Yashasvi Jaiswal's magnificent 124 went in vain as Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) lost to five-time winners Mumbai Indians (MI) in match 42 of the IPL 2023 edition on Sunday (April 30). In the 1000th IPL game, held at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, RR posted a mammoth 212-7 riding on Jasiwal's ton but MI rode on Cameron Green (26-ball 44), Suryakumar Yadav's 55 (29), Tilak Verma's 21-ball 29* and Tim David's 14-ball 45* to chase the score in 19.3 overs with six wickets in hand.

This became the first time that a team chased down a 200-plus total at the venue in IPL history. After the high-scoring thriller, RR captain Samson opined on Jaiswal and said at the post-match presentation, "I was expecting something special from Jaiswal. He scored 70-odd in the last game we always thought it (hundred) is round the corner."

Indian cricket thrives because of players like Yashasvi Jaiswal: Harbhajan lauds RR's centurion after MI tie

Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni feels leaking runs in the Powerplay and at the death overs eventually put pressure on his team as CSK lost to Rajasthan Royals for the second time in IPL 2023 in Jaipur on Thursday. Dhoni, whose side was on a winning spree before this game, even praised RR’s opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored a brilliant 77 and talked highly of young Matheesha Pathirana for his superb show with the ball in hand.

Rajasthan batted first, and the attacking pair of Jaiswal and Buttler made most of the conditions, hitting 86 for the first wicket, with most of the runs coming in the Powerplay overs – something MS Dhoni also addressed in the post-match presentation.

While Chennai made a comeback in the middle overs, picking up wickets and halting Rajasthan’s momentum, Dhurv Jurel and Devdutt Padikkal put their foot on the gas and helped RR breach the 200-run-mark in Jaipur for the first time in IPL history.

"It was quite a bit above par score. The reason was the first six overs, we gave away too many in the first six. At the same time, the wicket was best to bat on at that period. Then our bowlers bowled well in the middle overs but even when we were finishing, there were a few edges that went for boundaries and that actually kept adding to the score. If I just go through it, maybe there were at least five or six boundaries with edges and that had a very big impact on the score. I think they got a par-plus score and we were not able to get a good start in the first six overs," MS Dhoni said during the post-match presser.

CSK’s x-factor, Matheesha Pathirana, went for 48 runs in his four overs, including 33 from the two overs he bowled in death; however, Dhoni feels despite these numbers, the young Sri Lankan was right on top of his game and bowled well instead.

"You have to accept it because you don't look at the scorecard. What you are looking at is how the ball was delivered, where it was and where the boundary went. These things help you take better decisions and I felt his bowling was very good, it was not like he bowled badly. Yes, there will be a few deliveries where the batsmen will play the big shot but other than that I think the scorecard doesn't really reflect how well he bowled," the CSK captain added.

On the other hand, he also praised young left-handed Jaiswal, who played beautiful shots and kept the scoring rate above run-a-ball throughout his innings. MS added Yashasvi calculated the risks very well.

"Yashasvi batted really well, it was important to go after the bowlers, and I think he took calculated risks. It felt it was slightly easy with our bowlers because they had to assess as to what is a good length to bowl. As a captain, you can tell them initially that you want to be slightly on the shorter side," Dhoni said while praising young Jaiswal.

Meanwhile, despite Chennai losing to RR for the second time this season, they remain in the top three with five wins from eight matches. They will next take on Punjab Kings at home on Sunday.

CSK fall short

Asked to chase 203, CSK made a good start with Ruturaj Gaikwad as he and Devon Conway took the matters against RR bowling in the powerplays. Gaikwad was the attacking from the duo as he scored 47 off 29 while Conway (8) was shown the doors by Adam Zampa on the final ball of the powerplay. Ajinkya Rahane (15) soon followed and was not in good touch on the night and could not replicate his form.

Shivam Dube then led the charge once Gaikwad was dismissed on 47, while the likes of Ambati Rayudu (0) and Moeen Ali (23) failed to make the desired impact. With wickets falling at regular intervals, CSK were restricted to 170/6 in the 20 overs and were short of the target by 32 runs.

For RR Adam Zampa scalped three while Ravichandran Ashwin had two wickets to his name with Kuldip Yadav ending with a wicket as well.

Jaiswal leads the RR charge

After electing to bat first, RR was off to a great start. Jaiswal hit three boundaries in the first over to provide a classy start to the Royals. For the most part of the partnership, Jaiswal acted as an aggressor while Jos Buttler played as an anchor. Akash Singh leaked runs in the third over, he was hit for three fours and a six by Jaiswal.

