Gaza war: Father and son, both doctors, killed in Israeli air strike on Deir al-Balah

Muhammad NimrQazaat,and his sonYoussef, both doctors by profession,were killed in an Israeli air strike on the city of Deir al-Balah in a central area of the Gaza Strip, the war-tornregion'scivil defence agency said on Sunday (May 12).
In a statement, the civil defence agency said,"The bodies of Doctor Muhammad Nimr Qazaat and his son, Doctor Youssef, were recovered (asthey were killed) because of an Israeli raid on the city of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, andthey were transferredto Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah."
The Israeli military did not comment on the development yet.
Israel launches fresh strikes inGaza
This raid came as the Israeli military launched fresh strikes in the Gaza Strip on Sunday after it expanded an evacuation order for Rafah. Citing witnesses, a report by the news agency AFP said thatIsrael had carried out strikes in Rafah near the crossing with Egypt on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, theIsraeli military said it called on residents and displaced people in Jabalia, northernGazato clear out,saying it was returning to operate in the area after it noticed Hamas trying to re-establish its control (ofthe area).
“In northernGaza, in the last hour, fighter jets have been striking terrorist targets. This morningwebegan a temporary evacuation process of the Jabalia area from this area towards the centre of thestripas part of our preparation for a military operation in the area. In recent weeks, we have identified attempts by Hamas to restore its military capabilities in Jabaliaandwe are working to dismantle these attempts,"Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari said.
Gaza truce deal possible tomorrow if...: Joe Biden
As the hopes of a ceasefire deal in the Gaza war are fading, United States President Joe Biden said on Saturday that a truce in the warwas possible as soon as"tomorrow"if Hamas released hostages.Some 250 peoplewere abductedto the Gaza Strip on October 7 when Hamas militants attacked southern Israel.
Israel has said 128 of them are still held captive in the Palestinian territory. Among them, 38 are presumed to be dead.

"There would be a ceasefire tomorrow if Hamas would release the hostages,"US President Bidensaid at a fundraiser outside Seattle, at the home of a former Microsoft executive, after avoiding the topic at three similar events on Friday.
"Israel saidit'sup to Hamas, ifthey wanted to do it, we could end it tomorrow. And the ceasefire would begin tomorrow,"he added.Hamas and Israel have so far failed to reach a ceasefire deal despite repeated rounds of indirect negotiations.
