US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said on Sunday that the United States will not pull its troops out of Syria until its goals were accomplished.

It is our goal "to see American troops come home, but we are not going to leave until we know we have accomplished those things," Haley said.

In an interview to an American news channel, Haley listed out three aims for the United States. Haley noted that the Trump administration aims to ensure that chemical weapons are not used in any way that poses a risk to the US, that Islamic State is defeated and that there is a good vantage point to watch what Iran is doing.

US joined France and Britain on Friday to carry out missile strikes against Syrian targets.

Trump had previously expressed his intention to withdraw nearly 2,000 US troops deployed in Syria involved in the anti-Islamic State campaign. However, Trump's recent statement on Saturday appeared to contradict that message when he said that Western allies were prepared to "sustain" the military response if Syrian President Bashar al-Assad does not stop using prohibited chemical weapons.
