West Asia crisis: Israel says it hit Hezbollah's command centre in Lebanon's Beirut. Watch

The Israeli military said on Sunday (Oct 20) that it hit Iran-aligned Lebanese militant group Hezbollah's command centreand underground weapons facility in Lebanon's capital city of Beirut.

In a statement, the military said that the air force "conducted an intelligence-based strike on a command centre of Hezbollah's intelligence headquarters and an underground weapons workshop in Beirut."

Israeli strikes hit dozens of locations in south Lebanon: State media

The Israeli military's statement came after the Lebanese state media reported on Sunday that Israel struckdozens of south Lebanon villages and towns overnight and targeted Nabatiyeh city for a third time this week.

"Warplanes struck... the city of Nabatiyeh seven times," the National News Agency (NAA) said. NAA added thatIsraeli jets "conducted strikes" on more than 50 towns and villages, reporting casualties.

The conflict between Israel and Iran-aligned Lebanese militant group Hezbollahresumed a year ago when the militant group began firing rockets at Israel in support of Palestinian militants Hamas at the start of the Gaza war.

Since October 2023, more than 2,400 people have been killed in Lebanon, most of them in the last month, according to Lebanon's health ministry, while 59 people have been killed in northern Israel and the occupied Golan Heights, according to Israeli authorities.

Drone launched at Netanyahu's residence in northern Israel

A drone was launched towards Israeli Prime MinisterBenjaminNetanyahu's home in the northern Israeli town of Caesarea on Saturday, his spokesman said, adding that the premier was not in the vicinity and there were no casualties.

The drone attack was not immediately confirmed by Hezbollah.

Netanyahu, meanwhile, said in a post on X that the attempt of Hezbollahto assassinate him and his wife was a grave mistake.
