'Creepy': Rumoured underwater caves spring up from Canyon Lake in Texas

The city of El Paso, Texas, is finding itself on the brink of a crisis as an unprecedented surge of migrants floods the US-Mexico border. This humanitarian catastrophe has been exacerbated by the tragic death of an infant, along the border road near the Mariposa Port of Entry.

Giving details of this heartbreaking incident, US Customs and Border Protection said, "Early this morning, a Border Patrol Agent assigned to the U.S Border Patrol station in Nogales, AZ, encountered a mother and infant along the border road near the Mariposa Port of Entry and immediately transported them to the nearby Nogales Border Patrol station to receive medical attention."

"Upon arrival at the station, the CBP contracted-medical provider and a U.S. Border Patrol emergency medical technician began resuscitation efforts on the infant who was not breathing while awaiting the arrival of local emergency medical services. Upon arrival, local EMS personnel transported the infant to a nearby hospital where she was declared deceased," it added.

El Paso reaches 'breaking point'

Mayor Oscar Leeser said El Paso is at "a breaking point" as it struggles to cope with the daily arrival of more than 2,000 asylum seekers. He said that this large number of asylum seekers exceeds the city's shelter capacity and is stretching its resources to the limit.

"The city of El Paso only has so many resources, and we have come to... a breaking point right now," Mayor Oscar Leeser said.

Influx of Venezuelan asylum seekers

The overwhelming majority of migrants are fleeing Venezuela, contributing to the larger wave of immigrants who have undertaken treacherous journeys. The city of El Paso, Texas, is finding itself on the brink of a crisis as an unprecedented surge of migrants floods the US-Mexico border. This humanitarian catastrophe has been exacerbated by the tragic death of an infant, along the border road near the Mariposa Port of Entry. Giving details of this heartbreaking incident, US Customs and Border Protection said, "Early this morning, a Border Patrol Agent assigned to the U.S Border Patrol station in Nogales, AZ, encountered a mother and infant along the border road near the Mariposa Port of Entry and immediately transported them to the nearby Nogales Border Patrol station to receive medical attention." "Upon arrival at the station, the CBP contracted-medical provider and a U.S. Border Patrol emergency medical technician began resuscitation efforts on the infant who was not breathing while awaiting the arrival of local emergency medical services. Upon arrival, local EMS personnel transported the infant to a nearby hospital where she was declared deceased," it added. El Paso reaches 'breaking point' Mayor Oscar Leeser said El Paso is at "a breaking point" as it struggles to cope with the daily arrival of more than 2,000 asylum seekers. He said that this large number of asylum seekers exceeds the city's shelter capacity and is stretching its resources to the limit. Texas' El Paso at 'breaking point', infant dies in heartbreaking incident amid soaring migrant influx

A drought in the US state of Texas has unveiled a remarkable discovery of more than 70 dinosaur tracks previously concealed beneath the dried-out Paluxy Riverbed. The Paluxy River, typically coursing through Dinosaur Valley State Park, located roughly 90 minutes south of Dallas, is renowned for its dinosaur-related attractions, media reports said. The recently exposed tracks belong to two distinct dinosaur species. The first is a carnivorous theropod closely related to the iconic T. rex, identified as the Acrocanthosaurus. The second is a herbivorous, long-necked sauropod akin to the Brontosaurus, known as the Sauroposeidon. Sauroposeidon also happens to be the state dinosaur of Texas.

According to media reports, the Acrocanthosaurus stood at approximately 15 feet in height and weighed about seven tonnes, while the towering Sauroposeidon reached over 100 feet in height and weighed around 44 tonnes.

Shooting suspect among two killed, three injured after shooting in Texas

A woman in the United States was awarded a $1.2 billion settlement after a Texas jury ruled that she was the victim of "revenge porn". The woman from Texas who filed the lawsuit in 2022 claimed that her ex-boyfriend sent personal pictures of her to her family, friends, and coworkers via fake online accounts.

The identity of the woman has not been revealed, she went by her initials D.L. in court documents. She filed the lawsuit in Harris County against her former boyfriend Marques Jamal Jackson. The lawyers had initially requested $100 million in damages from the jurors.

