<p>Air India has made the headlines once again, this time for a pilot treating the cockpit as his living room and 'entertaining' a female friend. The incident happened on international flight AI 915 from Dubai to Delhi on February 27th. As per an HT report, the pilot not only mistreated the cabin crew but also endangered the passengers with his actions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>India's aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is currently investigating the complaint filed by a member of the cabin crew.</p>

<p>The pilot allegedly wanted the cabin crew to make sure that the cockpit, a.k.a., the control centre for the aeroplane, appeared welcoming to his guest.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per the complaint, the whole flight was wrought with problems. To start with, the pilots were late;&nbsp;they didn't show up at their reporting time and instead entered the aeroplane late, with the passengers.</p>

<p>Then the pilot against whom the complaint has been filed made demands for a seat upgrade for his friend and when that wasn't available asked for her to be seated in the cockpit. The guest was eventually seated in the first observer seat, which goes against&nbsp;DGCA safety norms.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to DGCA's Civil Aviation Regulations (CAR): "An employee of the aircraft operator, who has the permission of the pilot-in-command (PIC) and whose duties are such that his/ her entry into the cockpit is necessary for the safe operation of the aircraft can only be allowed in the cockpit provided they have done the mandatory BA tests."</p>

<p>DCGA said that it was "looking at the technical and safety aspects involved in the matter." Air India too has launched an investigation&nbsp;and has "constituted a committee to investigate the issues raised."</p>

<p>Straight out of a slick Hollywood heist movie, two burglars in the US state of Washington managed to break into an Apple store and steal as many as 436 units of iPhones, costing approximately $500,000.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The incident transpired at the Apple Store in the Alderwood Mall, Seattle when the facility was closed. The thieves did their homework and managed to sneak in by cutting a hole in the bathroom wall of a coffee shop next door to enter the backroom of the Apple store. The clever manoeuvre allowed the burglars to bypass Apple's security system.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Apple security team as well as the shop employees had no information about the stolen merchandise until they arrived for work the next day.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Lynwood Police confirmed that apart from the iPhones, Apple merchandise worth thousands of dollars was also stolen by the crafty thieves.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Approximately 436 iPhones in total were taken out of the back. As of right now, no [fingerprints] have been found and the subjects entered wearing masks,” Lynwood Police Department Communications Manager Maren McKay was quoted as saying by Fox News.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“No arrests have been made at this point, but detectives are currently investigating any information and leads.”</p>

<p>Eric Marks, the regional retail manager of the Coffee shop expressed surprise at the robbery and said even he did not know that the shop was adjacent to the Apple store.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“[It was a] 24-by-18 hole cut in the wall into what appears to be the back room of the Apple Store. I’m surprised we were the conduit for them to get to the Apple Store. I had no clue we were so close or adjacent to them," Marks was quoted as saying by Seattle's local news channel, King 5 News.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Our front door was locked. They pried our front door open,” said Marks, adding that the break-in will cost the store around $2,000 in repairs.&nbsp;</p>

USA: Teacher arrested for encouraging students to fight inside classroom

<p><meta name="uuid" content="uuidFl8QTzHAtqSD" /><meta charset="utf-8" />Lin Hui, a 21-year-old giant panda who became a country favourite in Thailand died on Wednesday at the Chiang Mai Zoo in Chiang Mai province - six months before she was due to return home in China. Lin was sent to Thailand on a long-term loan from China as part of the 'panda' diplomacy programme.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The cause of Lin's death is not immediately clear but according to Thai media, she became ill on Tuesday morning as her nose was seen bleeding when she laid down after a meal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Wutthichai Muangmun, the zoo director stated that she was rushed to a joint Thai-Chinese veterinarian team but her condition deteriorated and she died early Wednesday morning. Muangmun informed that the zoo had a $435,000 insurance policy in the name of Lin.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“China is saddened by the death of the giant panda Lin Hui,” Wang Wenbin, a foreign ministry spokesperson, said in Beijing.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He added that China “immediately organised experts to guide the Thai side to carry out rescue work through video link" after hearing about Lin's health but unfortunately, it could not be enough. Beijing has stated that a team of experts will be constituted to carry out a joint investigation into the cause of Lin's death.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A British man died of alcohol poisoning after being given 22 shots at a Polish strip club. The&nbsp;victim is a 36-year-old man identified as Mark C. He was reportedly already drunk when he entered the Wild Night Club in Krakow. The club lured Mark and his friend into the club by offering free entry. Investigators say that the club forced him into having the shots after he initially refused to have any more alcohol.</p>