With help of a four from Devudutt Padikkal, RR reached the 150-run mark in 16.3 overs.

IPL 2023: Yashasvi Jaiswal runs riot in Pink City with quickfire fifty against MS Dhoni's CSK

Harshal Patel held his nerves in the final over and defended 20 runs as Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Rajasthan Royals by seven runs at M Chinnaswamy in Bengaluru on Sunday.

After being asked to bat first, RCB lost captain Virat Kohli on the first-ball duck, plumed in front of Trent Boult. Ironically, this was the third time while playing on April 23rd that Kohli got out on zero on the first ball. With that, Boult also completed his 100th dismissal in the IPL. The left-arm seamer picked make-shift number 3 batter Shahbaz Ahmed on two to put the hosts under pressure.

RCB, for the second time this season, was bailed by the overseas pair of Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell, who added another century-plus stand (127 this time) for the third wicket as both also completed their fifties. While Faf departed on 62, thanks to an incredible piece of fielding and a direct hit by Yashaswi Jaiswal, the BIG SHOW Maxwell got out on 77 to his old foe, Ravi Ashwin.

Following those two wickets, RCB tumbled and couldn’t capitalise on the start they got as they could manage 189 for nine in 20 overs.

Rajasthan, who had two different chases in the past two games, didn’t begin well as they lost their star opener Jos Buttler bowled on zero. The left-handed pair of Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal then steadied the ship with a 98-run stand for the second wicket.

However, three big wickets after that, including the Sanju Samson’s, held RR back as they were left reeling at 125 for four in the 16th over.

While Dhruv Jurel and Ravi Ashwin looked like finishing the job for their team, smart bowling from Mohammed Siraj and Harshal Patel spoiled the party as they led RCB to a seven-run win over RR at home. With this win, RCB has moved to the fifth spot with four wins in seven matches.

IPL 2023: Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell and bowlers power RCB to a 7-run win over Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal played a huge role in his team win against struggling Delhi Capitals on April 8 as he hit five fours in the first over of the match itself.

Jaiswal started with pulling the first ball from Khaleel Ahmed for four before a misfield on a cut shot gave him the second boundary on the second ball. The southpaw completed the hat-trick with an exquisite drive on the off-side off the third ball. The fourth ball of the over was dot but Jaiswal hit two more fours on the last two balls to take 20 off the first over.

The over set the tone for RR as they scored 199/4 in their 20 overs, which proved too much for DC to chase down. Royals spinner, Ravi Ashwin, in a video shared by the IPL's twitter handle, interviewed Jaiswal about his innings after the match.

Ashwin, however, got cheeky and asked Jaiswal to spoke about the over which went for 444 runs. As soon as Jaiswal started speaking, Ashwin sheepishly asked again 444 runs? To which Jaiswal replied, "I don't know. I was seeing the ball clearly and I thought I should go for it."

Ashwin further asked, 'I see a lot of confidence in your batting, does it have something to do with your year with the red-ball?' Jaiswal responded positively to that, saying, "yes, I think 100 percent because I played a lot of red-ball cricket the whole year and I was able to control my emotions a lot."

IPL 2023: RR's Ravi Ashwin interviews Yashasvi Jaiswal about hitting five fours in an over vs DC - WATCH

Three wickets each to Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chahal helped Rajasthan Royals beat Delhi Capitals by 57 runs in game 11th of IPL 2023 on Saturday. While DC skipper David Warner entered record books with his 65 off 55 ball-inning, he still couldn’t see his team through in Guwahati.

Asked to bat first after losing the toss, Rajasthan Royals, for the second time in two games, got off to a flyer with both openers Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal completing a 50-run stand inside the Powerplay. More so that the young Jaiswal even hammered Khaleel Ahmed for five fours in his first over.

The pair added 98 for the first wicket as Jaiswal completed his successive fifty, scoring 60 off 31 balls this time, that included 11 fours and a six. Later, two quick wickets might have pulled things back for the hosts, they still managed to stay on top of Delhi. With an excellent cameo of 39 off 21 balls from Shimron Hetmyer and 79 off 51 deliveries from Jos Buttler, Rajasthan posted a handsome total of 199 for four in 20 overs.

Much like how they began in the first innings, RR was all over DC with the start they got in the second innings – with Trent Boult removing Prithvi Shaw and Manish Pandey out on zero in the first over. Rilee Rossouw also lost his wicket to Ravi Ashwin inside the Powerplay. Captain David Warner and right-handed batter Lalit Yadav stitched a 66-run stand for the fourth wicket, but that didn’t count for much as Delhi lost wickets in a cluster in the middle overs.

