Florida sea turtles are grappling with a gender imbalance. Research shows that if a turtle's eggs incubate below 27.7 degrees Celsius, the turtle hatchlings will be male but if the eggs incubate above 31 degrees Celsius then the hatchlings will be female. Recent heat waves made worse by climate change have caused the sand on some beaches to get so hot that nearly every turtle born was female.
