<p>Artists like Rembrandt, Leonardo da Vinci are known for their artworks that have stood the test of time and even now, after centuries, continue to fascinate people. They've been scrutinised by hundreds of thousands of people, yet even today, they sometimes throw a doozy: reveal new secrets.</p>

<p>This is exactly what happened with an enormous masterpiece called "The Night Watch". Painted in the 17th-century by artist Rembrandt, it features Dutch civilian soldiers gathered in a darkened room, preparing to march out to defend their city. However, a new research recently uncovered a secret that the painting was hiding for more than 380 years.</p>

<h2><strong>Secrets galore</strong></h2>

<p>Rembrandt is known as a master of light and shadow, and for years, the art community knew that the darks of the painting hid details and the guardsmen's bodies. However, as it turns out that is not the only thing the masterpiece was hiding.</p>

<p>This is a never-before-seen detail when it comes to Rembrandt's art. He and his contemporaries are known to use a layer of glue to stiffen the canvas before proceeding to the 'ground layer' — a base coat of the underlying pigment.</p>

When it comes to social media influencers, Dolly Singh is one of the few names that comes to mind instantly. The 29-year-old social media blogger has come a long way, from her journey as a fashion blogger with "Spill the Sass" blog to working as a junior writer. She eventually started creating videos and became the internet's favourite through her short skits. Over the years, Dolly has expanded her horizons and explored more; now she is not only a content creator but also a fashion influencer, entrepreneur, and actor. In an interview with WION, Dolly talked about her journey, her movie Thank You For Coming, shared her thoughts on the film, content creation, acting and more. Read excerpts. Q: From a shy small-town girl to becoming the poster girl of a film, how does it feel? Dolly: It feels very nice and amazing—a dream come true. So that feeling in itself is quite big and overwhelming. But it’s something that you wanted, so I've been quite happy in the last few days. The film has been released; it has been loved. I’m receiving so many messages these days and everything. So I’ve been on top of this world. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Netflix India (@netflix_in) × Q: In recent times, we have seen a rise in women-driven content. And especially, movies addressing women's pleasure and orgasm and the audience is also kind of getting comfortable watching movies on these topics? What are your views on this? Dolly: We’re heading in a good direction. As a woman, I think we all love to watch that kind of content. It is always good to see women-oriented content that talks about women's stories, women who have written them, or something like that. So, I think those kinds of stories are really for us. It's like something we seek out all the time. Right now, it's like we’re done with all the action films, done with the rom-com; we just need a girl story that the girls can relate to. So, I think I love watching such films. One of my favourite films is Lipstick Under My Burkha. What a fabulous film and what a gutsy film to make, and I think we just want to watch more of such content. So, I’m happy that such content is being made. And it needs to happen to a point, where you don’t keep calling it women-oriented or this or that. I think anytime it gets made, it will get stacked. So that tag at one point should just lose itself, and it should only be a film - that can be about a man, a woman, many men, many women, or too many people, like whatever, it should just be a film. So, I’m hoping that we reach that level, although it’s very hard to say when it will happen with the kind of trolls we also see around. So, it will take time, and I’m hoping that I live to see it. Q: I have been watching your content for a very long time. And it's a type of content that you quickly relate to. How did you manage to bring that in? Dolly: Feminism has come to me very late in life. I think it’s the same case with most of the girls out there. In the late 20s, we realise, Oh my god, women have gone through so much, and we are fighting for this and this and this, and you realise the deeper layers of everything, how patriarchy affects you so deeply, like your childhood, your adulthood, everything that triggers, and your traumas. So when I started making content, which was around the same time, in my early 20s. I always generally make content around the thoughts that I'm having at that time, even sketches, even if it's not me but a character. I like to talk about what I’m going through, so I think women's issues and, in general, anything related to women, whether it’s funny, whether you know it's stupid, or whether it’s something deep, I really like to talk about it. I always feel like my video should have some kind of message, something that people take home or think about. So I always try to do that kind of content, which I really feel for. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Dolly Singh (@dollysingh) × Q: If not content creator, then what would Dolly Singh be doing right now? Dolly: So, I told UPSC to my parents when I was young. Because I always wanted to take arts, and they (parents) would be like, Why have you taken arts? So for them, the only good reason for taking arts would be UPSC. So I just lied to them; I never wanted to, obviously. But I did my political science graduation, and then I went to the Masters in Fashion Management at NIFT. So, either I would have gone to styling full time or I would have gone into writing full time. I think it could have been writing because, over time, I feel like I would have enjoyed writing more, so I would have maybe gone into some form of writing, and who knows, from there I could have reached films. Sometimes, it has to happen, so it will happen in different ways, but I think I would like to believe that coming to films was my destiny. Q: Who is the actor you dream of sharing the screen with? Dolly: Oh wow, of course, I think Shah Rukh Khan, sharing screen space with him would be wonderful. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Dolly Singh (@dollysingh) × Q: When you started, did you have any idea that you'd make it this big? Dolly: It definitely feels unbelievable. I don’t think I would have ever thought that. I think that’s why, I’m in that zone because I've always been very full of myself in my work, and I generally hate everything I do. But it’s the first time I'm trying to realise that it might not be as big as you want it to be, and of course, every time you do something, you feel like it can be better and it can be this and that. But I think we always forget to give ourselves credit for whatever it is that we have managed to achieve. So I think in these last few months I have been in a phase where I’m very proud of whatever I’ve done, and it might not be like, Oh my god amazing, because a lot of people are doing so much and making a life out of nothing. So I think, of course, comparison vice, I might not have done too much, but I think for my personal standard, the kind of trajectory that I have given to my career. For me personally, those are very big milestones. I’m earning my own money and giving it out to my parents, so for me, those things matter a lot, and I’m feeling great about them.

