<p>Turkey on Wednesday gifted a new search puppy to Mexico after their rescue dog died while helping the Mexican Army locate survivors of the February 6 earthquake that shook Turkey and Syria.</p>

<p>The German Shepherd sent by Turkey is just three-month-old and he will now join the famous canine unit of Mexico which specialises in helping the army find survivors in countries that suffer&nbsp;natural disasters like earthquakes.</p>

<p>The furry puppy, who is black and beige in colour and has outsize paws and perky ears, has been given the name 'Arkadas' which means "friend" in the Turkish language based on online voting.</p>

<p>The trainer, who took care of rescue dog Proteo that died during a rescue mission in Turkey, will train Arkadas also, the army stated.</p>

<p>The rescue dogs were deployed by Mexico to Turkey after the nation was hit by a 7.8-magnitude earthquake near the southern border with Syria which led to the death&nbsp;of at least 54,000 people in both nations.</p>

<p>The remains of Proteo were sent back to Mexico, where an emotional ceremony was organised in his honour before he was buried. Earlier this year, Mexico had paid homage to the German Shepherd at a military funeral.</p>

<p>Mexico stated that the canine gift of Turkey showed that "humanitarian aid knows no limits or borders".</p>

<p>The ministry, on its Facebook page, said that it was "waiting with open arms" for the puppy sent by Turkey, stating that it hoped Arkadas would follow the paw steps of Proteo.</p>

Delhi India’s ‘most forgetful city’ in Uber’s ‘Lost and Found Index 2023’

<p>In what comes as an unfortunate incident, a woman plummeted to her death at an Indonesian airport after forcing open the wrong set of doors of a lift and falling down the shaft. The incident was caught on CCTV cameras showing the last few minutes of the woman, identified as 38-year-old Aisiah Sinta Dewi.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dewi had gone to Kualanamu Airport in Medan, Northern Indonesia on April 24 to meet her niece at the check-in area. In the video footage, Dewi calmly walks into the double-sided cabin and pushed the button for the second floor before looking at her phone. Unaware that the lift opened on the other side as well, a confused Dewi started pressing the emergency buttons frantically and called her niece about the distressing situation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>She later started to pry open the door and somehow managed to successfully do it. However, unfortunately, without looking down, she stepped out and plunged down the gap into the lift shaft.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The family of the deceased asked the airport authorities to look for her&nbsp;after losing contact. But they could not make any progress, saying she was not found in the airport terminal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The body was only found when passengers complained of a foul smell emanating from the lift. After the authorities investigated the smell, they stumbled upon Dewi's rotting body which had been lying in the shaft for three days. The lift, however, was working fine.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dewi's brother Raja Hasibuan blamed the authorities and their poor elevator security as the reason for her sister's death.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We asked for the video from the elevator because it was there that we lost contact with her," said Hasibuan. "This is an international-level airport. How are safety standards like this? And the response from the staff was very, very unsatisfactory."</p>

Unfortunate! Indonesian woman falls to her death down airport elevator shaft

<p>A 33-year-old nurse from Chester, England accused of murdering seven babies between June 2015 and June 2016 has taken a stand for herself for the first time in years. Lucy Letby from the Countess of Chester hospital was accused of killing seven babies and attempting to murder 10 infants in the neonatal unit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On Tuesday, she presented evidence at the Manchester Crown Court where she faces the allegations.&nbsp;The nurse broke down in tears in the witness box after being asked how she is coping with her situation. She told the court that her ‘whole world was stopped’ when she was accused of the ‘sickening’ murders of several babies.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During a search operation in her house, police authorities found a Post-it note in her home with the message ‘I am evil, I did this’. When defence barrister Ben Meyers KC asked about this, Letby reasoned, “because I felt at the time I had done something wrong and I thought I’m such an awful, evil person…that I had made mistakes and not known.”</p>

<p>The nurse said she thought “that somehow I had been incompetent and I had done something wrong to affect these babies. I felt I must be responsible in some way.”</p>

<p><strong>Allegations against Lucy Letby</strong></p>

<p>Letby is accused of fatally injecting newborns with insulin, air or milk during a 12-month period in the neo-natal ward at the hospital. It was also alleged that one of the seven babies, was just 24 hours old when Letby reportedly injected him with air, killing him just 90 minutes after she came on shift. The next day, she also allegedly tried to kill her twin sister.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Letby denies all allegations and said that her job was her life and she will never do something like this. ‘I can’t put it into words, it is just, my whole world was stopped,”&nbsp;she said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I think it’s completely changed everything about me, about my life, about the hopes I had for the future. Everything is just gone.”</p>

