India, who have never won an Olympic medal in women's hockey, pulled level after drag-flick specialist Gurjit Kaur scored twice off penalty corners. Britain then conceded another goal that gave India a 3-2 lead going into the break, but kept fighting to turn the tables in the final leg of their Tokyo campaign. Hollie Pearne-Webb equalised in the 35th minute, while Grace Balsdon scored Britain's winning goal from a penalty corner in the last quarter.</p>

<p>The first quarter remained goalless. The Great Britain team was pressing hard but they failed to convert several chances. The Indian goalkeeper Savita Punia displayed stood like a wall in the Q1 and denied shots from Ellie Rayer and Sarah Jones in quick succession.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the second quarter, Great Britain took a 1-0 lead when Ellie Rayer found an opportunity as she drove around the back of the Indian defence from the right. Her attempted cross was put into the goal by India's Deep Grace Ekka. GB's Sarah Robertson scored again by smashing a diving backhand strike in off the left post. They got a two-goal advantage.&nbsp;</p>

<p>India also made attempts to bridge the gap and finally got a breakthrough when Gurjit scored with the help of a perfectly placed penalty corner drag-flick. Moments later, Gurjit struck again to level the score with the help of an excellent penalty corner drag-flick.&nbsp;</p>

<p>India then went to score again as Vandana found a gap between Hinch and her near post to put her team into the lead. The Q2 ended with a scoreline of 3-2 in favour of India.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It was Felix's first bronze medal of an Olympic career that has included six golds and three silver medals since her debut as a teenager at the 2004 Athens Games.</p>

<p>Her 10th Olympic medal on Friday took her one clear of Jamaican legend Merlene Ottey.</p>

<p>Felix, who could add to her collection in Saturday's 4x400m relay, described her feeling of "just joy" after the bronze.</p>

<p>"This one is very different and very special," Felix said. "It took a lot to get here.</p>

<p>Felix has made a successful return to elite track and field since giving birth to her daughter Camryn in November 2018 after a life-threatening emergency C-section.</p>

<p>She said the memory of her daughter's traumatic birth, and not knowing whether she would survive, had driven her towards her Tokyo swansong.</p>

<p>"I'm not too wrapped up in all that," she said when asked about winning her record 10th Olympic medal.</p>

<p>"The biggest thing for me was coming back. From everything that I had been through.</p>

<p>"Earlier today I just looked through some of the videos again of things that we had taped when I was in the hospital with Cammy, and my comeback, and just those really really hard moments.</p>

<p>"And that's what I tried to tap into. There was a moment when we weren't sure I was going to make it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"And here I am. I'm at the Olympic Games at 35 years old. Who could ask for more?"</p>

<p>Felix added that she had been determined to take joy from her performance on Friday regardless of where she finished.</p>

<p>"I think a lot of times I have tied my worth to what happens at these championships and I didn't want to do that this time," she said.</p>

<p>"I've been through so much and obviously I always run for gold but I just wanted to have joy no matter what happened tonight."</p>

<p>Moments after her bronze medal-winning run, Felix was able to video call family in California, including daughter Camryn.</p>

<p>"I was surprised she was awake, but we'll deal with that later," Felix said. "But it was pretty cool."</p>

<p>Previously, he had moved to the quarterfinals after just about managing to go past Kyrgyzstan's Ernazar Akmataliev in his opening bout. A timely take-down move just before the end of the first period put the Indian ahead 3-1 but Akmataliev ran Bajrang close in the second period, getting two push-out points to level the scores. Since Bajrang had the high scoring move, a two-pointer takedown, he was declared the winner on criteria.</p>

<p>Two Belarusian coaches have been stripped of their Tokyo Olympics accreditations over an alleged attempt to force a sprinter to fly home, an incident that drew international condemnation.</p>

<p>The International Olympic Committee on Friday said it had removed the accreditations of Artur Shimak and Yury Maisevich and they had left the Olympic Village.</p>

<p>The body said this week that it was investigating the pair over their role in the case of Krystsina Tsimanouskaya, who sought protection at a Tokyo airport to avoid being put on a plane home.</p>

<p>She said she feared for her life if forced back to Belarus, which has been wracked by political upheaval and a crackdown on dissent after disputed elections that returned strongman Alexander Lukashenko to power last year.</p>

<p>The alleged attempt to return Tsimanouskaya to Belarus has prompted condemnation, with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken accusing Minsk of "another act of transnational repression".</p>

Britain, who had won gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics, took a two-goal lead in the second quarter through goals by Elena Rayer and Sarah Robertson. Tokyo Olympics: From politicians to celebs, India praises 'remarkable courage' of women's hockey team

<p>India's star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu has opened up on how Prime Minister Narendra Modi helped her to reach the Tokyo Games 2020 and&nbsp;in recovering from an injury.</p>

<p>Chanu revealed that PM Modi "helped" with a ticket for the US flight in one day to train there and undergo rehabilitation. The 26-year-old won a silver medal in Weightlifting Women's 49kg category at Tokyo Games.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It's true that Prime Minister Narendra Modi helped me reach Tokyo 2020 Olympics after my injury. They booked the ticket for the flight in one day for the US to help me train there and undergo rehabilitation," Mirabai Chanu told ANI. "Sir has given me huge support for the training," added Chanu.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After winning a medal in Tokyo, Mirabai became the second Indian weightlifter to win an Olympic medal after Karnam Malleswari, who had won the Olympic medal (Bronze) while competing at the 2000 Sydney Games in the women’s 69kg weight category.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Earlier on Friday, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh revealed that PM Modi had intervened to help two of the athletes to get better medical care and training in the US before the Tokyo Olympics.</p>