<p>The club gave him around two dozen shots within 90 minutes, following which he collapsed and died. The staff at the club then robbed him of 2,200 Polish złoty (Rs 42,816) in cash. Mark was found to have an alcohol level of around 0.4 per cent at the time of his death. An alcohol level of 0.3 per cent normally leads to alcohol poisoning.</p>

<p>The incident happened way back in 2017, and Polish authorities have only recently charged 58 people in the case. They are accused of being part of an organised crime group that led to the tourist's death. Several more nightclubs were also raided in connection with the case and over 700 criminal charges have been filed against the group.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Polish police said that "one of the leads investigated" is about how the victim was driven to a state of intoxication, due to which he lost consciousness and later died. He was also not given any medical assistance during the incident.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Polish Central Police Investigation Bureau (CBSP) said that the clubs were running a racket under which they would get the customer drunk and afterwards took advantage of their "mental and physical condition" to make payments using cards or other means for services allegedly offered by the clubs.</p>

Chinese female acrobat falls to death during performance with her husband; video goes viral

<p>A Germany-based artist has refused a much-coveted photography award after admitting he generated the prize-winning image using artificial intelligence (AI). Boris Eldagsen said on his website that he was not accepting the prize he had won for the 'creative open' category at the Sony world photography awards held last week.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The image showed two women from different generations in black and white.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Thank you for selecting my image and making this a historic moment, as it is the first AI-generated image to win in a prestigious international PHOTOGRAPHY competition.</p>

<p>"How many of you knew or suspected that it was AI generated? Something about this doesn’t feel right, does it? AI images and photography should not compete with each other in an award like this. They are different entities. AI is not photography. Therefore I will not accept the award," Eldagsen said.&nbsp;</p>

With my refusal of the award I hope to speed up this debate," the German artist said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Eldagsen suggested donating the prize to the foto-festival in Odesa in war-torn Ukraine.&nbsp;</p>

<p>His refusal and admission come amid an increasing debate on AI.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to a report by The Guardian on Monday (April 17), a spokesperson for the World Photography Organisation said that Eldagsen confirmed the co-creation of the image using AI to them before he was announced as the winner.</p>

<p>“In our correspondence, he (Eldagsen) explained how following ‘two decades of photography, my artistic focus has shifted more to exploring creative possibilities of AI generators’ and further emphasising the image heavily relies on his ‘wealth of photographic knowledge’.</p>

<p>"As per the rules of the competition, the photographers provide the warranties of their entry," the spokesperson said, as per the report.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The spokesperson said that the creative category of the open competition welcomed various experimental approaches to image making "from cyanotypes and rayographs to cutting-edge digital practices".</p>

<p>Following correspondence with Eldagsen, the organisation felt his entry fulfilled the criteria for this category and the organisation was supportive of his participation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The spokesperson also said that now the German artist declined the award, the organisation suspended its activities with him. Following correspondence with Eldagsen, the organisation felt his entry fulfilled the criteria for this category and the organisation was supportive of his participation. <p>As of the last update, Chaney's petition had received over 4,000 signatures as she tagged United States Department of Transportation (USDT), Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and&nbsp;Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as the concerned authorities.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chaney stated that she and her partner have had to experience discrimination and uncomfortable glances from the passengers when flying. She said her fiancé was subjected to hateful comments during a flight from Pasco to Denver which takes over two hours.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chaney added that on another flight she was forced to sit on a seat with immovable armrests that caused her bruises.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Being forced to occupy only one seat can result in pain and vulnerability to poor treatment from fellow passengers, including hateful comments, disapproving looks, and even refusal to sit next to them. <p>Wolverines were thought to be a thing of the past. But recent confirmed sightings of the sharp-clawed creature in Oregon have piqued curiosity in and around the state. At least two such sightings have been reported since the last month, although it isn't clear if the same wolverine was seen both times. This is the first time that the wolverine has been documented in the state since 1969, wildlife officials say.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a video captured by a bystander and posted by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, a wolverine can be seen dashing down a snowy hill. It then moves across a busy two-lane mountain road where a few seconds later a tractor-trailer zooms by.</p>

<p>The Wolverine in Oregon was seen and captured on camera on April 6 by a local. Biologists of the Oregon agency later confirmed that the animal was a wolverine and tracked its footprints off Highway 20 in the Cascade Range.</p>

<p>This is not the first time that a wolverine has been spotted in Oregon in recent times. The department said in a news release that two people fishing on the Columbia River near Portland had also spotted a wolverine on March 20 this year. It was later seen several times in the following days in southern parts of the city.</p>