<p><strong>Various notes recovered from Letby’s house</strong></p>

<p>Police recovered another post from her house, in which she had written, “not good enough”, “I can’t breathe, I can’t focus” and “I hate myself.”</p>

<p>She told the court that she wrote all of this as she was diagnosed with depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder and needed medication to help her sleep.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The University of Chester graduate said she wrote them as she tried to cope with being removed from the neonatal unit in 2016. “I felt immense responsibility,” she said. “I felt I had been incompetent or done something wrong that had harmed children.”</p>

<p>In one of the recovered documents from Letby’s house, she wrote, “BASTARDS” about two of her colleagues, Dr Ravi Jayaram and Dr Stephen Breary, who first raised concerns about her to hospital management.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Letby explained that this was not “the language I would use” but that’s “how I felt about some people…because of the things they’d been saying about me”.</p>

<p><strong>Letby wrote a sympathy card for the baby she is accused of killing</strong></p>

<p>Nurse Letby photographed a sympathy card to the grieving parents of a baby girl to remember her “kind words”. She captured the image on her mobile phone ahead of the young one’s funeral.&nbsp;</p>

<p>She is accused of murdering the prematurely-born infant known as Child I, in the early hours of October 23, 2015.</p>

<p><strong>Letby’s Facebook searches tell a different story</strong></p>

<p>The court was told by the police authorities that between June 2015 and June 2016, Letby made 2,381 Facebook searches, out of which some were about the parents of babies she allegedly murdered.&nbsp;</p>

<p>She told jurors it was “just out of curiosity” and “they were obviously on my mind at that point”. She further said that it was “normal” for her to satisfy her “curiosity by searching for friends, colleagues and parents of children she had treated.”&nbsp;</p>

Lucy Letby from the Countess of Chester hospital was accused of killing seven babies and attempting to murder 10 infants in the neonatal unit. On Tuesday, she presented evidence at the Manchester Crown Court where she faces the allegations. The nurse broke down in tears in the witness box after being asked how she is coping with her situation. When defence barrister Ben Meyers KC asked about this, Letby reasoned, “because I felt at the time I had done something wrong and I thought I’m such an awful, evil person…that I had made mistakes and not known.” The nurse said she thought “that somehow I had been incompetent and I had done something wrong to affect these babies. <p>Vivek Murthy, the United States surgeon general on Tuesday (May 2nd) released an advisory on loneliness and isolation, silent killers that are affecting thousands of people in the country.</p>

<p>He urged the people as well as public officials to treat the matter with the same urgency that is given to other serious conditions like drug abuse.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per Murthy, loneliness is affecting about half the people living in the US.</p>

<p>"Right now, millions of people are telling us through their stories and statistics that their tank is running on empty when it comes to social connection," he said, adding that it needs to be a public health priority.</p>

<p>"Research produced by Gallup, Pew Research Centre, and the National Opinion Research Center’s General Social Survey demonstrates that since the 1970s, religious preference, affiliation, and participation among US adults have declined," says the advisory.</p>

<p>It further cites polls from the 1970s wherein 45 per cent of Americans said they can trust their fellow countrymen, by 2016, this number fell to 30 per cent.</p>

<p>Additionally, "individuals from ethnic and racial minority groups, LGBTQ+ individuals, rural residents, victims of domestic violence, and those who experience discrimination or marginalisation."</p>

<p>As per Murthy's advisory, "young&nbsp;adults are almost twice as likely to report feeling lonely than those over 65." Between 1976 and 2019, the rate of loneliness among young adults has increased every year.</p>

<p>One reason behind this influx in isolation and loneliness could be people's growing dependence on technology.</p>

<p>Americans on average spend six hours a day on digital media, and one in three said they are online "almost constantly."</p>

<p>The lack of connection, according to the Guardian report quoting the Kaiser Family Foundation, contributes to an increase in hospital visits and dementia. It also adds to a vicious cycle of anxiety and depression that one-third of US adults reported experiencing.</p>