Veteran Warner kept going alone on one end as he created history by becoming the quickest (in terms of innings) and third overall batter to complete 6000 runs in IPL in his 165th inning.

In the end, he scored 65 as Delhi fell short of the target by 57 runs. With this., they lost their third game in a row and are sitting in the bottom half of the points table.

The first non-boundary run in the Royals' innings came on the third ball of the third over off Jaiswal's bat only, on Mukesh Kumar's ball who replaced Khaleel after the boundary-laden first over.

Delhi captain Warner, however, brought Khaleel back for the fourth over of the inning and the left-arm pacer corrected his lengths immediately and he gave away just 11 runs in his second over, conceding only one boundary. Royals, meanwhile, raced to 50 runs in just four overs after some belligerent batting.

Earlier, Capitals won the toss in Guwahati and chose to field. Rajasthan, however, proved the decision not impactful in the first over itself, leaving Delhi gasping for air on a hot and sunny Guwahati afternoon.

With one win and one loss in two matches, Royals currently sit at number five on points table while Delhi, after losing both their matches, are at number eight on the points table with no points to their name.

IPL 2023: UNBELIEVABLE! Jason Holder pulls off a stunner in SRH vs RR clash - Watch video

The fifth and final day of the Duleep Trophy summit clash saw a controversy emerge out. Yashasvi Jaiswal, the star performer for Ajinkya Rahane-led West Zone's big win, was asked to leave the field by his captain for disciplinary issues. The Rajasthan Royals' (RR) star was constantly chirping around and sledging the opposition batter Ravi Teja.

At first, Teja brought the matter in front of match officials, who asked Jaiswal to mend his on-field antics. Despite being warned twice by the officials, the 20-year-old continued to sledge the batter and did not pay heed to the instructions given to him. When the situation went out of hand, captain Rahane stepped in and asked his teammate to leave the field on disciplinary grounds.

After the match, in which West Zone beat South Zone by a whopping 294-run margin, Rahane explained the reason behind sending Jaiswal off the 22-yard cricket strip. Despite an opening stand of 87 between Prithvi Shaw (47, 79 balls) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (78, 163 balls), Mumbai failed to drive home the advantage on a pitch that wasn't conducive for strokeplay.

A 400-plus first-innings total will now depend on the season's highest run-getter Sarfaraz Khan (40 batting, 125 balls), who is looking good for another big knock with the dependable Shams Mulani (12 batting, 43 balls) giving him company.

While left-arm spinner Kumar Kartikeya was the tireless operator from one end, having sent down 31 overs for figures of 1 for 91, seamer Gaurav Yadav (23-5-68-0) was distinctly unlucky and the wickets column don't reflect the relentless pressure that he put on Mumbai batters, especially skipper Shaw.

In fact, it was the pressure applied by Yadav which helped nippy seamer Anubhav Agarwal (19-3-56-2) and tall off-spinner Saransh Jain (17-2-31-2) to share the bulk of the spoils, with some intelligent execution of plans.

Mumbai did enjoy the advantage during the first hour after Shaw opted to bat and, along with Jaiswal, took on the MP attack. The strategy to start with Kartikeya's slow left-arm orthodox seemed to have backfired when Jaiswal took him on and lofted him over long-on for a six.

Shaw followed suit and hit Kartikeya over long-off for a six as they added 87 for the first wicket. But while Jaiswal, with his drives and upper cuts, looked to continue from where he left in the semi-final, Shaw, despite his seven fours (at least three of them behind square) looked edgy.

Both the seamers, Anubhav and Gaurav, got some movement in the air with a nice cloud cover helping their cause. They also hit the perfect length with movement off the pitch in both directions, into and away from the batter. Both look run-of-the-mill medium pacers but are deceptively quicker than they actually look.

In fact, the best over of the first day was the 12th of the Mumbai innings when Gaurav first cut Shaw into half with a massive in-cutter and then bowled the outgoing deliveries, beating the bat as many as five times in six balls.
By the end of the over, he was in his hunches.

Jaiswal, at the other end, scored his first 30 runs in 52 balls, but then, gauging the two-paced nature of the pitch, started playing more cautiously. His next 48 runs came in another 111 deliveries. The first breakthrough came minutes before lunch break when Anubhav, who was bowling closer to the stumps, decided to move slightly wide and fired in a couple of deliveries with the angle.

While Shaw managed to defend one, the second delivery saw him play across the line and the stumps rattled.
Arman Jaffer (26 off 56 balls) looked solid till he tried a forward-defensive jab off Kartikeya, without factoring in the extra bounce, and the ball took an inside edge off his bat and Yash Dubey, at short mid-wicket, completed a diving catch.

