The Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris urged Americans to write the "next chapter" for their country and end the "drama and conflict" in her closing speech in Washington DC on Tuesday (Oct 29).

While addressing thousands of people present at The Ellipse, the place where the US Capitol riots of January 6 started, Harris warned the voters against Trump's "lust for unchecked power."

"It is time to turn the page on the drama and the conflict, the fear and division. It is time for a new generation of leadership in America," the Democrat said.

While criticising Trump's "Enemies from within" comment, the vice president said, "This is someone who is unstable, obsessed with revenge, consumed with grievance and out for unchecked power."

'My presidency will be different'

Harris warned that the election was a choice between a "country rooted in freedom for every American, or ruled by chaos and division."

She reminded the crowd that Trump stood at the same spot nearly four years ago and "sent an armed mob" to the Capitol.

Further, Harris addressed one of her main weaknesses, the fact that some voters still see her as a continuation of Biden, who dropped out of the White House race in July.

"My presidency will be different because the challenges we face are different," she vowed.

A 'closing' to campaign?

Although there is almost a week to go for the presidential election, the Harris campaign cast the speech as a "closing argument" indicating that it was the end of her election campaign.

'Terrible policies'

The campaign for Trump reacted to Harris' comments on the former president as they issued a statement saying the vice president was "lying, name-calling, and clinging to the past to avoid admitting the truth".