<p>"Many of us felt lonely or isolated in a way we had never experienced before," Murthy's advisory says that while social connection had been declining for decades before COVID-19 but the pandemic exacerbated it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The advisory points to the importance of social connection and that, as per recent estimates synthesised from 148 studies, suggests that it increases the odds of survival by 50 per cent.</p>

<p>It further suggests that being around people, especially loved ones, also motivates one to take care of themselves.</p>

'Our epidemic of loneliness and isolation': US surgeon general points to the importance of social connection

<p>The barbarity of the past often becomes a topic of fascination today. We've seen it happen many times. There are many who want to experience the chill they get when they visit, say a medieval torture chamber or a notorious murderer's medieval home even.</p>

<p>Joining that list of places eliciting weird fascination is Pentridge Prison in Australia. This prison in Melbourne has now been converted into a luxury hotel. It's now called oh-so-stylishly Adina Apartment Hotel Pentridge.</p>

<p>The Pentridge Prison was built in 1851 and housed criminals as recently as 1997. In its heydays, it locked up dreaded names in Australia's criminal world. In the 1800s, Ned Kelly and Harry Powers were inmates. Squizzy Taylor, the early 20th-century gangster (dis) graced the prison chambers. Chopper Read, the contemporary ex-criminal-turned-celebrity has also been housed in this prison.</p>

<p>The prison was decommissioned in 1997 and in 2002, redevelopment of the area was mooted. Around one billion dollars were spent, as a result of which the&nbsp;'prison' will now see&nbsp;some lavish visitors, intent on spending big for a period of luxury at a place that was synonymous with all depravity not too long in the past.</p>

<p>The old B Division of the prison was used to force solitary confinement on the most hardened criminals. A report from Sydney Morning Herald shows a photo with lavish seating in the B Division where you can enjoy a delicious drink with your friends. A far cry from solitary confinement.</p>

<p>The hotel has 106 one and two-bedroom and studio apartments.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It has perhaps become a place you'd want to visit often. A far cry from what it was just 26 years ago.</p>

It's now called oh-so-stylishly Adina Apartment Hotel Pentridge. The Pentridge Prison was built in 1851 and housed criminals as recently as 1997. In its heydays, it locked up dreaded names in Australia's criminal world. In the 1800s, Ned Kelly and Harry Powers were inmates. Squizzy Taylor, the early 20th-century gangster (dis) graced the prison chambers. Chopper Read, the contemporary ex-criminal-turned-celebrity has also been housed in this prison. The prison was decommissioned in 1997 and in 2002, redevelopment of the area was mooted. Around one billion dollars were spent, as a result of which the 'prison' will now see some lavish visitors, intent on spending big for a period of luxury at a place that was synonymous with all depravity not too long in the past. The old B Division of the prison was used to force solitary confinement on the most hardened criminals. A report from Sydney Morning Herald shows a photo with lavish seating in the B Division where you can enjoy a delicious drink with your friends. A far cry from solitary confinement. <p>A dog from Ireland has made headlines after he escaped his new owner and walked 64 km back to its former home. The dog, named Cooper, was adopted by a family in Dungannon, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland; however, he was not happy with his new surroundings.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He then chose to take the perilous path to his original home. As per media reports, the previous owner of the dog was no longer able to care for him, and he had sent the dog to the kennels.</p>

<h2><strong>The dog evaded the search party for 25 days</strong></h2>

<p>As per a report by the Times Now, the dog spent just a few hours at his new place, where he was supposed to live with his new four-legged roommate ‘Molly.’ &nbsp;However, he managed to escape within hours. The new owners roped in a missing pets charity, Lost Paws NI, to aid in the search efforts. However, the Golden Retriever continued to evade the search party for 25 days.</p>

Lost Paws IN in a statement said, “We quickly contacted Nigel, his new owner and around 20 minutes later a photo arrived in our inbox of a dishevelled but breathing Cooper, something we were absolutely elated to see.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>The dog apparently relied on his nose to guide himself to the place he originally thought of as his home. He took the remarkable journey from Dungannon to Cookstown to Magherafelt and finally to Tobermore, with no human assistance and without having any meal.</p>