She claimed in the suit that Jackson obtained the images while they were dating and posted them on social media platforms and adult websites "with the intent to embarrass, harass, torment, humiliate, and publicly shame" her. The court document revealed that they started dating in 2016.

In a statement carried by US media outlets, Bradford Gilde, the lead trial lawyer, said: "While a judgment, in this case, is unlikely to be recovered, the compensatory verdict gives DL back her good name."

Referring to the amount that was initially asked, Gilde said that "we hope the staggering amount of this verdict sends a message of deterrence and prevents others from engaging in this despicable activity."

According to the lawyer, this ruling is a symbolic win for victims of "imaged-based sexual abuse," known as "revenge porn," which is used to inflict "a combination of psychological abuse, domestic violence and sexual abuse".

Gilde said: "The punitive verdict also is the jury's plea to raise awareness of this tech-fueled national epidemic."

The lawsuit also claimed that Jackson hacked into his ex-girlfriend's mother's home security system to spy on D.L. after the two split up. It is claimed that following the breakup, Jackson was informed he could no longer use the home security system.

Cases related to revenge porn are rising in the US. Nearly all 50 states, including Texas, have approved legislation outlawing revenge porn, except Massachusetts and South Carolina. A bill to ban revenge porn was presented by Massachusetts lawmakers last year, but the legislature is currently considering it.

“Sorry y’all. I hope that I can use this experience and do a little good in the world, and that is what I intend to do,” Gomas adds. “I hope that you guys can accept my apology and I can begin to move on with my life.”

"First and foremost, I want to take full accountability for my actions. They were completely unacceptable. Distressed or not...I should have been in control of my emotions. And that was not the case," she said. "We all have our bad moments, some far worse than others. And mine happened to be caught on camera for the whole world to see multiple times," she added while controlling her tears. Gomas also apologised to the people on the plane, especially the families with children, saying her use of 'profanities' was completely unnecessary. “Sorry y’all. I hope that I can use this experience and do a little good in the world, and that is what I intend to do,” Gomas adds. “I hope that you guys can accept my apology and I can begin to move on with my life.” Viral “Not real” woman has released an apology video pic.twitter.com/8IFjzqmJMA — Dexerto (@Dexerto) August 13, 2023 × Her apology video comes nearly a week after she broke her silence and started giving media interviews. Without citing a reason or giving any explanation, Gomas started yelling, much to the confusion and amusement of the travellers. “I’m telling you, I’m getting the f–k off and there’s a reason why I’m getting the f–k off and everyone can either believe it or they can not believe it," she could be heard saying in the viral footage. “I don’t give two f–ks, but I am telling you right now – that motherf–ker back there is NOT real," she said.
A three-year-old child riding on one of US states Texas’ migrant buses died, said the officials on Friday (August 11) which is the first death reported by the state since it began its controversial measure of shuttling thousands of refugees and migrants from the United States-Mexico border last year.

What do we know?

The child’s death was confirmed by Texas officials, in a statement, but no other details about where the child was from or why they became ill were immediately released by the authorities. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, the child was three years old and died Thursday in Marion County, in the southern part of the US state.

The officials in the state of Illinois said that they are working with the health officials, state police and federal authorities to the “fullest extent possible to get answers in this tragic situation.”

“Every loss of life is a tragedy,” said the Texas Division of Emergency Management, in a statement. It added, “Once the child presented with health concerns, the bus pulled over and security personnel on board called 911 for emergency attention.”

A report by the American media outlet CBS News reported that the toddler was a girl from Venezuela. According to the Texas officials, the child received treatment from paramedics and later died at a hospital.

Texas officials said that the temperature of all passengers was taken and they were also asked about any medical conditions. The bus departed from the Texas border city of Brownsville and was heading for Chicago, Illinois.

Operation Lone Star

As a part of Texas’ Republican Governor Greg Abbott’s sprawling mission on the border, called Operation Lone Star, the state has bused more than 30,000 migrants to Democratic-controlled cities across the US since 2022.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden’s administration is also suing the state for the wrecking ball-sized buoys placed on the Rio Grande, earlier this year, which pose environmental and humanitarian concerns.