The pitch in the second session slowed down considerably and Suved Parkar (18) paid the price when a delivery from Saransh stopped on him and the leading edge off closed bat face just lobbed up for the easiest of catches for rival captain Aditya Shrivastava.

The dismissal that was most well-planned was that of Jaiswal, who was closing in on a fourth hundred of the season.
Anubhav, who had started operating wide of the crease, started cramping the left-hander for room. As he was finding it difficult to get the boundaries, Jaiswal, without much room, tried the square cut but failed to keep it down and Dubey at gully took a sharp low catch.

Hardik Tamore (24) was living dangerously till Saransh got some drift and the delivery straightened after pitching, taking the outside edge into Rajat Patidar's hands in the first slip.

Ranji Trophy final: Yashasvi Jasiwal shines but Disciplined MP keep Mumbai at 248/5 on Day 1

Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashasvi Jaiswal decided to walk off the pitch despite being given not out by the on-field umpire during his side's clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 1st Qualifier of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Tuesday (May 24). Jaiswal was lauded by many for his actions but his decision to walk out despite being given not out left on-field umpire Bruce Oxenford surprised.

Jaiswal failed to get Rajasthan Royals off to a good start in the all-important Qualifier 1 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata after Hardik Pandya won the toss and invited the Royals to bat first in the game. Jaiswal was batting on just 3 off 8 balls when he edged a delivery from pacer Yash Dayal and was caught by GT wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha.

The incident happened in the second over of Rajasthan Royals' innings when Jaiswal was facing Dayal. He edged one to Saha but the on-field umpire Oxenford was not convinced with GT's appeal. However, Jaiswal started walking back without waiting for the umpire's decision leaving him surprised. Oxenford eventually had to raise his finger and adjudge Jaiswal out. The umpire's reaction went viral on social media.

WATCH: Umpire's reaction goes viral after Yashasvi Jaiswal walks despite being given not-out in RR vs GT clash

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal marked his return to Rajasthan Royals` playing eleven with a scintillating 68 while Shimron Hetmyer exhibited his finishing exploits in an unbeaten 31 to help the side defeat Punjab Kings by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.

After Jonny Bairstow`s 58 and Jitesh Sharma`s unbeaten 38 took Punjab to 189/5, Jaiswal shined in his comeback match of the tournament. Despite Devdutt Padikkal struggling to get going, Hetmyer ensured that Rajasthan chased down the total to successfully break their two-match losing streak and keep themselves in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs.

Jaiswal began by slamming two fours through cuts in the off-side and a glorious picked-up six over deep square leg. Jos Buttler joined the attacking party in the fourth over, launching Kagiso Rabada for a six over deep midwicket. He followed it up with three fours -- carving one through extra cover, a lap-pull over short fine leg while in air and smoked through cover. But Rabada had the last laugh, having an over-improvising Buttler caught at short third man.

Sanju Samson took over the attacking mantle after Buttler`s fall, finding luck in getting fours through edges twice while nailing other boundaries with sheer timing through point and cover. But his stay at the crease ended when he miscued to long-off off Rishi Dhawan.

Jaiswal, meanwhile, continued with his charge, heaving a four over Sandeep Sharma`s head and produced a stunning inside-out lofted six over extra cover off Rahul Chahar. Sharma came under from Jaiswal again when he carted back-to-back fours -- slapping over long-off and playing a silken late cut through third man.

Jaiswal reached his maiden fifty of the tournament in 33 balls. He then followed it up with three fours off Dhawan in the 13th over -- a smack over long-on, scoop flying over short third man and nailing drive past cover. After taking another four through reverse sweep off Chahar, Jaiswal tried to take over Arshdeep Singh but holed out to long-off, breaking the 56-run stand.

With 47 runs needed off the last five overs, Shimron Hetmyer clipped Rabada through fine leg and cracked successive boundaries in the arc between mid-wicket and long-on. Hetmyer and Padikkal took four and six respectively off Rabada to make the equation really easy for Rajasthan.

Arshdeep nailed his yorkers in a top-class 19th over and got Padikkal out with a low full toss chipped to cover. Hetmyer dispatched Chahar for a six over wide long-on and finished off the chase with a single in the same region to seal Rajasthan`s first win of the tournament in a chase.