<p>Transport Minister Volker Wissing labelled the initiative "the biggest public transport reform in German history."&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the initiative's&nbsp;success is far from assured. According to the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV), it is expected that only about 16 million people out of Germany's total population of 84 million will take advantage of the new flat-rate travel card.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Around 750,000 tickets have already been sold, but this number does not include those who plan to switch from their current transport subscriptions to the new initiative.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The&nbsp;travel card has been welcomed by environmental groups as an important step towards fighting climate change.</p>

<p>Mark Zuckerberg, famous for building arguably the most famous social media platform Facebook and the Metaverse, is now "building" dresses. Recently, the tech mogul took to Instagram to share pictures of 3D-printed dresses he made for his daughter.</p>

<p>The Facebook CEO posted pictures of his daughter wearing the 3D printed clothes with the caption, "I love building things and recently started designing and 3D printing dresses with the girls. A few projects from the last month."</p>

<p>He also revealed that for this special project, he learned to sew. "and yes, I had to learn to sew," he wrote.</p>

<p>In what comes as an intriguing decision, 300 police officers in the Indian northeastern state of Assam have been offered voluntary retirement for being 'habitual drinkers'. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed about the decision on Sunday (April 30).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking to reporters, Sarma said,&nbsp;“About 300 officers and jawans are habitual drinkers, and consumption of too much alcohol has damaged their bodies."</p>

<p>"The government has a provision for a voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) for them. It is an old rule, but we had not implemented it earlier,” he added.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Vacancies to be filled</strong></h2>

<p>The CM informed that the process had been initiated to bring new recruits to fill the vacancies. He added that the government was currently working on decentralisation of governance.</p>

<p>Reportedly, a motion has been set to open offices with power that previously rested with&nbsp;the deputy commissioners’ office in all 126 legislative assembly constituency areas of the state.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“We are trying to ensure people don’t have to travel to the district headquarters for work at the DC’s office, and that the DC’s office is available in every LAC area," said Sarma.&nbsp;<br />

“The DCs will look after law and order, and they will be given different responsibilities."</p>

<p>An event space in New York's hip neighbourhood saw a breathwork experience last week in which participants took part in guided breathing exercises and a vegan dinner, all while being naked. Men as well as women took part in the 'Füde Breathwork Experience' which reportedly had no sexual aspect but was aimed at connecting the participants with their "most pure authentic selves" as per the experience's founder Charlie Ann Max (29).</p>

<p>Max's love for cooking, nudity, and companionship inspired her to host her first naked group meals in 2020.</p>

<p>She now organizes four sister events in New York and Los Angeles, including The Füde Dinner Experience, The Füde Breathwork Experience, The Füde Clay Experience, and The Füde Photo Experience.</p>

<p>The name pays homage to Max's German-Jewish heritage and is pronounced like "food."</p>

<p>The participants need to pay between USD 44 to USD 88 for entry.</p>

<p>It's "definitely worth it," said Niko Jane, who participated in Friday's event, her third Füde.</p>

<p>"It's stepping out of your comfort zone in such a safe way, even though it doesn't seem like that walking in the door," said Jane. "When you get here, you're... everyone's a little timid and a little, like, slow. But I mean, the more you're here, people are just hanging out, and we just happen to be naked. It's nice to be in a space that's not sexual. Naked."</p>

<p>A breathwork facilitator guided the participants through the breathing exercise after which they had a vegan dinner of herb salad, basmati rice, and chocolate-covered strawberries.</p>

<p>Many, like Mehow Podstawski, focused instead on the breakthroughs that came from the breathwork.</p>

<p>"Out of nowhere, I realised that I was working through a fear that I didn't know I had, and I just started crying," said Podstawski. "And all of a sudden, it was like this fear that you have is so irrational that it doesn't matter, and you are powerful enough and strong enough to, like, go through this, and take on the next opportunity that comes your way because you are, you have the strength, and the only reason why you're saying 'no' is because you're scared. And so that was really nice."</p>

New Yorkers come together to practice breathwork naked, hail experience

<p>When the driver of a school-bus full of children faints when the bus is moving along a road, it is definitely a recipe for disaster. But quick observation and initiative by a 7th grader in the US averted what could have been a major mishap.</p>

<p>The student of Warren Consolidated Schools in Michigan, USA is being hailed for his bravery. In the video of the incident, the driver of the bus can be seen initially&nbsp;driving the vehicle. Just seconds into the video, the driver can be seen in distress, trying to ventilate herself. She soon faints on the driving seat while the bus moves.</p>

