It's (still) good to be Tom Holland.

The 25-year-old actor has been all-but-singlehandedly propelling ticket sales at North American movie theatres, leading two films in the top three spots on domestic box office charts. Over the weekend, his action-adventure "Uncharted" repeated No. 1 as his comic book epic "Spider-Man: No Way Home" followed closely behind in third place.

'Uncharted,' Sony`s long-in-the-works video game adaptation, brought in $23.2 million from 4,275 domestic venues in its second weekend of release, representing a 46% decline in revenues from its opening. That brings its domestic total to $83.3 million.

A drop around 50% is standard for big-budget tentpoles, but making its hold a little more impressive, the film did not enjoy the rapturous reviews that greeted "Spider-Man: No Way Home." It helps that "Uncharted" is based on an extremely popular video game series and caters to younger males, a demographic that has been reliably going to the movies during COVID-19.

Meanwhile, another Sony blockbuster "Spider-Man: No Way Home" took the No. 3 spot with $5.7 million from 3,002 North American theaters, sliding only 23% in its 11th weekend in theaters. Since debuting on the big screen in December, the Spidey threequel has managed to stay in the top three on domestic box office charts -- a rare feat with or without an industry-altering pandemic. Through Sunday, "No Way Home" has collected an enormous $779.8 million in total. Given the movie`s stellar week-to-week holds, "Spider-Man" could soon become the third movie ever to cross $800 million at the domestic box office.

In second place, Channing Tatum`s PG-13 canine adventure "Dog" had surprisingly solid attendance levels in its sophomore outing. The road-trip buddy comedy, from MGM, earned $10.1 million from 3,827 screens over the weekend, pushing its North American tally to $30.8 million. It`s a strong result for a movie that carries a $15 million production budget. The movie, which was smartly marketed with the tagline "Don`t worry, the dog doesn`t die" in an attempt to win over anyone still reeling from the 2008 tear-jerker "Marley and Me," continues to perform in America`s heartland.

Midwestern and small-town cities have been leading ticket sales over west and east coast cities and other major domestic markets.
Two new releases, "Studio 666" and "Cyrano," failed to make a notable dent on box office charts.

"Studio 666," a horror-comedy-musical-fantasy about Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and his bandmates as they attempt to record their 10th studio album, landed in eighth place with $1.5 million from 2,306 North American theaters.

The R-rated film got mixed reviews, though several film critics admitted: "Studio 666" is at least fun to watch. Associated Press critic Jake Coyle liked the film to "a decent SNL sketch stretched to nearly two hours" and the New York Times critic at large Wesley Morris aptly described the movie as exuding "real `Scooby-Doo`-meets-`The Shining` vibes."

David A. Gross, who runs the movie consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research, called "Studio 666" an original oddity, one that was built around Dave Grohl`s and the Foo Fighters band`s popularity. "This is a weak opening, he said, noting "there aren`t many horror comedies in general" at the box office.

"Cyrano," a romantic musical drama directed by Joe Wright and starring "Game of Thrones" actor Peter Dinklage, nabbed the No. 9 spot. The well-reviewed film, based on the 2018 stage musical and Edmond Rostand`s 1987 play "Cyrano de Bergerac" about an emotionally crushing love triangle, opened in just 797 locations and grossed $1.4 million.

Nearly 60% of opening weekend audience members were female, according to exit polls. MGM will continue to expand the movie`s theatrical footprint in the coming weeks, but given its $30 million production budget, the profit margins for "Cyrano" could be more brutal than heartbreak.

Tom Holland on reuniting with Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire: 'It always seem impossible'

Andrew Garfield has opened up about what or rather who made him say a 'yes' to his cameo in 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'. Garfield along with Tobey Maquire and Tom Holland sat down for a video interview recently and discussed their recent film where three actors share screen space as the web-slinging superhero.

Garfield said he waited to be a part of the multiverse plotline till Tobey Maquire- who played the first Spider-Man on screen- said a yes.

