<p>A wristwatch once owned by China's last emperor attracted more than USD 5&nbsp;million in an auction in Hong Kong on Tuesday (May 23). The Patek Philippe watch is a Ref 96 Quantieme Lune timepiece. It boasts a crown-like moon phase. It originally belonged to Aisin-Gioro Puyi, the last monarch of China's Qing dynasty.</p>

<p>Crowned emperor at the age of two in 1908, Puyi was immortalised by Bernardo Bertolucci's Oscar-winning film but left a mixed legacy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After more than 20 years, he was installed as the puppet leader of Japanese-controlled Manchuria. He was captured in 1945 after the fall of Japan in the Second World War and taken to a Soviet prison camp.&nbsp;</p>

<p>British auction house Phillips said it had documentation that showed Puyi had brought the watch with him to the camp.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Those records included "the highest result of any Patek Philippe reference 96 ever sold", according to a news release.</p>

<h2><strong>First 'complication' wristwatch</strong></h2>

<p>The Ref 96 -- austere compared to the usual luxury pieces on sale in auction houses -- was the first complication wristwatch serially produced by Patek Philippe. Perazzi said that there were currently only "three examples known" in the world.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per memoirs of Aisin-Gioro Yuyuan, nephew of Puyi, the watch was a 'personal item of the deposed emperor. He passed it to his Russian interpreter Georgy Permyakov for safekeeping when he left the prison camp.</p>

<p>More than 20 years ago, Russell Working, a journalist who interviewed Permyakov, told AFP that the interpreter, in his advanced age then, had no idea about the value of the timepiece when he pulled it from his drawer.</p>

<p>"To have this one surface all of a sudden after all these years, it was like a treasure chest washing up on the beach," said Working, who was part of the auction house's research team.</p>

<p>Another item was auctioned other than the watch. It was a red paper fan, inscribed with a poem by Puyi dedicated to my comrade Permyakov. It fetched USD 77,800, which was six times the estimate before the sale.</p>

<p>Puyi's watch, while historically significant, is far from the most expensive timepiece ever sold on the auction block.</p>

<p>A Patek Philippe "Grandmaster Chime" sold for $31 million in 2019. It is said to be the most complex timepiece the luxury watchmaker has ever created, with 20 complications.</p>

What makes Byakuya, world's most expensive ice cream, cost over $6,000 per serving?

<p>Pale Male, a red-tailed hawk and the celebrity bird of Manhattan city passed away after nesting above Fifth Avenue for three decades. He was believed to be 33 years old. Throughout his life, the hawk inspired several news articles, documentaries and even a PBS television special.</p>

<p>The sad news was announced by wildlife rehabilitator Bobby Horvath via Facebook. He discovered Pale Male ill and grounded, in Central Park. Despite his efforts to save him, including giving him a trip to the vet and meals, the famed bird couldn't survive, he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We hoped for any improvement, but sadly it was not meant to be."</p>

<p>Many birdwatchers, tourists and New Yorkers were captivated by Pale Male since his first arrival in Central Park in 1991 as&nbsp;a juvenile.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>When did Pale Male become famous?</strong></h2>

<p>Pale Male's celebrity status went beyond birdwatchers after he and his mate were ousted from the Fifth Avenue residence in 2004. He had been building a nest at the 12-floor luxury apartment. But the co-op board voted to move the nest, which led to widespread outrage among New Yorkers. The then Mayor Tyler Moore, a resident of the building, also protested the decision, which led to its reversal and addition of a metal "cradle" to support future nests.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After the upheaval, the hawk returned and rebuilt his nest and continued to live with his mate. They produced their offspring and by 2010, he sired some 23 chicks, and experts claimed all hawks in the city were related to him.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a tragic incident, a California man was killed after a car mowed him while assisting a family of ducks cross a busy highway.</p>

<p>The incident took place&nbsp;at Stanford Ranch Road and Park Drive in the city of Rocklin in the evening when 41-year-old Casey Rivara, identified as the victim, got out of his car and wore the good samaritan hat.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to William Wimsatt, a 12-year-old boy who witnessed the kind gesture of&nbsp;Rivara, everyone was applauding him for the act.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“He got out of the car and was shooing the ducks and everyone was clapping because he was being really nice,” said Wimsatt.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“He helped them get up over the curb because all the little baby duckies were having trouble and then he walked in front of our car,” the boy recounted.</p>