<p>Enter Dillon Reeves, a 7th grader who rushes&nbsp;to the scene and takes reins of the moving vehicle. He soon brings the bus under control while asking his panicking schoolmates to "call 911," the emergency number.</p>

<p>As reported by Fox2 Detroit, the boy was able to stop the bus on Masonic Boulevard near Bunert Road. Superintendent Robert Livernois has been quoted as saying that when the driver of the bus fainted in her seat, the bus was heading towards oncoming traffic.</p>

<p>About 66 children were reportedly travelling in the bus when the incident took place.</p>

<p>"In my 35-plus years of education, this was an extraordinary act of courage and maturity on his part," Livernois said. "He ran to the front of the bus, grabbed the steering wheel and brought the bus to a stop in&nbsp;the middle of the road.</p>

<p>"And he had the wherewithal to push the brake down slowly - likely in anticipation that the bus was full of passengers."</p>

<p>Livernois was quoted by Fox2 Detroit. He said that the driver is still hospitalised.</p>

<p>"WCS is proud of the heroic actions of Carter Middle School student Dillon R. during a recent medical emergency involving a district bus driver. Superintendent Dr. Robert D. Livernois held a press conference this afternoon to provide information and answer questions from local media," said Warren Consolidated Schools in a Facebook post.</p>

<p>Dillon did not speak at the press conference but his parents said that they were very proud of their son.</p>

<p>"I asked him how did you know what to do," his mom said. "He said that he watches her drive everyday."</p>

<p>Waziri said Berenice was one of the largest seaports in Roman-era Egypt, and was often the destination for ships from India laden with spices, semi-precious stones, textiles and ivory.</p>

<p>The microblogging platform added that it was looking forward to helping customers unlock the power of Twitter ads and connect with the cannabis conversation to drive the business forward.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The honorary award is conferred by the British monarch to foreign nationals for their contribution to public life. It is approved by the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) earlier this month and will be formally awarded at a ceremony at a later date. The honorary Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) has been conferred “for services to the teaching, performance and accessibility of Indian classical arts in the UK”.</p>

<p>Before the pandemic, it had nearly 900 students enrolled for its classes and while that number has been dropped due to a switch to online classes, its chief is confident of a boost in the coming months.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The chief said that British-Indian and British youth are growing interest&nbsp;in learning more about the Indian arts and culture.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Our centre is not just for Indians or the Indian diaspora but anyone and everyone because we operate on Gandhian principles. In fact, our Yoga class has 95 per cent European students and all other classes also have a similarly mixed appeal,” said Dr Nandakumara, known to his pupils as Nandaji.</p>

<p>Dr Nandakumara’s association with the Bhavan dates back to the 1970s when he joined as a Sanskrit teacher while completing his PhD at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London. He has been its Executive Director since 1995.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Currently on a six-day state visit to the US,&nbsp;South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol left everyone stunned after he belted out his own rendition of&nbsp;Don McClean’s classic song, “American Pie" during a White House state dinner on Wednesday. The impromptu performance has now gone viral on social media and shows US President Joe Biden expressing his utmost amazement at Yoon's talent.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The event was staged at the&nbsp;state dining room where the Broadway stars&nbsp;Norm Lewis, Lea Salonga and Jessia Vosk sang songs, including the hits from&nbsp;"Les Miserables" and "Funny Girl".</p>

<p>After the culmination of their performances, Biden pulled Yoon to the stage and said, "We know this is one of your favorite songs, 'American Pie.'" To which Yoon replied, "Yes, that's true," adding that he had loved the McLean song, released way back in 1971 when he was at school.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Being the cheerful host, Biden egged on his counterpart to sing the song.&nbsp;"We want to hear you sing it."</p>

<p>Offering a token resistance, Yoon said, "It's been a while but..." and took the microphone in his hands, preparing to sing.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As soon as Yoon hit the first note, the audience gathered in the hall erupted in rapturous applause and the 62-year-old continued&nbsp;the song. Apart from Biden, first lady Jill Biden also appeared mesmerised by Yoon's singing as she applauded heartily.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After a minute of singing with only a piano accompanying his voice, Yoon stepped away as the crowd gave him a standing ovation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I had no damn idea you could sing,” a surprised Biden told Yoon after the performance, adding, "Don’t expect me to sing it!"</p>
