A debate has been triggered on social media over whether 'Rendangate' dish should be 'crispy' or not after a judge of MasterChef UK called traditional Malaysian dish 'Rendangate' not 'crispy' enough.
Masterchef contestant Zaleha Kadir Olpin, a Malaysian born woman cooked a spicy chicken with nasi lemak chicken rendangate which is a traditional dish of Malaysia.
But the judge John Torode and Gregg Wallace turned down the dish saying that ''it was not crispy''.
However, after the outrage Judge Torode, defending his comment said that what he was misunderstood and what he meant was that it was "not well cooked."
"What I meant was it wasn’t cooked. It simply wasn't cooked. It was white and flabby," Wallace told a British daily.
"She (Zaleha Kadir Olpin) didn’t go out because her (chicken) skin wasn't crispy. She went out because the other cooks were better," he added.
However, Malaysian were enraged as they criticisedTorode for saying that chicken rendance is not meant to be crispy and it is a dish which stewed in coconut milk.