The so-called operation has also come under scrutiny amid recent reports of Texas officials separating some migrant families on the border. When asked about the toddler’s death, US Representative Henry Cuellar, a Democrat whose district includes the Texas border said he was unaware about the incident.

“You can’t use the migrants as political pawns. You still got to be accountable to taking care of them, especially if you're transporting kids,” said Cuellar. He also criticised Abbott and said that the Texas governor should work with the federal government on border security.

Texas woman caught in intense tussle between a hawk and snake, gets injured

A court in Texas, USA on Friday (August 4) issued a temporary order to support group of women and doctors who brought a lawsuit to challenge the state's abortion bans.

The ruling however, was stayed just hours later after Texas attorney general's office filed an appeal. Judge Jessica Mangrum's decision has been blocked until the lawsuit is decided on its merits in a trial slated to begin next March.

The case was filed by the Center for Reproductive Rights. It argued that the way medical exceptions are defined under Texas law is confusing. This, it said stoked fear among doctors and caused a "health crisis.

Mangrum wrote in her judgment that she agreed that the women were "delayed or denied access to abortion care because of the widespread uncertainty regarding physicians' level of discretion under the medical exception to Texas's abortion bans."

Judge Mangrum ordered that doctors can't be prosecuted for exercising their "good faith judgment."

She said that doctors should be allowed to decide what they thought constituted medical emergencies which would risk a woman's "life and/or health (including their fertility)," she said.

First Assistant Attorney General Brent Webster said in a statement that the state filed an appeal that "stays an activist Austin judge's attempt to override Texas abortion laws pending a ruling by the Texas Supreme Court."

Last month, the court in Austin, Texas heard harrowing testimony from the plaintiffs last month.

Amanda Zurawski, after whom the case is named, said she was denied an abortion despite her water breaking very early in her pregnancy, meaning a miscarriage was inevitable.

She said that her doctor told her that she "couldn't intervene, because the baby's heart was still beating and inducing labor would have been considered an illegal abortion."

Zurawski went into life-threatening septic shock and the fetus was stillborn.

This lawsuit is the first that was brought on behalf of women who were denied abortions since the Supreme Court in the US overturned a landmark judgment that previously guaranteed constitutional right to abortion.

In Texas, if a physician is found guilty of providing abortions, they may get handed up to 99-year prison sentence. In addition to this, a fine of up to USD 100,000 may be slapped and their medical license may be revoked.

US: At least six injured after man drives into migrant workers in North Carolina

Texas has taken a path-breaking step into the realm of innovative housing. The US state has unveiled the world's largest community of 3D-printed homes.

The first completed house in this groundbreaking project, which features wall "printed" using a concrete-based material, was recently showcased. This marks the beginning of a grand plan to construct 100 such homes, which will reportedly welcome residents starting September.

Wolf Ranch

The community, as per a CNN report, is part of a larger development known as Wolf Ranch.

A joint collaboration between the Texas-based construction firm ICON, homebuilding company Lennar, and Danish architecture practice Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), it is situated in Georgetown, Texas, approximately 30 miles north of the state capital, Austin.

Also read | Tech friendly: Couple moves into Europe's first 3D-Printed house

The recently revealed model home boasts bright interiors and curved gray walls, made from a concrete-based material called Lavacrete. The walls are created using 46-foot-wide robotic printers, and once those are complete, the doors, windows, and roofs — all equipped with solar panels — are installed.

As per ICON, over a third of the homes' walls have been printed. The 3D-printed homes range in size from 1,500 to 2,100 square feet and consist of three to four bedrooms and are priced between $475,000 and $599,000.

A watershed moment

The project was introduced in 2021. Back then, Jason Ballard, co-founder, and CEO of ICON, described the project as a "watershed moment in the history of community-scale development."

3D-printing, he asserted, enables the construction of high-quality homes at a faster and more affordable pace compared to conventional building methods.