IPL 2022: Yashasvi Jaiswal's fifty, Shimron Hetmyer's finishing exploits help RR beat by PBKS by 6 wickets

A new season will begin for both Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) camp as the two sides will square off with each other in match 5 of the ongoing IPL 2022 edition. This will also be the first-ever match to be held at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium, Pune in the 15th season of the cash-rich league.

Talking about the RR franchise, they have revamped in style after finishing the IPL 2021 edition on the seventh spot. Post the two-day mega auction, in mid-February 2022, the Sanju Samson & Co. have added more strength to the squad with the addition of Devdutt Padikkal, Shimron Hetmyer, R Ashwin, Jimmy Neesham, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Yuzvendra Chahal, Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna, etc.

Here's the predicted playing XI for RR ahead of their season-opener versus SRH:

Jos Buttler is very likely to open. Given his stature and ability to put the opposition on the back foot from ball one, he will continue to start at the top and is likely to be accompanied by Yashasvi Jaiswal or Padikkal. Jaiswal struck form in the second and final leg of IPL 2021 and, hence, can be preferred once again to open with Buttler. Padikkal has also opened for his previous franchise, i.e. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), but has played at No. 3 in his twin outings for India in the shortest format.

RR might like to remain flexible with the No. 3 spot. They might be temped to send either Samson or Padikkal depending on the situation (Samson for Buttler, Padikkal for Jaiswal, respectively). Hetmyer looks like a certain at No. 5, followed by the likes of James Neesham, Riyan Parag and the main bowlers.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) pulled off a stunning victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2021 on Saturday to remain alive in the race for playoffs with 10 points from 12 matches so far this season. Riding on half-centuries from young Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shivam Dube, RR chased down the target of 190 runs with as many as 15 balls to spare against CSK in Abu Dhabi.

It was a brilliant batting performance from the Royals, who were far from favourites after CSK posted a strong total of 189 runs, batting first on a slowish surface in Abu Dhabi. However, Jaiswal combined with his opening partner Evin Lewis to get his team off to a flyer. The young opener slammed 50 off just 21 balls laced with six fours and three sixes.

It was a sensational knock from Jaiswal, who posted a 77-run stand for the first wicket with Lewis (27 off 12 balls). The two openers took the CSK bowlers to the cleaners from the word go and set up a comfortable victory for their side. Jaiswal was elated to receive CSK skipper MS Dhoni's autograph on his bat after the match.

Jaiswal, who regards Dhoni as one of his idols, got his autograph on the same bat with which he played a match-winning knock against CSK on Saturday. In a video shared by IPL's official website, Jaiswal revealed he was happy to get his bat signed by Dhoni.

“I was thinking about looking at the wicket first, but we were chasing 190, I knew the wicket must be good. I was just looking at capitalising on the loose balls and giving my team a good start so that we are able to chase 190,” Jaiswal told Shivam Dube and Anuj Rawat in a video shared by IPL's official site post the match.

“I took signature of MS Dhoni on my bat after the match, I am really happy,” he added.

After Jaiswal's departure in the run-chase, RR skipper Sanju Samson, who scored 28 off 24 balls, combined with Dube (64 not out) to add an 89-run stand for the third wicket. Dube and Glenn Phillips (14) then took the team over the line comfortably to ensure RR remain in the race for playoffs this season.

Jaiswal, who had a tally of close to 300 runs in the one-day and T20 series combined, said it's always better to have some cricket under the belt.

"It was good practice for me before the big matches in the IPL. It had been a while I had played competitive cricket, and to play against an international team like Oman is certainly good preparation. I'm happy I could score some runs and win some matches for my team."

Jaiswal also got the chance to have a one-on-one session with his idol, batting great Sachin Tendulkar.

Speaking after joining up with the Royals' squad ahead of the IPL, as he quarantines in his hotel room in Dubai, he said, "My idol has always been Sachin Tendulkar, and I was really fortunate to have a conversation with him before the Oman tour. I was glad that Mumbai Cricket Association invited him for a session before we left from Mumbai to play against Oman."

"I was over the moon when I first heard he was going to be present there, and when I had the chance to speak to him at length, he was really humble and helped me on some skills where he thought I could improve on.

"It was good to see that a legend like him was aware of my game, and it was certainly a very happy moment for me. I can't wait to keep implementing those things in my game and express myself better on the field," he added.

Jaiswal also revealed the chats he had with another legend Kumar Sangakkara, who is the Royals director of cricket, earlier this year.

"We have had so many chats on what I can do during the game - how I should think, what my approach will be against which bowler, how I can change the tempo of the game, etc.

"I'm really fortunate to have a mentor like him. I also feel the best thing about him is that he's always willing to listen and give his time to the players," the youngster said.