Interview: Dolly Singh on her journey from a shy girl to social media star: It feels unbelievable

<p>Thrifting can at times help you find literal treasures. That is exactly what happened with a US woman. ‘Surreal’: US woman’s $3.99 vase, a thrift store find, sells for $100,000

<p>After shattering the box office records with<em> KGF</em>, Prashanth Neel is back with another magnum opus,<em> Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire </em>with <em>Rebel</em> star Prabhas playing the lead role of Deva. The release of the movie is just around the corner, and before that, many fan theories are circulating, with some speculating about a possible crossover between the two movies. After the trailer release, many fans were quick to draw comparisons between <em>KGF</em> and the <em>Salaar</em> world.</p>

<p>Addressing the same, Prithviraj said the<em> Salaar</em> is much bigger and grander than <em>KGF 2. </em>During his recent interview&nbsp;with News18, the actor said, “I understand the comparisons that are happening between Salaar and<em> KGF 2</em>. I am a big Prashant Neel fan and I would have been disappointed had I seen his next film after<em> KGF 2</em>, which opens in a tulip field in Amsterdam. It is not something that I expect from him. It is too premature for the audience because 10 minutes into Salaar people will forget all the comparisons. Salaar is much bigger and grander than<em> KGF 2.</em> The scale of the film is so huge that it can even dwarf <em>KGF 2</em>.”</p>

<p>On the probable crossover, the south star said, “Prashant has these wild ideas about how the origins of Khansaar (the world created in Salaar) and the origins of Kolar gold fields (shown in <em>KGF</em>) can come together. But it is only he who can say how these two worlds can come together. I am not aware of the universe that he wants to create.”</p>

<p>Elaborating further, the Malayalam actor said that the whole world of <em>Salaar</em> is a bit like the highly acclaimed series <em>Game Of Thrones.&nbsp;</em></p>