Wolf Ranch The community, as per a CNN report, is part of a larger development known as Wolf Ranch. A joint collaboration between the Texas-based construction firm ICON, homebuilding company Lennar, and Danish architecture practice Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), it is situated in Georgetown, Texas, approximately 30 miles north of the state capital, Austin. Also read | Tech friendly: Couple moves into Europe's first 3D-Printed house The recently revealed model home boasts bright interiors and curved gray walls, made from a concrete-based material called Lavacrete. A watershed moment The project was introduced in 2021. Back then, Jason Ballard, co-founder, and CEO of ICON, described the project as a "watershed moment in the history of community-scale development." 3D-printing, he asserted, enables the construction of high-quality homes at a faster and more affordable pace compared to conventional building methods. The United States government has sue Texas Governor Greg Abbott over a floating barrier that was installed across the Rio Grande river and this barrier is a part of the Republican Party's tactics to prevent migrants from crossing the natural border into the United States.

US sues Texas Governor Greg Abbott over floating barriers in Austin | World DNA

The US Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against the state of Texas for placing anti-migrant buoys in the Rio Grande river, near the border with Mexico.

The department contends that these large orange buoys obstruct river navigation and lack federal permissions. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has strongly defended the installation of the buoys, arguing that he has the power to protect the state's "sovereign" interests, reported AFP.

Tensions escalate as Abbott accuses President Joe Biden of failing to enforce federal immigration laws, leading to migrants risking their lives in the treacherous waters of the Rio Grande River. The dispute reflects broader issues surrounding border security and the flow of migrants.

The controversial buoys and razor wire

Recently, a series of buoys was installed in the Rio Grande River, a popular crossing point for migrants, along with large barriers of razor wire on the shore. However, the Justice Department raises concerns about these measures posing threats to navigation, public safety, and humanitarian aspects. Reports indicate that some migrants have been entangled in the razor wire, requiring rescue operations. Moreover, a leaked memo from the US Customs and Border Protection claims that the state-placed razor wire has impeded their border patrol operations.

Abbott's defiance and accusations

Governor Abbott rebuffs the Biden administration's objections and maintains that he has the authority to safeguard Texas' interests by implementing the buoys. In a letter to President Biden, Abbott criticises the administration for not fulfilling its responsibilities to address the flow of migrants across the Mexico border. He emphasises that enforcing federal immigration laws would prevent migrants from risking their lives in the perilous waters of the Rio Grande River.

Justice department's legal action

Following Governor Abbott's defiant response, the US Justice Department takes legal action by filing a lawsuit in a federal court in Austin, Texas. The suit claims that the barrier violates the US Rivers and Harbors Act, which aims to protect public waterways under the oversight of the Army Corps of Engineers. The department asserts that Texas was required to obtain permission from the Army Corps of Engineers before placing any structure or barrier in the Rio Grande. As a result, they seek a court order to have Abbott remove the barrier.

Ensuring safety and security

Jaime Esparza, the federal prosecutor in Austin, underscores the importance of adhering to both domestic and international laws and policies to ensure the safety and security of everyone living, working, and travelling along the river. He says that these laws cannot be ignored.

The dispute between Texas and the US government highlights the complexities of border security and the challenges of handling migrant flows. It remains to be seen how the legal battle will unfold and what impact it will have on the broader issues surrounding immigration and the border region.

US: Mass shooter in El Paso Walmart attack sentenced to 90 consecutive life terms

A Texas man who was reported 'missing' eight years ago as a teenager has been found alive last week and what's bizarre is that he had been living with his mother, Santana, all along, media reports said citing Houston police officials. The man, identified as Rudolph "Rudy" Farias IV, returned home on March 8, 2015, just a day after he was reported missing. Farias' mother provided false names and dates of birth whenever she interacted with law enforcement, leading officers astray.

Deception and fake names

During a news conference, Lieutenant Christopher Zamora revealed that Farias and his mother deceived the police by insisting that he was still missing. Despite interacting with officers over the years, she continued to mislead them, causing the investigation to stagnate. It wasn't until last week that Farias was found at a Houston church, where he had been sleeping.

The discovery came more than eight years after he allegedly vanished on March 6, 2015, while walking his dogs in northwest Houston.

Current investigation

Houston Police announced on Thursday that Farias is back home with his mother. However, the district attorney has declined to press charges at this time for making fictitious reports and failure to provide identification.

