<p>Steve added that when the police called him regarding his son, he was anticipating the call to go in another direction.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"'Are you the parent of Dillon Reeves?'" Steve Reeves recalled the police asking him. "And I said, 'Yes.' And I go 'What'd he do?' And he goes 'No, this is a good phone call. Your son is a hero. He stopped the bus.'"&nbsp;</p>

<p>While Dillon was busy accessing the situation and saving the day, other students were seemingly engrossed in their smartphones, blissfully unaware of the tragedy waiting to unfold.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I had my AirPods in,” said one student, while another added: “I was looking on my phone.”</p>

<p>After the arrest, the man was taken to the JJ Hospital in Mumbai, where he admitted that he swallowed seven pieces of gold wrapped in a plastic foil. An X-ray report conducted at the hospital confirmed his confession. He claimed to have done it to avoid the customs officials.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to doctors at JJ Hospital, they recovered nearly 240 grams of gold from the stomach of the accused. Ali was then put on a high-fibre diet to excrete gold biscuits and complete the recovery naturally.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A team headed by Dr Ajay Bhandarwar, head of the surgery department at JJ Hospital revealed,"as part of the plan, the accused was put on high-fibre diet which included consuming a dozen bananas per day. Eventually, all the seven pieces hidden in the stomach of the accused were recovered by natural means."</p>

<p>Currently, the 30-year-old is being interrogated by the authorities while further investigation is underway. The accused has been charged with the provision of the Customs Act.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Bizzare cases of smuggling in the past</strong></p>

<p>This is not the first time that someone has gone to such an extent in order to smuggle gold and other illegally-owned precious items.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a similar instance, 12 gold bars were recovered from the stomach of a Delhi-based businessman. The man, identified as a 63-year-old, arrived at a medical facility in Delhi after complaints about vomiting and constipation. Initially, the old man lied to surgeons about swallowing a plastic bottle cap after a brawl with her wife. However, after the surgical procedure, doctors found 400 grams of gold bars in his stomach, as per BBC. Later, he was investigated by authorities while the gold was confiscated by customs officers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In Karnataka, in 2021, a similar case took place, where a thief was arrested for swallowing gold ornaments. The incident took place at Sullia in Dakshina Kannada district. Police authorities recovered ornaments from a man’s stomach that he stole from a jewellery shop. The thief had developed severe abdominal pains and was rushed to a medical facility nearby. An X-ray scan located rings, ear studs, and other ornaments, weighing about 35 grams in his intestine.</p>

<p>A second jury will now sit to determine how much McDonald's USA and the franchise owner owe to the child and her mother, according to The Associated Press.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Our sympathies go out to this family for what occurred in this unfortunate incident, as we hold customer safety as one of our highest priorities,”&nbsp;McDonald’s owner-operator Brent Upchurch said in a statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“We are deeply disappointed with today’s verdict because the facts show that our restaurant in Tamarac, Florida did indeed follow those protocols when cooking and serving this Happy Meal.”</p>

<p>The incident transpired in August 2019 when&nbsp;Philana Holmes took her son and daughter to a&nbsp;Tamarac McDonald’s and bought the Happy Meals. However, she received no warning that the food might be scalding. After receiving the food from the drive-thru window, she passed it along to her daughter and son in the back seat and drove away.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Her daughter, identified in court as Olivia Caraballo, an autistic child who was four years old at the time, did not testify during the trial. However, according to&nbsp;Holmes' version, she did not realise at first why her daughter was screaming in the back. Upon pulling up into a nearby parking lot to help&nbsp;the child, she noticed the burn and&nbsp;took photos on her iPhone, which included audio clips of the child’s screams.</p>

<p>Both the photo and the audio were presented during the trial. The attorneys representing the fast-food giant, however, argued that food had to be hot to avoid&nbsp;salmonella poisoning. They added that&nbsp;nuggets were not meant to be pressed between a seat belt and human flesh for more than two minutes.</p>