<p>“I remember walking on the sets of <em>Salaar </em>and literally feeling dwarfed by it. I think audiences will get the same feeling when they watch the film in theatres. I have told Prashant that the whole world of<em> Salaar </em>is a bit like <em>Game Of Thrones.</em> That’s the kind of drama and the character dynamics the film has with a lot of action. It is essentially an action entertainer with some spectacular action sequences and some of the best hero elevation moments, but what really stood out for me in the film is the drama which holds the film together,” he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The movie is going to witness a big clash with Shah Rukh Khan's <em>Dunki. </em>This is the second time Neel's film will face off with SRK's movie. Bengaluru folks take note," he wrote on X. Singh further revealed that he not only received the contaminated salad but his drink was faulty too. Making things worse, he further claimed that his request to get a full refund was also declined by the app, allowing him only a partial refund. However, Swiggy later offered Singh a full refund. In a response to Singh’s post, Swiggy called the incident ‘terrible’. The post generated much engagement on social media, with its comment box inundated with responses from users having faced similar hygiene issues. "Swiggy should blacklist the restaurant ASAP ! I've also encountered food from this restaurant that was either reheated or spoiled," wrote one user. "No surprise to me. Happened already. Worst hygiene, care and responsibility," shared another. The incident comes days after a woman shared a similar experience on social media after she ordered a bowl of chicken fried rice from another food delivery company Zomato. The woman, also from Bengaluru, had claimed that her bowl contained a dead cockroach. “Absolutely disgusted with my order! This is completely unacceptable and unhygienic. Need an immediate resolution,” she wrote in her post. (With inputs from agencies)

The entire Bachchan family showed up to show support for the megastar's granddaughter, Aaradhya Bachchan, during the annual day event at the Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Mumbai. Aaradhya's parents, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek were also present at the event and cheered loudly for their daughter. Aishwarya and Abhishek made the public appearance when rumours were rife that the couple had separated, with multiple reports claiming that Aishwarya had even stepped out of Bachchan's house. However, on Friday, the couple put an end to such rumours as they arrived together at the annual event. They were seen having a good time and seemed to be doing well in their relationship. Aishwarya's father-in-law Amitabh, her mother, Brindya Rai, and Sweta's son nephew Agastya Nanda were also there to cheer Aaradhya. At the event, Aishwarya looked stunning in a black velvet suit adorned with golden embroidery. Meanwhile, Abhishek was looking smart in the matching navy blue shirt and matching pants. Multiple videos of Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan have become viral on social media. One of the videos shows Abhishek guarding his mother-in-law and wife, Aishwarya, as they leave the event. <p>Amid the surge in popularity of AI chatbots, European non-profits AI Forensics and AlgorithmWatch has&nbsp;warned that the technology gives inaccurate answers to one of every three questions.</p>

<p>Research conducted by the European non-profit organisation&nbsp;found that AI chatbots gave false answers to basic questions, particularly while providing information related to elections.</p>

<h2><strong>Inaccuracies galore</strong></h2>

<p>The study focused on Microsoft’s Bing AI chatbot, now known as Microsoft Copilot, revealing that it provided inaccurate answers to one in three basic questions about candidates, polls, scandals, and voting in recent election cycles in Germany and Switzerland.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Similar inaccuracies were observed for questions about the 2024 US elections.</p>

<p><strong>Also read |&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/science/explained-beginning-of-an-end-human-activity-on-moon-shows-sign-of-lunar-anthropocene-669613">Explained | Humans are on the Moon and it might be the beginning of the end for our satellite</a></strong></p>

<p>Sharing their findings with The Washington Post, researchers stressed that these findings don't assert that Bing's misinformation influenced election outcomes. However, they said it does highlight concerns that AI chatbots could potentially contribute to confusion and misinformation around future elections.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Especially, as tech giants like Microsoft integrate chatbots into various products, including internet search, concerns rise about their impact on public access to reliable and transparent information.</p>

<p>"As generative AI becomes more widespread, this could affect one of the cornerstones of democracy: the access to reliable and transparent public information," says the researchers, as quoted by The Washington Post.</p>

<h2><strong>Is big tech doing anything about this?</strong></h2>

<p>Despite efforts by companies like Microsoft, OpenAI, and Google to enhance reliability by allowing chatbots to search the web and cite sources, issues persist.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Bing, even after providing sources, frequently gave answers that deviated from the information in the cited links, as per Salvatore Romano, head of research for AI Forensics.</p>

<p><strong>Also read |&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/science/jeff-bezos-says-space-colonisation-ultimately-means-to-preserve-the-planet-669969">Bezos wants humans to colonise the solar system, while Musk has his sight set on Mars</a></strong></p>

<p>The study focused on Bing because it was among the first to include sources and is widely integrated into services available in Europe.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Preliminary testing on OpenAI’s GPT-4 revealed similar inaccuracies. Notably, errors in Bing's answers were more common in languages other than English, raising concerns about the performance of US-based AI tools globally.</p>