<p>The department says since long-distance travel is pretty common for a wolverine, it could be the same one seen in Portland. The mountain region in Oregon where the wolverine was seen is roughly 136 miles southeast of Portland. Wolverines are known for their endurance and strength and when searching for a new territory, can cover 30 miles per day.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Before this, a wolverine was seen outside of the Wallowas, a mountain range in Oregon's northeast, in 2022. Besides this, the last time a wolverine was spotted in the state was in 1969. A trapper killed one in the Cascades, the department said.</p>

<p>Wolverines have been placed on the list of threatened and endangered species in Oregon.</p>

The department said in a news release that two people fishing on the Columbia River near Portland had also spotted a wolverine on March 20 this year. It was later seen several times in the following days in southern parts of the city. The department says since long-distance travel is pretty common for a wolverine, it could be the same one seen in Portland. The mountain region in Oregon where the wolverine was seen is roughly 136 miles southeast of Portland. Wolverines are known for their endurance and strength and when searching for a new territory, can cover 30 miles per day. Before this, a wolverine was seen outside of the Wallowas, a mountain range in Oregon's northeast, in 2022. Besides this, the last time a wolverine was spotted in the state was in 1969. A trapper killed one in the Cascades, the department said. Wolverines have been placed on the list of threatened and endangered species in Oregon. <p>A female bear named JJ4 who had been sentenced to death for killing a trail runner last week has been granted a stay on the execution. The killer bear was to be 'tracked and euthanised' but the decision was overturned after animal rights groups successfully intervened.&nbsp;</p>

<p>26-year-old Andrea Papi was mauled by a bear last week when he went running near his village, Caldes, in north-east Italy’s Trentino region. After Papi did not return home, his family raised the alarm and the search and rescue team was pressed into service.&nbsp;</p>

<p>His body was found overnight with deep wounds to the neck, arms and chest. DNA samples were found on a stick at the scene which Papi apparently used to defend himself but to no avail. However, the authorities, upon investigating the scene and Papi's clothes, concluded that it was the job of 17-year-old JJ4. The autopsy confirmed the theory as well.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Trento governor orders putting down the bear</strong></h2>

<p>Afterwards, Trento Governor Maurizio Fugatti signed an order to euthanise the bear. However, Italian Anti Vivisection League&nbsp;(LAV), an animal rights campaign group, protested the decision and went to a regional court and petitioned to impose a stay.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The tribunal of Trento eventually agreed and the bear was granted a reprieve. LAV took to its Twitter account to celebrate the decision by posting a picture of a baby bear and its mother.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The order has been suspended by the regional tribunal which accepted our requests," LAV tweeted.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Her employer reportedly argued that Li's claims of overtime were unfounded and said that the work did not qualify as such. They said that employees only had to reply to "occasional questions" from staff.</p>

<p>The ruling is seen as a victory for workers' rights in China, where labour laws as per the report are often poorly enforced, and employees are vulnerable to exploitation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Britain's biggest rollercoaster 'broke down' this week following which the petrified adventure-lovers walked down the steep slope.&nbsp;The rollercoaster, called 'The Big One', is located at Pleasure Beach ground of Blackpool, about 450 km northwest of London.</p>

<p>The Big One at Blackpool's Pleasure Beach ground to a halt on Tuesday (April 11) at around 2.50 pm. The halt was attributed by the authorities to bad weather conditions. The ride was then closed for the rest of the day, reportedly due to high winds.</p>

<p>A photo taken by a person present at the spot&nbsp;shows a queue of people making their way down the narrow steps which run alongside the track.</p>

<p>The Big One, formerly known as the Pepsi Max Big One, is 235ft high and first opened to the public nearly three decades ago&nbsp;in 1994. <p>In what comes as a bizarre turn of events, a man dressed as a woman managed to cheat his way through a Chess Championship in the African country of Kenya. The man registered himself under the name Millicent Awuor, wore a 'niqab' and managed to take the mickey out of everyone at the tournament before getting caught.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The impostor managed to keep up his act and stormed through the first few rounds. According to the organisers, to keep his identity hidden, the player wore a niqab each day, which left his glasses and eyes visible only. Even during the registration process, he didn't utter a word and only scribbled on the paper during matches.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The tournament executives of the Kenya Open were apprehensive of the said participant but refused to intervene thinking she was an orthodox Muslim woman.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the lid was blown open after Awuor defeated former national champion Gloria Jumba and Ugandan top player Ampaira Shakira. Chief arbiter Antony Kionga stated that as the tournament progressed, both players and his staff noticed that the person in question seemed suspicious. The player had an odd walking style and wore shoes commonly used by men.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Afterwards, Kionga decided to take action and called the 'niqab-clad' woman to a private room and demanded an identification document. No sooner did Kionga ask for the documents, the impostor broke down and admitted to his wrongdoing.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The man, later identified as Stanley Omondi, said he was a university student, desperate for money and that's why he took to cheating.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The reason was due to financial needs but I deeply regret my action and [am] ready to accept all consequences," he wrote in a letter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Omondi had an international rating nearing 1500 and a blitz rating close to 1750. He has been booted out of the tournament while his points have&nbsp;been awarded to the opponents.&nbsp;</p>