<p>Though both sides agreed that the nugget was the cause of the burns, the family's lawyers argued that the temperature was above 93 Celsius while McDonald's said it was no more than 71 Celsius.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The latest ad campaign of coffee giant Starbucks on transgenders triggered a controversy as many users called it a promotion of the “Woke culture” and the hashtag “Boycott Starbucks” trended on Twitter.<br />

On Wednesday, a campaign was launched by the American coffeehouse chain with the title ‘it starts with your name’ to give a message of acceptance and inclusivity in society. Under the campaign, a video was shared by Starbucks India which featured a transgender woman who was meeting her parents at one of its outlets.<br />

In the video, a transgender woman with the name “Arpita” appears to be meeting her parents after a long time. The father of the woman looks upset over some situation, while the mother tries to calm him down.</p>

<p>The video was first posted from the official account of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on its Weibo account reportedly last week and the one-minute clip was later shared on Twitter by a user.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Media reports stated that the video was created by Hao Ge Ge, who is an influencer on Douyin, an video sharing app in China, similar to TikTok.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Chinese performers can be seen in the video wearing turbans and colourful clothes as seen in an Indian song from the 1990s,&nbsp;</p>

<p>The ministry's posted the video with a caption which read, "Motorcycle da da da #Police reminder: Seat belts should also be worn in the rear seats. Remember when riding a motorcycle, you can't go on the road without a helmet!"</p>

<p>The video has garnered over 1.2 million likes on the short video platform but faced massive flak from Indian users on Twitter as they labelled it racist and inappropriate.&nbsp;In the video, the performers were seen dancing, while the man can be seen asking the girl to ride on his bike.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I want to go to space and colonise Mars," she said. "If you don’t like where you are, imagine where you want to be. I see myself at NASA, so it’s worth a try."</p>

<p>What's more, last year the University of Arizona even offered the future space explorer a scholarship to study astrophysics. However, due to visa complications, she had to defer.</p>

Their population has swelled up to 60 million which has left the ecologists worried, according to an AFP&nbsp;report. They say it will be kinder to cull them than let them starve if El Nino brings with it another bout of a devastating drought.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to experts, during the last drought in Australia, kangaroos across the outback suffered a fate worse than death, dying in the most 'fateful' ways.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The last drought we estimated that 80 or 90 per cent of the kangaroos in some areas died.&nbsp;They are starving to death – going into public toilets and eating toilet paper, or lying on the road starving while their joeys are trying to feed,”&nbsp;ecologist Katherine Moseby was quoted as saying by the news agency.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"To say kangaroos are damaging the land they’ve lived on for 4 million years is simply laughable. Overgrazing by introduced sheep and cattle is the real culprit behind land degradation," said PETA.&nbsp;</p>

Zuckerberg recently won a gold and silver medal at his very first&nbsp;Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament in Redwood City, California.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The billionaire CEO took to Instagram where he talked about competing in the Jiu-Jitsu tournament and winning medals for his team.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Competed in my first jiu jitsu tournament and won some medals&nbsp;for the Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu team. Thanks to @davecamarillo @khaiwu @intense0ne for training me!" Zuckerberg wrote in the post.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The post was an instant hit as it received over 400,000 likes and almost 10,000 comments. Some high-profile celebrities such as UFC champion&nbsp;Conor McGregor as well as YouTube creator PewDiePie congratulated Zuckerberg on his achievement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Yo!!! F***ing awesome Mark," wrote McGregor, while PewDiePie added, "Damn, imagine getting zuck'ed by the zuck."</p>

<p>A little more than 10 days after the North Dakota Senate lawmakers passed a bill to ignore the pronouns the transgender students use, Republican Governor Doug Burgum on Monday signed it into legislation. Under the new law, public schools and government entities are prohibited from requiring teachers and employees to refer to transgender people by their pronouns.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Additionally, it prohibits transgender individuals from using the bathroom of their choice without prior approval from a parent or guardian. Under the law, teachers will be mandated to tell parents/guardians about their ward if they identify as transgender.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Burgum stated that the new law “largely codifies existing practices while reaffirming the First Amendment right to free speech...balancing the rights and interests of students, parents and teachers.”</p>

