The Ukrainian armed forces are using 'flamethrower' drones to destroy Russian positions in the ongoing war, a new viral video has shown. While drone warfare has been an effective part of modern wars, especially since the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict where Azerbaijan showed its effective utilisation -- Ukraine has taken it a notch above.

In the video footage posted on Telegram and other social media platforms by Ukraine’s 108th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade, an FPV drone can be seen blasting out flames where the Russian troops are believed to be positioned.

Reports suggest that the combat footage was filmed in the eastern Donetsk region, where Russian forces are focusing their advance toward the city of Pokrovsk—a key logistical hub for Ukrainian forces.

According to experts, the video highlights the destructive capability of the modified drones as the thermite ignites upon contact, creating an inferno capable of smoking Russian positions.

The clip caught the attention of netizens who were truly astounded by the deadly innovation of the war.

"This looks like science fiction. The drone war in Ukraine continues to evolve. Western militaries would be struggling to keep up with developments like this," said one user, while another added: "Drones are terrifying enough. But fire-dropping drones. Nightmare fuel!"

A third commented: "You think you've seen the last new creative use of combat drones and then."

War continues

Earlier this week, Ukraine launched a massive 158-drone attack against Russia, which sparked a large fire at a major oil refinery in Moscow.

Russia retaliated on Tuesday by launching two ballistic missiles that struck the Ukrainian city of Poltava and killed over 50 and injured 235.

A report by the news agency Associated Press said that this strike appeared to be one of the deadliest carried out by Russian forces since the war began on February 24, 2022.