<p>After the ducks were safely chaperoned by Rivara to the other side of the road, the onlookers appreciated him. However, it was at this moment, a car seemingly came out of nowhere and&nbsp;struck Rivara, which left him dead on the spot.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I didn’t see the car actually hit him. All I remember is the sound and then him flying across the intersection.&nbsp;His shoes and one of his socks were right in front of our car.”</p>

<p>According to reports, Rivara&nbsp;was hit by a 17-year-old female driver while his teenage child watched from the family car. The police said the teen remained at the scene after the incident and is helping the authorities with the investigation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It has been reported that the thefts are easy to pull off because many Kia and Hundai cars, manufactured between 2015-19 do not have electronic immobilisers that prevent the thieves from bypassing the security system.</p>

<h2><strong>How many cars have been stolen?</strong></h2>

<p>There is no exact number known of cars that have been stolen as a direct consequence of the 'theft challenge'. However, the settlement covers about 9 million US owners and includes up to USD 145 million for out-of pocket losses for consumers who had their cars stolen, said Reuters.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Other related expenses such as car rental, taxi or other transportation costs that were not covered by insurance were reportedly also part of the settlement.</p>

<p>Owners can get reimbursed for towing costs and for stolen vehicles that suffered crashes or were never recovered, as well as payments for tickets or other penalties or fines incurred arising from a stolen vehicle.</p>

<h2><strong>What are the carmakers saying?</strong></h2>

<p>Hyundai and Kia said they will compensate owners "who incurred theft-related vehicle losses or damage in addition to reimbursement for insurance deductibles, increased insurance premiums, and other theft-related losses."</p>

<p>For customers whose vehicles cannot accommodate security software upgrades, the Korean automakers will provide up to $300 for the purchase of steering wheel locks and other theft deterrent or prevention devices.</p>

<p>"The settlement will provide benefits as soon as possible to those who have suffered out-of-pocket losses," said Steve Berman, a lawyer representing owners.</p>

"I remember waking up after the transplant and thinking 'Oh my goodness I am actually a new person'. I remember doing a little double thumbs up dance to my family and saying 'I made it I made it',” she said.</p>

<p>To add new heights to the skyscraper-studded Dubai, Canadian entrepreneur Michael Henderson has proposed a $5 billion real estate project which aims at creating a moon-like resort.<br />

Henderson has envisioned building the moon's 900-foot replica atop a 100-foot building present in Dubai, a city which already boasts of the world’s tallest building as well as other architectural wonders.<br />

Henderson believes that his ambitious project, which has been named MOON and will be funded by Moon World Resorts Inc, is not that far-fetched.<br />

“We have the biggest ‘brand’ in the world,” said Henderson, while speaking to The Associated Press, as he alluded that the moon itself was his brand. “Eight billion people know our brand, and we haven’t even started yet,” he added.</p>

MOON will be placed on a pedestal-like circular building and will glow during nighttime. The project was discussed by Henderson at the Arabian Travel Market earlier in May in Dubai.</p>

<p>Moon World Resorts have already commissioned artists who have illustrated the ambitious MOON at different locations, which include Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world at a height of 2,710 feet.<br />

Some have even placed the resort at the Dubai Pearl, which is a long-dormant project and is now facing destruction near the man-made Palm Jumeirah archipelago and its unfinished sister, the Palm Jebel Ali.<br />

The Pearl and the Palm Jebel Ali are the two “white elephant” projects which have been left unfinished since the 2009 financial crisis that rocked the country and forced United Arab Emirates' Abu Dhabi to bail out Dubai with $20 billion.</p>

<p>Police in Miami are searching for a 'seductress' that allegedly drugged her date and stole his jewellery valued at $600,000. The incident as per reports took place on May 8th. The suspect has stolen multiple high-value items, including a diamond-studded watch and gold jewellery.</p>

<p>The couple, as per Daily Mail UK, met at a club called 'The Dirty Rabbit bar' in Wynwood. Later, at around 5:30 am, the man invited the 'seductress' back to his residence on NE 1st Street.</p>

<p>According to the man, they had a drink together in his apartment, and he subsequently fell asleep.</p>

<p>Upon waking up at approximately noon, the man discovered that his safe had been opened, and both the woman and the jewellery stored inside were nowhere to be found.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Authorities have described the suspect as a woman in her mid-30s, standing between 5'08" and 5'10" in height, and weighing around 140 pounds.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Surveillance footage captured at the apartment building records the woman's arrival with the man and her subsequent departure from the premises.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, when leaving the building, she was observed carrying two 'Solo cups'. The police suspect that one of the cups may have been used to drug the man, and that she carried these cups because they contained both her DNA and traces of the drug used to roofie the man.</p>

