, Iran has announced the names of the transitional team which will decide on who will take his position.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's death in attack launched by Israel and the United States, has thrown the future of the Islamic Republic into doubt and raised the risk of regional instability. The death of Khamenei, 86, was announced by the the state-run IRNA news on Sunday. The confirmation came hours after US president took to Truth Social to confirm that Khamenei was killed in the joint air strike.
The question now arises as to who will replace Khamenei as the Supreme leader of Iran. Though this is yet to be announced and may take some time, the Iranian regime has announced the names of the transitional leadership team.
According to FARS news agency, which is considered close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, the President, the Head of the Judiciary, and one of the jurists of the Guardian Council will be responsible for the transitional period following the killing of Khamenei by US, Israeli forces.
Death of Khamenei
Following the death of Iran's Supreme leader in Israeli and US attack, 40 days of public mourning has been announced in Iran, state media reported. Iran’s state-run Fars News Agency reported that the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution was “martyred at his workplace in the Leader's Residence” during an attack in the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to Fars, Khamenei was at his office carrying out official duties when the strike occurred. “At the time of his martyrdom, he was performing his assigned duties and was present at his workplace (his office), and this cowardly attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning,” the agency said.

His death at his workplace, Fars said, disproved what it described as “enemy psychological warfare.” “His martyrdom at his workplace once again proved the unreality of these claims and the enemy's psychological warfare, and showed that he always stood fearlessly and courageously against arrogance among the people and in the stronghold of responsibility,” the agency reported.
