
The Indian Coast Guard has launched a massive search operation after one of its helicopters made an emergency landing in the Arabian Sea Monday night (Sep 2). Four aircrews, including two pilots, were on board the helicopter, deployed on a rescue operation.
While one diver was recovered later, three crews are still believed to be missing. A search operation is underway. The diver who was recovered from the sea is understood to be in a stable condition.
According to the Indian Coast Guard, the helicopter made an emergency landing in the Arabian Sea off the Porbandar coast of the Indian state of Gujarat. The helicopter was approaching a vessel for evacuation.
A total of four ships and two aircraft have been deployed in the rescue mission.
The Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) in question had so far saved 67 lives during recent cyclonic weather in Gujarat.
On Monday, the helicopter was on its way for medical evacuation of a seriously injured crew onboard Indian Flagged Motor Tanker Hari Leela, about 45 kms from Porbandar into the sea.