'Seductress' roofies date, steals jewellery, diamond-studded Rolex watch worth thousands of dollars

<p>A Chinese woman has been sued by a restaurant for $6,500 (Rs 5.3 lakh) as compensation for stashing her leftover food in her handbag and for wasting food by overordering, as per a report by the South China Morning Post.&nbsp;The woman visited the restaurant five times over the course of two weeks in August 2022 in the Guizhou region of southwest China, according to the restaurant manager who reviewed CCTV footage.&nbsp;</p>

<p>She covertly put leftovers into plastic bags, which she cunningly stashed in her handbag, after ordering more food than she could reasonably consume. The management asserts that this was not an isolated incidence because the woman had been frequenting the eatery regularly since March 2021.</p>

<p>Even though the cost per person was 218 yuan (about Rs 2,500), SCMP claims that Wen often bought more than 10,000 yuan (roughly Rs 1.1 lakh) worth of food, which was 10 times more than what most customers would typically consume at the buffet.&nbsp;As per reports, the restaurant has a policy in place that prohibits customers cannot take leftover food outside the premises.</p>

<p>Chen, the restaurant owner, claims that the woman also exclusively ordered pricey meals including salmon, goose liver, and sweet prawns.</p>

<p>On&nbsp;one bill, the woman paid for 140 servings of meat and dessert, as well as 45 servings of three sweet shrimps for 48 yuan (about Rs. 567) apiece and 20 servings of three salmon sashimi for 38 yuan (roughly Rs. 449 each).</p>

<p>The owner added that she had imagined herself to be a "competitive eater" like others she had seen on influencer videos and was startled to see her carrying most of the food away. The woman said that she placed an order for more food than she could eat and took the extra food home since "it would be a waste otherwise."</p>

<p>However, the restaurant owner sued her and demanded compensation of about 45,000 yuan (Rs 5.31 lakh) for the five instances in which she overindulged.</p>

A Chinese woman has been sued by a restaurant for $6,500 (Rs 5.3 lakh) as compensation for stashing her leftover food in her handbag and for wasting food by overordering, as per a report by the South China Morning Post. The woman visited the restaurant five times over the course of two weeks in August 2022 in the Guizhou region of southwest China, according to the restaurant manager who reviewed CCTV footage. She covertly put leftovers into plastic bags, which she cunningly stashed in her handbag, after ordering more food than she could reasonably consume. The management asserts that this was not an isolated incidence because the woman had been frequenting the eatery regularly since March 2021. As per reports, the restaurant has a policy in place that prohibits customers cannot take leftover food outside the premises. Chen, the restaurant owner, claims that the woman also exclusively ordered pricey meals including salmon, goose liver, and sweet prawns. On one bill, the woman paid for 140 servings of meat and dessert, as well as 45 servings of three sweet shrimps for 48 yuan (about Rs. 567) apiece and 20 servings of three salmon sashimi for 38 yuan (roughly Rs. 449 each). However, the restaurant owner sued her and demanded compensation of about 45,000 yuan (Rs 5.31 lakh) for the five instances in which she overindulged. According to SCMP, Wen paid the agreed-upon sum as well as an extra 8,000 yuan (about Rs. 94,000) to pay legal costs in light of the looming legal threat. <p>The picturesque backdrop of Austrian town, Hallstatt, filled with mountains is believed to have inspired Arendelle, the kingdom of Disney’s Frozen. So, every year, millions of tourists flock to town hoping to click some selfies with the world-famous view.</p>

<p>The tourists have been thronging the town in such huge numbers that the authorities recently decided to erect a fence to stop the visitors from clicking pictures.</p>

<p>However, the action faced backlash over the social media and the fence has now been removed. The authorities had hoped that the fence would prevent tourists from gathering at one spot which is popular for taking selfies and disturbing the resident by making too much noise.</p>

<p>Hallstatt’s Mayor Alexander Scheutz has stated that he wishes to place a banner at the tourist spot which will remind tourists about the fact that people live in the area.</p>

<p>Hallstatt is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The city is filled with traditional houses against the dramatic backdrop of mountains and clear waters of Hallstatter See.</p>

<p>Before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, millions of tourists visited the town every year. Hallstatt was a popular destination, especially among tourists from East and South East Asia.</p>

