Brown University shooting: Video of people taking shelter at safe locations emerge. WATCH

Hours after a deadly shooting at Brown University in Rhode Island, near Boston, on Saturday (Dec 13), the Providence Police Department is still working to nab the shooter. While people inside Brown University’s campus have been advised to remain in secured places until authorities escort them to a safe location. “Police will enter all administrative (non-residential) buildings within the perimeter marked by the red boxes on the map to escort all individuals to safe locations outside of the perimeter,” the alert by the university read.

Meanwhile, a video of people taking shelter at safe locations has emerged on social media. One can clearly see people with tension on their faces sitting on the floor between what looks like rows of book shelves in a hall. Soon security forces enter and ask them to raise their hands and stand in a row. After checks, they are escorted out from the hall.

About Brown University shooting?

The incident took place in the afternoon inside a classroom at Brown University’s Barus and Holley building, which is home to the engineering and physics departments. The university said that multiple exams were scheduled in the building at the time of the shooting.

At 4:22 pm, the university sent an emergency alert reporting “an active shooter near Barus and Holley Engineering.” The warning further said, “Lock doors, silence phones and stay hidden until further notice.”

What we know about gunman

According to law enforcement, the suspect is described as a man dressed in all black and was last seen leaving the building. Authorities have so far not recovered any weapons.

Located in Providence, near Boston, Brown University has about 11,000 students.