Also Read | US: Man found guilty of raping, impregnating 9-year-old girl gets life sentence

However, interestingly enough, Lieutenant Zamora confirmed that the probe is still ongoing, with new leads coming in. The police department intends to follow up on these leads to shed more light on the case.

Search efforts and possible sightings

After Farias was reported missing as a teenager, extensive search efforts were conducted by the Houston police and Texas Equusearch, a civilian search and recovery team.

Despite their efforts, Farias could not be located, although his dogs were eventually found. Over the years, there were several reported sightings of Farias, as indicated by a private investigator hired by his mother shortly after his disappearance.

One such sighting in 2018 prompted a response from the police, but the case remained open as a missing person investigation.

Last week, Houston police made the surprising announcement that they had located Farias. Following the discovery, Farias was hospitalised, and on Wednesday, detectives interviewed him and his mother, Santana.

In a statement released by Santana, she mentioned that Farias is currently receiving the necessary care to address his trauma. However, she noted that he is currently "nonverbal" and unable to communicate with them.

Ongoing investigation and unanswered questions

Houston Police Chief Troy Finner refrained from providing further details regarding the mental health of Farias or his mother during a press conference on Thursday.

He also did not disclose the motives behind their actions, stating that the investigation is still in its initial stages.

Additionally, police mentioned that patrol officers responded to a burglary call at the family's residence on Wednesday night, which is now being incorporated into the overall investigation.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities hope to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Farias' disappearance and subsequent concealment.

Missing children statistics

This incident highlights the issue of missing children, with nearly 360,000 reports made to the FBI in 2022 alone, as reported by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. However, this figure may include duplicates, indicating that the actual number of missing children could be lower.

Deception and fake names During a news conference, Lieutenant Christopher Zamora revealed that Farias and his mother deceived the police by insisting that he was still missing. Current investigation Houston Police announced on Thursday that Farias is back home with his mother. However, the district attorney has declined to press charges at this time for making fictitious reports and failure to provide identification. Also Read | US: Man found guilty of raping, impregnating 9-year-old girl gets life sentence However, interestingly enough, Lieutenant Zamora confirmed that the probe is still ongoing, with new leads coming in. The police department intends to follow up on these leads to shed more light on the case. Search efforts and possible sightings After Farias was reported missing as a teenager, extensive search efforts were conducted by the Houston police and Texas Equusearch, a civilian search and recovery team. Despite their efforts, Farias could not be located, although his dogs were eventually found. Over the years, there were several reported sightings of Farias, as indicated by a private investigator hired by his mother shortly after his disappearance. Also Read | Hong Kong police arrest four men for allegedly aiding overseas activists One such sighting in 2018 prompted a response from the police, but the case remained open as a missing person investigation. Ongoing investigation and unanswered questions Houston Police Chief Troy Finner refrained from providing further details regarding the mental health of Farias or his mother during a press conference on Thursday. He also did not disclose the motives behind their actions, stating that the investigation is still in its initial stages. Watch | Russian expert claims the US is working on weaponising asteroids against their enemies × Additionally, police mentioned that patrol officers responded to a burglary call at the family's residence on Wednesday night, which is now being incorporated into the overall investigation. As the investigation unfolds, authorities hope to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Farias' disappearance and subsequent concealment. Missing children statistics This incident highlights the issue of missing children, with nearly 360,000 reports made to the FBI in 2022 alone, as reported by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. However, this figure may include duplicates, indicating that the actual number of missing children could be lower. This includes Jason John (30), Johnathan Honey (33), and Christopher Hays-Clark (30).

What did the APD say about the rumours?

“The Austin Police Department is aware of speculations regarding the recent drownings in Lady Bird Lake.
It added, “While each incident has occurred at the lake, the circumstances, exact locations, and demographics surrounding these cases vary.” The police department also said it is working closely with the TCME and that the results of the autopsies, so far, “have not revealed any trauma to the bodies nor indication of foul play.”

The statement added, “One common theme of the drownings in Austin this year is the combination of alcohol and easy access to Lady Bird Lake, which has numerous access points. Many of the access points can be challenging to see at night. The parks in which most of these drownings have occurred are park areas that close at 10:00 pm and occur after the park closes.”