<p>However, opponents of the law argued that the Red state was violating students' constitutional rights. They added that children could face dangerous repercussions if an abusive parent did not approve of their gender orientation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Mandatory outing of a student’s trans identity violates their privacy rights at school – particularly for trans youth who cannot be safe at home," Cody Schuler, advocacy manager of the American Civil Liberties Union of North Dakota was quoted as saying by The Associated Press.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"And creating a supportive working and learning environment also requires treating people with dignity and respect, including – at a minimum – calling them by the name and pronouns they want to use. These are both unlawful and discriminatory practices.”</p>

USA: North Dakota implements law restricting transgender pronouns, bathroom use

<p>A recent study has shown that United Arab Emirates (UAE) is the social capital of the world. The country nearly scored the perfect score as almost all residents have a Facebook account.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The study published by Proxyrack noted the average number of social platforms used in the country and the percentage of the population that uses Facebook.</p>

<p>“With an almost perfect score of 9.55 out of 10, the UAE takes the top spot as the social media capital of the world. People in the UAE have an average of 8.2 social media platforms, the third highest in the world, joint with the Philippines. UAE also has the highest percentage of people with Facebook at over 100 per cent,” said Proxyrack.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"UAE’s estimated percentage is over 100 per cent as there are more Facebook users registered in the UAE than the population," it added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, India stood on the 19th spot with only 29 per cent of the population using Facebook but spending nearly nine hours on the internet every day.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>UAE emerges as the most connected country</strong></h2>

<p>Apart from leading the 'social media capitals' chart, UAE also topped the "most connected countries" list.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The UAE is the most connected country in the world, with a connected score of 7.53/10. The UAE ranks highly in all but one of our categories. UAE has the highest percentage of its population connected to the internet and using Facebook. However, it’s also got the most expensive internet at just over $100," read the report.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to experts, the UAE, akin to the rest of the globe has witnessed an increase in internet usage after the coronavirus pandemic. After the pandemic struck, most individuals and entrepreneurs&nbsp;were forced to take their business online and the habit has since stuck, even in their personal lives - as the rising share of social media suggested.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He disagreed with the notion that modern people and Neanderthals did not get along well. In fact, all signs point to healthy relations between the two groups.</p>

<p>Then came the third wave, and this time it seems that our ancestors did have the numbers, Slimak added.</p>

<p>“The third time they came in, modern humans did so with a really huge wave of people and began to build social networks, not with Neanderthals but with individual small separate groups of Homo sapiens in order to build a huge network throughout Europe. <p>In a bizarre incident, a passenger aboard a United Airlines flight had to be held back after attempting to jump out of the plane&nbsp;following an altercation where he allegedly punched a flight attendant.</p>

<p>The incident transpired on a flight bound for Houston, Texas from San Francisco earlier this week, just when the plane was about to take off, according to US media reports.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Naya Jimenez, one of the passengers on the flight, captured the entire incident on her camera which is now going viral on social media platforms. She claimed that the man became embittered and violent after she asked him and his wife to move out of her assigned seat.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“They had to bring in a gate attendant to try to talk to them.&nbsp;Then, he began slurring his speech a little bit,” Jimenez was quoted as saying by ABC7.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Afterwards, the out-of-control passenger proceeded to physically assault the flight attendant who was punched several times, as seen in the footage.&nbsp;</p>

For an online subscription service, such a rate is abnormally high and one that is not sustainable in the long run. According to a study, the average churn rate for subscription-based businesses stands at around 5.57 per cent.&nbsp;</p>

<p>One of the major reasons for early adopters to not stick around with the service might be Twitter's decision to disable new signups shortly after the launch. Notably, after scammers and pranksters used Twitter Blue to create havoc by changing their names to popular personalities and entities, the company was forced to press pause on the service.&nbsp;</p>