"I was just waiting to see if Tobey (Maguire) was gonna do it, and if Tobey was gonna do it then I was like, 'Well I have no choice,' " Garfield.

"I follow Tobey to the ends of the earth. I'm a lemming for Toby," he joked, adding, "But that was sincerely a big part of it when I was approached about it."

Garfield added that once he heard the story that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and producer Amy Pascal had planned, he was even more hooked.

"The intention feels very pure here," he recalled thinking during his initial meeting. "It feels like a great creative idea and a great creative story. It wasn't like they were just asking us to come and say 'Hi' and then leave again, but have our presence be in service to Tom's journey and where he is as Peter Parker."

He admitted, "It exceeded my expectations."

The actor had a difficult time keeping mum about his cameo while promoting his film 'Tick Tick.....Boom!' During several interviews, Garfield denied being a part of the latest SPider-Man film.

Garfield didn't exactly have an easy time keeping the plot of No Way Home under wraps, given his concurrent press tour for his critically acclaimed turn as Jonathan Larson in Tick, Tick... Boom!. During several interviews, Garfield denied being part of the latest Spider-Man film.

"I definitely think I had the hardest time," he said on Wednesday, to which both Maguire and Holland agreed. Garfield said he was only able to justify lying "for the sake of that audience reaction."

Once he saw the film himself, Garfield said he was very glad that he'd been able to keep the secret.

"I watched the movie with Tobey for the first time, and I was in pieces. This is a deep movie. This isn't just a fanning service...I was torn open by the journey that Tom went on," he said.
Now that 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' has been released, we all know that actors Tobie Maguire and Andrew Garfield did play cameos in their respective Spider-Man avatars and joined Tom Holland's version of Spider-Man in the climax sequence of the film. But there was a lot of speculation about their cameos before the film had hit theatres. Even though leaked pictures featuring the three actors went viral on the internet, the cast and crew of the film were busy denying it whenever anyone asked. So much so that Andrew Garfield even lied to actress Emma Stone. Andrew Garfield on returning as Spider-Man in latest Spidey film Stone, as many would recall, had played Gwen Stacy in the 'The Amazing Spider-Man' series which featured Garfield as the web-slinging superhero. While appearing on a recent episode of Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Garfield revealed Strone had texted him several times, asking if he was in 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'. Andrew Garfield was rejected from 'The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian' for this reason “Emma kept on texting me. She was like, ‘Are you in this new Spider-Man film?’ And I was like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.’ She was like, ‘Shut up. Just tell me.’ I’m like, ‘I honestly don’t know’ — I kept it going, even with her. And then she saw it. She was like, ‘You’re a jerk,'" Andrew said. Off-screen, the two were one of the most celebrated real-life couples until their break up in 2015. The two though have remained friends post their separation. Tom Holland's ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ tops New Year’s Eve box-office Andrew and Emma starred in two Spider-Man movies — 'The Amazing Spider-Man' in 2012 and 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' in 2014.
It has been two years since veteran filmmaker Martin Scorsese commented on superhero movies, claiming that they were `not cinema`.

'Spider-Man: No Way Home' actor Tom Holland recently weighed in to defend the Marvel films. Holland recently shared his thoughts on the Oscar-winning director`s critical remarks on the genre in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

"You can ask Scorsese, `Would you want to make a Marvel movie?` but he doesn`t know what it`s like because he`s never made one," said Holland, who has also starred in movies like 'The Impossible' and 'The Devil All the Time'.

"I`ve made Marvel movies and I`ve also made movies that have been in the conversation in the world of the Oscars, and the only difference, really, is one is much more expensive than the other," he continued.

"But the way I break down the character, the way the director etches out the arc of the story and characters -- it`s all the same, just done on a different scale. So I do think they`re real art," he added.

Holland further said that his 'Avengers' costars would back him up."When you`re making these films, you know that good or bad, millions of people will see them," he explained, "whereas when you`re making a small indie film, if it`s not very good no one will watch it, so it comes with different levels of pressure."

