Al-Sharaa: Attempt to violate Syrian sovereignty will be opposed

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa told the United Nations that the Golan Heights remains Syrian territory, rejecting Colombia’s recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the strategic plateau. Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War and annexed it in 1981. The U.S. recognized Israel’s claim in 2019, while Colombia announced its recognition in August.
