Gaza war: Turkey might enter Israel to help Palestinians, says Erdogan

Turkish PresidentRecep Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday (Jul28) that his country mightenter Israel as it had done in the past in Libya and Nagorno-Karabakh, though he did not spell out what sort of intervention he was suggesting.
President Erdogan has been a fierce critic of Israel's ongoing offensive in the Gaza Strip. He dubbed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "the butcher of Gaza" and accused him of spreading the Israel-Hamas war across the wider Middle East.
According to a report by the news agency Reuters, Erdogan on Sunday was discussing the war during a speech praising the Turkish defence industry.

"We must be very strong so that Israel can't do these ridiculous things to Palestine. Just like we entered Karabakh, just like we entered Libya, we might do similar to them,"Erdogantold a meeting of his ruling AK Party in his hometown of Rize.
"There is no reason why we cannot do this ... We must be strong so that we can take these steps," he added. Israel did not comment on Erdogan's remarks.
In 2020, Turkey sentmilitary personnel to Libya in support of the United Nations-recognised Government of National Accord of Libya.

Turkey has denied any direct role in Azerbaijan's military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh but said last year it was using "all means", including military training and modernisation, to support its close ally.
Turkey slams claims of Ankara funding Hamas
Erdogan's remarks on Sunday came a week after Turkey slammed Israeli claims that Ankara was arming and funding Hamas.Israel's Foreign Minister Israel Katz accused Erdogan of supplying arms and money to Hamas to kill Israelis.
Turkey called Katz's remarks lies. In a statement, the Turkish foreign ministry said that Katzwas "trying to conceal the crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinians behind a series of lies, slander and disrespect."
"But Israel's dirty propaganda and psychological pressure aimed at our country and our president will remain ineffective," the ministry's statement added.