<p>The researchers discovered factual errors in responses to questions asked in German 37 per cent of the time, compared to a 20 per cent error rate for the same questions in English.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What's the solution?</strong></h2>

Amid the surge in popularity of AI chatbots, European non-profits AI Forensics and AlgorithmWatch has warned that the technology gives inaccurate answers to one of every three questions. Research conducted by the European non-profit organisation found that AI chatbots gave false answers to basic questions, particularly while providing information related to elections. Inaccuracies galore The study focused on Microsoft’s Bing AI chatbot, now known as Microsoft Copilot, revealing that it provided inaccurate answers to one in three basic questions about candidates, polls, scandals, and voting in recent election cycles in Germany and Switzerland. Similar inaccuracies were observed for questions about the 2024 US elections. Also read | Explained | Humans are on the Moon and it might be the beginning of the end for our satellite Sharing their findings with The Washington Post, researchers stressed that these findings don't assert that Bing's misinformation influenced election outcomes. However, they said it does highlight concerns that AI chatbots could potentially contribute to confusion and misinformation around future elections. Especially, as tech giants like Microsoft integrate chatbots into various products, including internet search, concerns rise about their impact on public access to reliable and transparent information. "As generative AI becomes more widespread, this could affect one of the cornerstones of democracy: the access to reliable and transparent public information," says the researchers, as quoted by The Washington Post. Is big tech doing anything about this? Despite efforts by companies like Microsoft, OpenAI, and Google to enhance reliability by allowing chatbots to search the web and cite sources, issues persist. Bing, even after providing sources, frequently gave answers that deviated from the information in the cited links, as per Salvatore Romano, head of research for AI Forensics. Also read | Bezos wants humans to colonise the solar system, while Musk has his sight set on Mars The study focused on Bing because it was among the first to include sources and is widely integrated into services available in Europe. Preliminary testing on OpenAI’s GPT-4 revealed similar inaccuracies. Notably, errors in Bing's answers were more common in languages other than English, raising concerns about the performance of US-based AI tools globally. The researchers discovered factual errors in responses to questions asked in German 37 per cent of the time, compared to a 20 per cent error rate for the same questions in English. What's the solution? While Microsoft is working to address these issues ahead of the 2024 US elections, the researchers emphasise the need for users to verify information obtained from chatbots. "The problem is systemic, and they do not have very good tools to fix it," said Romano. Frank Shaw, Microsoft’s head of communications, said: "We are continuing to address issues and prepare our tools to perform to our expectations for the 2024 elections." "As we continue to make progress, we encourage people to use Copilot with their best judgment when viewing results. This includes verifying source materials and checking web links to learn more." However, the impact of these AI chatbots on democracy, if any, is unclear. <p>Meta Platforms used thousands of pirated books to train its AI models, alleges a new copyright lawsuit filed on Monday (Dec 11) night.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The tech giant reportedly did this despite warnings from their lawyers about the legal peril of doing so. The lawsuit as per Reuters was initially brought this summer.</p>

<h2><strong>Skipping permissions</strong></h2>

<p>Monday's filing consolidates two separate lawsuits brought against Facebook and Instagram by comedian Sarah Silverman, Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Chabon and other prominent authors. <p>Previously, their claims also said that the AI model's output also violates their copyrights. <h2><strong>What is there in the chat logs?</strong></h2>

<p>In the chat logs, as quoted in the complaint, researcher Tim Dettmers, a doctoral student at the University of Washington, describes his back-and-forth with Meta's legal department. In it, he talks about whether the use of book files as training data would be "legally OK".</p>

The official website of Celestis said the mission will "launch over 150 flight capsules containing cremated remains (ashes), DNA samples, and messages of greetings from clients worldwide on an endless journey in interplanetary space." The flight, earlier scheduled to leave on the morning of December 24, might get delayed, according to the post on X by the CEO of United Launch Alliance. Previously, Celestis has sent DNA and cremated remains into space. The company markets itself as helping families "commemorate the lives of their departed loved one" through memorial spaceflights starting at nearly $3,000. (With inputs from agencies)