<p>Speaking to ANI, the Manipur CM said when he had met the Prime Minister this week, he thanked him for helping weightlifter Mirabai Chanu.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chanu managed a total lift of 202 kgs (87kgs in snatch + 115 kgs in clean and jerk) to claim the silver medal. She finished behind Hou Zhihui of China, who set an Olympic record with a lift of 210 kgs (94+116). Indonesia’s Aisah Windy Cantika took the bronze medal with an effort of 194kg (84+110).&nbsp;</p>

<p>Just after winning silver, Chanu spoke exclusively to WION, where she had mentioned a call from PM Modi, who tweeted moments after she had won the medal. He wrote, "Congratulations to her for winning the Silver medal in weightlifting. Her success motivates every Indian." He also added that he couldn't have asked for a happier start to the Olympics 2020 and mentioned that India is elated by Chanu's "stupendous performance".&nbsp;</p>

<p>In the exclusive chat with WION, Chanu had also opened up about the moment when she stood at the podium with her silver medal. India's star weightlifter Mirabai Chanu has opened up on how Prime Minister Narendra Modi helped her to reach the Tokyo Games 2020 and in recovering from an injury. <p>Understandably she thought her career was over.</p>

<h2>WIDEN AN ARTERY</h2>

<p>"I thought so yeah, a heart attack isn't like something you have when you are an athlete," Braspennincx, who required surgery to widen an artery that had become totally blocked and also had a stent fitted, said.</p>

<p>"It was a long six months to see if I was able to get the green light to be an athlete again and even when I did it was not smooth sailing to get back to my old level and to get the trust back in my body because that had left me."</p>

<p>Her task was made slightly easier on Thursday after Britain's Katy Marchant, a medal threat, was involved in the crash that left Van Riessen in hospital and Germany's world champion Emma Hinze surprisingly failed to make the final.</p>

<p>That took nothing away from her ride though as she delivered a second gold so far this week for the Dutch track team.</p>

<p>"It was pure instinct. That's how I do it since I race keirin, I listen to my gut feeling," she said.</p>

<p>Ellesse Andrews of New Zealand was second with Canada's Lauriane Genest taking the bronze.</p>

<p>Describing his emotions as India were declared winners against <strong>Germany</strong>&nbsp;in the bronze medal match, Indian captain Manpreet,&nbsp;29, said the team was overjoyed calling it an "outstanding" performance.</p>

<p>The Indian captain said the players and the coach had tears of joy after the&nbsp;victory, India's first hockey Olympics medal in 41 years.</p>

<p>"He was just trying to be strong, saying I am not crying but actually he was crying," the Indian captain said jokingly referring to the coach.</p>

<p>"It gets in your blood and in your heart and when you mix those two together then you get what you saw today."</p>

<p>"The last 15 months haven't been easy for the team including the whole world which also plays a fairly big role," the Indian team's coach said.</p>

<p>"We haven't seen our families for a very long time and missed little things like seeing my daughter, including missing birthdays and weddings which has been sacrificed for the greater good," the coach said.</p>

<p>"It makes it easier when things like this happen," the coach said haling <strong>India's victory</strong>.</p>

<p>Goalkeeper Sreejesh reflected on India's missed opportunities earlier, but said this time, the team had the confidence to win a <strong>medal</strong>.</p>

<p>Sreejesh said even though India didn't play well against Australia, the quality of the team stood out.</p>

<p>"We <strong>bounced back</strong>, played really well although we lost in the semi-final but the team spirit came through in the end," the Olympic bronze medallist said.</p>

<p>"The team did not take too much time to bounce back, they focused on their task. In today's match as well, we went down but due to our bonding, <strong>confidence</strong> and trust between each other, it helped us to get back," he said.</p>

<p>"We just snatched the match from the Germans," the Indian goalkeeper said proudly.</p>

<p>"This is the answer to everyone's questions, those who asked us questions earlier, this is it," he said. "Just wait, do the things and results will follow," Sreejesh said while taking a swipe at the detractors.</p>

<p>"We didn't get a medal in a long time so we created history. I think it will be good for the upcoming players who can now say they too want to win a medal just like this team and they can win too and create history again," India's captain said.</p>

<p>The Indian captain said it is a big win for the game and the <strong>Indian fans</strong>.</p>

<p>The match was a cliffhanger in the end as&nbsp;Germany was given a penalty corner with just seconds to go for the match to end, however, the Indian coach informed that there were about 29 seconds to go since the officials hadn't switched the clock back on after the timeout and so the clock stayed at 29.6 seconds for a period of time</p>

<p>"It was certainly more than 6.5 seconds, I was a little bit distracted trying to get the bench to switch the clock back on and to go back and check how much time was added on but we have a great <strong>penalty corner</strong> defence unit."</p>

<p>"I knew they would all be fighting for their lives to keep the ball out of the net and sure enough they did it," the coach said with relief.</p>

<p>The Indian captain excitedly informed that India's goalkeeper will be in charge of the celebrations tonight and will organise everything.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Coach&nbsp;will do the snake dance today," the Indian goalkeeper said.</p>