<p>The town was also featured on a Korean TV show in 2006 and its replica was built in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, China in 2011. It is said that this Austrian was also the inspiration for the fictional kingdom of Arendelle which was in the famous Disney movie Frozen.</p>

<p>With the end of the pandemic era, the number of tourists has once again picked up and the town is planning to curb overtourism. Already daily limits have been introduced on the number of buses and cars that can get entry into the town by the authorities in Hallstatt.</p>

<p>The man showed clear signs of intoxication and started running when he was quizzed about the amount of drink he had. Within 20 yards of the vehicle, the man was apprehended, stated the police department.<br />

The dog was handed to a driver's acquaintance to be looked after while the suspect was imprisoned, said Springfield Police Department.<br />

The suspected man was booked into Springfield's Baca County Jail for his warrants and charged with “Driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, driving while ability impaired, driving under suspension, speeding 20 to 24 over the speed limit and resisting arrest”.</p>

Earlier this year, a businessman was ordered by a court in Velez-Malaga to pay his ex-wife €204,624.86 (around $220,318) for performing unpaid domestic labour in 25 years of their marriage based on the minimum wage.<br />

Now, the companies are bidding to lead the new project hoping that the application will soon be developed in the months ahead.</p>

<p>A British adventurer, Jamie McDonald also known as the "Adventureman" recently announced that he has set a new world record: the fastest time to visit the new Seven Wonders of the World in less than seven days.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As confirmed by the World Guinness Records, Jamie during his trip travelled across four continents and landed in nine counties, flew on 13 flights, rode 16 trains, nine buses, four trains and one toboggan to cover about 22,856 miles in 6 days, 16 hours and 14 minutes. He visited the Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal in India, Petra in Jordan, the Colosseum in Rome, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, Chichen Itza in Mexico and Machu Picchu in Peru.</p>

His next step was Brazil where he visited the awe-inspiring Christ the Redeemer. One of its kind, the colossal art deco masterpiece is the largest platform that offers a breathtaking view.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Continuing his journey, Jamie headed to Peru to visit Machu Picchu, nestled 8,000 feet above the sea levels in the Andes Mountains and finally reached his last destination- Chichen Itza in Mexico. <p>An Illinois girl who was abducted by her mother six years ago was found on Saturday, a year after her story of disappearance was featured on Netflix’s ‘Unsolved Mysteries.’ The 15-year-old girl was found alive in North Carolina, she was kidnapped when she was only nine years old.</p>

<p>“I’m overjoyed that Kayla is home safe,” the girl’s father, Ryan Iskerka said in a statement issued by the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children. “We ask for privacy as we get to know each other again and navigate this new beginning.”</p>

<p>Kayla Unbehaun was nine when she disappeared in 2017, while under the supervision of her mother, Heather Unbehaun, who did not have custody of the child. Iskerka said he was supposed to retrieve Kayla from her mother on July 5 that year but they never showed up again.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>How Illinois girl, Kayla, was found after six years?</strong></h2>

<p>As per police interviews, Unbehaun was last seen packing her belongings on the root of her car. Family members indicated that she went on a camping trip to an unknown place in Wisconsin and was expected to return for the meetup with Iskerka.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When the mother and daughter failed to show up, the family grew suspicious and contacted the police. A missing report was filed for Kayla as soon as the family members reached the police.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On the other hand, Unbehaun’s attorney declined to comment on the case. She and her family could not be reached at the phone numbers listed for them.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Kane County State’s Attorney's office issued a kidnapping warrant for Unbehaun, NBC Chicago reported.&nbsp;<br />
Kayla was placed into the custody of the North Carolina Division of Social Services. She is expected to be reunited with her family and brought back to Illinois.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report states that big businesses seem to be the most popular targets, almost two-thirds (65 per cent) of big US companies have experienced at least one attack this year. However, the smaller businesses are also not spared- 58 per cent of medium and 31 per cent of small companies suffered at least one attack this year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>These businesses aren’t just victims because they are being targeted; their brand name also gets used in attacks which tarnish their image.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Most common way to combat the online scam</strong></p>

<p>The report found that businesses and people who have been victims of these scams have three common ways of addressing it:</p>

<p>-69 per cent of the victims contact LinkedIn’s customer support</p>

<p>-66 per cent of the victims directly contact their company’s IT and cyber security department</p>

<p>-45 per cent of the victims would often talk about it on the network itself</p>
