A fine of 10,400 euros ($11,800) has been imposed on the Belgian prince in Spain for violating lockdown rules on a trip to the Andalusian city of Cordoba.
The fine on Joachim was "for breaking confinement, which he has recognised, he's been notified and 10,400 euros are required", a government official said, reported AFP.
Joachim, who arrived in the city at the end of May, has 15 days to appeal the fine.
The story was first broken by website El Confidencial, which leaked a report from the regional health authority, saying "a person who had travelled from Belgium ... met a total of 27 friends and acquaintances on May 26 at a Cordoba residential building".
During that time, no more than 15 people together were allowed in the southern area due to the measures put in place to contain the virus spread.
The report further said that two days after the party, the same person got infected with the coronavirus.
The 28-year-old prince is the nephew of the Belgian king.
After coronavirus lost its grip in China and entered Europe, Spain and Italy were the hardest-hit by it during that time.
Over 27,000 people have died from COVID-19 in Spain and the strict lockdown measures imposed would be fully lifted at the end of this month.