The scientists discovered a hydrogen-consuming enzyme from a common soil bacterium that uses the atmosphere as an energy source to generate electrical current.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Led by Monash’s Dr Rhys Grinter, PhD student Ashleigh Kropp, and Professor Chris Greening, from the Biomedicine Discovery Institute, the research findings were published in the new edition of the journal Nature.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Hydrogen gas scavenger</strong></h2>

<p>The enzyme discovered is called Huc (pronounced “Huck”) and is made by Mycobacterium smegmatis bacteria, allowing it to survive in harsh conditions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“We’ve known for some time that bacteria can use the trace hydrogen in the air as a source of energy to help them grow and survive, including in Antarctic soils, volcanic craters, and deep in the ocean," said Professor Rhys Grinter.</p>

<p>Huc acts as a hydrogen gas scavenger, devouring the gas below atmospheric levels to produce its magic.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Huc is extremely effective. Unlike all other known enzymes and chemical catalysts, it uses hydrogen at amounts below atmospheric levels – as little as 0.00005 per cent of the air we breathe," added Grinter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably,&nbsp;Mycobacterium smegmatis was discovered in 1985 by Sigmund&nbsp;Lustgarten, an Austrian doctor who was looking into skin diseases. The particular bacterium resides in the soil and is relatively unharmful - not causing any disease.&nbsp; It has been well-studied due to its use as a model&nbsp;for organism&nbsp;for tuberculosis.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Grinter explained that to separate Huc from&nbsp;M. smegmatis, they had to develop a series of new methods, which included growing the bacteria from scratch and later breaking them open and using chemistry to isolate the single component.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Getting down to the brass tacks, the scientists said the early applications of Huc include powering small air-powered devices which could act as an alternative to solar-powered devices.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The next step involved is to scale up the production so that Huc can be produced in sufficient quantities to be used at a meaningful scale.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Once we produce Huc in sufficient quantities, the sky is quite literally the limit for using it to produce clean energy," said Grinter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The hearing has&nbsp;been scheduled to address the growing concerns surrounding the allegedly growing UAP incidents. The lawmakers are also expected to bat for increased transparency and funding for investigation into the UAP sightings.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In May 2022, Ronald Moultrie and Scott Bray, two top officials of the Pentagon appeared before the US House of Representatives intelligence subcommittee and showed the declassified UFO videos.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the US Navy, responding to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request last year, announced that it will not be releasing any more unseen UFO videos in public domain as it will harm national security.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The release of this information will harm national security as it may provide adversaries valuable information regarding Department of Defense/Navy operations, vulnerabilities, and/or capabilities. No portions of the videos can be segregated for release,” said Gregory Cason, deputy director of the Navy's FOIA office.&nbsp;</p>

Lawmakers demand funding The announcement comes in the backdrop of Democrat Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, the chair of AARO publicly slamming the Department of Defence for not providing funds for a second year in running. "The lack of full funding for AARO is a significant concern. We need to ensure that our government is taking the UAP issue seriously and dedicating the necessary resources to improve our understanding and response capabilities," Gillibrand was quoted as saying by Roswell Daily Record. His two elder brothers had already surrendered in a UP court. As per a report by DNA, Asad Ahmed had taken over the charge of his father’s gang last August.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A CCTV footage had emerged earlier in which Asad Ahmed was seen fatally shooting Umesh Pal,&nbsp;a primary witness in Raju Pal murder case, in which Atiq Ahmed is the main accused. It is believed that Asad took instructions from his jailed father and uncle Ashraf to kill Umesh Pal. In the CCTV footage, he was seen coming out of his SUV car and shooting incessantly at Umesh Pal.</p>

<h2><strong>Umesh Pal’s wife lodged a case against Asad Ahmed</strong></h2>

<p>Umesh Pal’s wife Jaya Pal had lodged an FIR against Atiq Ahmed, Ashraf, Asad, and Ghulam following her husband’s murder. UP police filed separate cases against the accused under sections that deal with riots, homicide, and criminal intimidation.</p>

<h2><strong>UP Chief Minister lauds UPSTF</strong></h2>

<p>CM Yogi Adityanath commended the UP STF for the big accomplishment. He has been presented with a detailed report about the case.</p>
