Positive messages between PM Imran, Modi good for strong bilateral relations: US

A day after India responded to Pakistan agreeing to open the way for dialogue at United Nations General Assembly(UNGA)next month, the United States called it a "terrific news".

"We saw that reports of meetings between Indian and Pak leaders. I think that's a terrific news for the Indians and Pakistanis to be able to sit down and have a conversation together," State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert told reporters at her daily news conference.
In his letter to Indian prime minister Narendra Modi, Pakistan PM Imran Khan had said the two countries owed it to the people especially the future generations to "peacefully resolve all outstanding issues, including the Jammu & Kashmir dispute."
In the letter, PM Imran Khan had proposed a meeting with India's foreign minister Sushma Swaraj with her Pakistan counterpart Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi at the sidelines of the upcoming UN General Assembly in New York.
Speaking on India's approval, State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert said: "We saw the reports about the positive messages being exchanged between Prime Minister Khan and also Prime Minister Modi," adding,"we hope that the conditions will be set for a good strong relationship, a good strong bilateral relationship in the future," she said.

Pakistan PM had said his country was ready to discuss terrorism while endorsing Indian prime minister Modi's sentiment of opening “constructive engagement”.
Responding to Pakistan PM's invitation for dialogue, Indian external affairs ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said although the Indian government had agreed to meet the Pakistan foreign minister Quereshi but it had not decided what would be discussed at the meeting.
"It had so far only been decided that the two foreign ministers would meet," Ravish Kumar added.
Last month, PM Modi in his letter had said India was looking for constructive and meaningful engagement with Pakistan, while asserting that India was committed to peaceful and neighbourly ties with Pakistan. PM Modi also stressed the need to work for a terror-free South Asia.