Adding in one more difference between the two types of movies, he joked, "and there`s less Spandex in `Oscar movies.`

"Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige also told The Hollywood Reporter in the interview that he hopes award-granting bodies like the Academy Awards realise the "artistry that goes into storytelling that connects with a wide range of people on a very emotional level" with popular blockbusters."I think both of these types of films deserve recognition," he said.

Feige added, "It`s a good thing when people are in a theater and they stand up and cheer. It`s a good thing when people are wiping tears because they`re thinking back on their last 20 years of moviegoing and what it has meant to them. That, to me, is a very good thing -- the sort of thing the Academy was founded, back in the day, to recognize."
Back in 2019, Scorsese opened up to Empire about his feelings on superhero movies dominating the box office. "Honestly, the closest I can think of them -- as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances -- is theme parks," he said at the time."It isn`t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being," he added.

A month later, Scorsese wrote an op-ed for a leading media outlet further explaining and clarifying his standpoint."Some people seem to have seized on the last part of my answer as insulting, or as evidence of hatred for Marvel on my part. If anyone is intent on characterizing my words in that light, there`s nothing I can do to stand in the way," he wrote."Many franchise films are made by people of considerable talent and artistry.
'Spider-Man: No Way Home' racked up a head-spinning $253 million in US and Canadian ticket sales over the weekend, setting a pandemic record and ranking as the third-biggest debut in Hollywood history in the US even as a new COVID-19 variant spreads.

Around the globe, 'No Way Home' generated an additional $334.2 million for a worldwide weekend total of $587.2 million, according to estimates from distributor Sony Corp.
The blockbuster returns delivered a much-needed jolt to cinema companies such as AMC Entertainment, Cinemark and Cineworld that have struggled to draw crowds during the pandemic. The emergence of the Omicron variant has sparked new concerns.Read WION's review of 'Spider-Man: No way home' here
But as Broadway and New York City`s Rockettes cancelled shows and the National Football League postponed games, theaters were abuzz. Fans packed auditoriums for "No Way Home," a big-budget superhero spectacle co-produced by Sony and Walt Disney Co that is playing only in theatres.
The movie stars Tom Holland as Marvel`s web-slinging superhero and Zendaya, as his girlfriend MJ, in the third film in the Spider-Man trilogy. It also brings back stars of previous "Spider-Man" films.

"This weekend’s historic 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' results, from all over the world and in the face of many challenges, reaffirm the unmatched cultural impact that exclusive theatrical films can have," Tom Rothman, the chairman and chief executive officer of Sony Pictures Entertainment`s Motion Picture Group, said in a statement.
U.S. and Canadian ticket sales crushed the most optimistic projections from last week, when analysts deemed $200 million a long shot. "No Way Home" finished just behind "Avengers: Endgame" and "Avengers: Infinity War" and ahead of the Star Wars film "The Force Awakens."

Cinemark said ticket sales for "No Way Home" were especially strong in the United States and Latin America and on large-format screens.

Holland offered gratitude to fans. "Thank you thank you thank you and if you haven’t seen Spider-Man no way home yet ... merry Christmas and you know what to do," he wrote on Instagram.

The fact that the film concluded a popular trilogy added to its appeal, said Jeff Bock, senior media analyst at Exhibitor Relations Co, and many fans wanted to see the new installment on the opening weekend before they read spoilers on social media.

SUPERHEROES

The success underscored the continuing pull of superhero-based films at cinemas, Bock added, particularly among young people who are used to streaming movies at home.
"It reinforces the fact that superheroes are number one, and everybody else is somewhere way down below," he said.

The previous pandemic record was set by Marvel superhero film "Venom: Let There Be Carnage," which took in $90 million domestically over its first three days in October. Marvel`s "Black Widow" opened with $80 million back in May.
Other genres have struggled to lure audiences. Steven Spielberg`s remake of classic musical "West Side Story," which has earned rave reviews and Oscar nominations buzz, sold $3.4 million worth of tickets in the U.S. and Canadian market over the weekend. Its global total stands at $27.1 million after two weekends in theaters.

