Russia adds Alexei Navalny's wife Yulia to federal list of 'terrorists and extremists'

Russian authorities on Thursday (Jul 11) added late opposition leader Alexei Navalny's wife Yulia Navalnaya to the official federal list of “terrorists and extremists”. The development comes two days after a Moscow court issued an arrest warrant against the opposition figure.
Navalnaya currently resides outside Russia but if she decides to return to her country of origin, she would face immediate arrest and detention for six years.
Her personal details appeared Thursday in an online blacklist maintained by Rosfinmonitoring, a state agency designed to combat the financing of people and organisations Moscow deems "terrorists" or involved in "extremist activity".
After Navalny diedin a Russian prison, earlier this year, Navalnaya had declared that she would continue her late husband's work.
Now that Russia has officially designated her “extremist and terrorist”, the state can now freeze Navalnaya's bank accounts without a court order.

Reacting to the development, Navalnaya’s spokeswoman Kira Yarmysh said the speed of the Rosfinmonitoring designation means the opposition figure is “doing everything right.”
Navalnaya had previously slammed the court warrant issued two days ago, saying Russian leader Vladimir Putin was a war criminal and he should be in prison.
"Vladimir Putin is a killer and a war criminal. He belongs in prison," she said.
Navalny's former chief of staff Leonid Volkov termed the warrant a recognition of Yulia's efforts.
"Quite a recognition of Yulia's determination to continue Alexei’s fight!" Volkov said.
Previously, Russia had outlawed Navalny's organisations, adding them to the infamous list of "extremists and terrorists."

Navalnaya has stood her ground against Putin's regime despite pressure from Moscow. During the March elections, she had called for mass protests against the president by forming long queues outside voting stations.