"It’s not a conversation that I can have without her… This isn’t my story. It’s our story," he says. "And we’ll talk about what it is when we’re ready to talk about it together."

Tom Holland starrer 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' to get an early release in India

Stardom is not easy and actor Tom Holland can vouch for that. The 25-year-old actor has been in show biz for quite a while now, however, he skyrocketed to international fame when he was cast as Peter Parker, also known as Spider-Man, in 2016's 'Captain America: Civil War'. He has since appeared in a number of other Marvel movies.

The actor though revealed that fame also led to him struggling with sleep paralysis.

A person who suffers from sleep paralysis "feels conscious but is unable to move. It occurs when a person passes between stages of wakefulness and sleep,"

"You're awake, but you can't move," Holland explained.

He said that he's often struck by a nightmare about his affliction in which he wakes up in a state of paralysis, unable to move and is surrounded by paparazzi taking pictures.

"They're all there and I'm looking for my publicist, like, 'Where is the person who's supposed to be protecting me? What's going on? And then when I am able to move again, I turn the lights on, and it's over," he recalled.

Once he realized that he's safe and alone in his room, Holland said he feels relief, but not so much that he won't "get up and look for a recording device or something that someone has put in my room."

Holland also said that he faces "cognitive dreaming" and "four out of 10 sleeps I wake up completely naked."In addition, the star deals with nightmares from time to time and shared his trick for fighting them, which was originally shared with him by his 'Spider-Man' director Jon Watts.

"Essentially, when you're asleep, your brain is working way faster than it is when it's awake," he said.Holland further explained, "If you're in a dream and you read something, say, a stop sign, and you turn around, when you look back at the stop sign it will have changed. So what you do is, and this is where it sounds stupid, you set an alarm for every hour of the day when you're awake. When the alarm goes off, you read something."

He said that after reading something simple nearby, turning away and then turning back to see that nothing has changed, he gains control over his nightmares once he is actually asleep.

"What happens is when you do it for a long time; you start to do that in your sleep. Sometimes, if I'm having a really bad dream, I'll look at a sign and go, 'Oh, I'm dreaming.' And then you have free rein to do whatever you want," Holland continued, adding, "The last time it happened to me, I was flying around the Golden Gate Bridge. It was awesome."

Tom Holland reveals he has struggled with sleep paralysis since rising to fame

Marvel dropped the first official poster of its highly anticipated film 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' on Monday. The poster features Spider-Man crouching on debris as he dodges- the film's new villain, Doctor Octopus' tentacles.

Interestingly, the poster features multiple hidden details, giving a sneak peek to fans into what's in store for them in the film.

One can spot the Green Goblin in the distance, behind Spider-Man, looking tiny, standing on his Goblin Glider, coming towards Spidey. There is also Electro’s lightning in the background, and Sandman's sand.
The teaser, which was released earlier, already shows Doctor Octopus and Electro as a part of the film but the poster now reveals that Spidey will also have to deal with Green Goblin.

This is not the first time that Tom has dedicated a social media post to his rumoured lady love.
A Marvel executive has confirmed to The Playlist that MCU will have lots on offer in the coming years as the Studios continues to focus on expanding the lineup of movies and Disney+ series.

Marvel has always been at it. It started with 2008 Iron Man when there was just a movie per year which became two occasionally. Over the years, the number of movies from Marvel continued to increase. ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Vol. 2 began the first year of three MCU films in 2017. She made the statement while teasing the future slate of the MCU to Argentinian radio station ‘221 Radio.’ Marvel Studios will have released a total of 32 films by the end of 2021, so if Alonso is right, they are already planning to double their output from the last 13 years. Emmys 2021: Israeli film 'Advocate' wins Best Documentary
