South&nbsp;Africa&nbsp;skipper Temba Bavuma admitted Friday that his country's reputation for being World Cup "chokers" will only be shed when they capture an elusive maiden international trophy.

The Proteas have often been undone by the weather as well as losing their nerve at key moments with victory within their clutches.

In 1992, they were handed a rain-revised and mathematically impossible target of 22 runs off one ball to defeat England in the semi-final.

Eleven years later, they misread the rain rules in a tied match with Sri Lanka and exited their own tournament.

At the 1999 event, they conjured defeat from certain victory in a farcical finish in their semi-final with Australia.

In their eight World Cup appearances since returning from the wilderness of the apartheid era,&nbsp;South&nbsp;Africa&nbsp;have made four semi-finals but never the championship match.

"As a&nbsp;South&nbsp;African team, we know we're going to have that chip on our block, or that narrative that we have to get over," said Bavuma.

"That's always going to be there until we win a trophy."

Bavuma admits that he has occasionally used the word "choker".

But his team should be buoyed by being free of the baggage of past self-destruction -- seven members of the 15-man squad in India have never played in a World Cup.

That figure includes the 33-year-old Bavuma.

"I think there are guys who believe that it applies to this team, there are guys who don't believe that it applies to this team," he said of the "chokers" tag.

"I think the belief amongst the team, that's the most important bit I bring up to just make sure that we're not kind of skirting around the issue.

"It's that acceptance that it would always be there within the team, within this group, within guys who are to come. Hopefully they don't have to experience that."

The Proteas begin their World Cup against 1996 champions Sri Lanka in New Delhi on Saturday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium where they were bowled out for a paltry 99 on their most recent visit last October.

Bavuma missed the game through illness but said the performance that day illustrates the tricky nature posed by the challenges of playing in India.

"With the World Cup and playing each team once, any team can win on the day, so if you're not there on the day, you can get caught with your pants down," he added.

This World Cup will be the last for star batsman Quinton de Kock after the 30-year-old said in the rest of his career he intends to focus on lucrative Twenty20 franchise cricket.

In his 10-year international career, De Kock has piled up more than 11,000 runs over the three formats with 24 centuries.

"It's becoming tougher and tougher for guys to overlook the opportunity of the lucrativeness of playing in franchise T20 leagues," said Bavuma.

"But for me, it's when you're within the team and you have that opportunity to wear that patch, that you do it with honour, you do it with pride, and you don't take anything for granted."

Talking about Nortje, the 29-year-old has been a vital part of the Proteas across formats. In white-ball cricket, his ability to hit the deck, provide crucial breakthroughs, bowl at any given point and generate good bounce will be missed by Bavuma &amp; Co. Temba Bavuma-led South Africa announce squad for upcoming ODI World Cup; no place for Dewald Brevis

South Africa's bowlers ripped through the West Indies batting as the hosts completed a 284-run win on the fourth day of the second Test at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday.

The West Indies were bowled out for 106 after being set to make 391 to win.

South Africa won the two-match World Test Championship series 2-0.

The match was effectively won and lost in 8.1 overs leading up to lunch when the West Indies crashed to 34 for six.

Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada struck twice in three balls and sparked the collapse after opening batsmen Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul survived the first 10 overs, putting on 21 runs.

Rabada dismissed Brathwaite for the seventh time in successive innings when he trapped the West Indian captain leg before wicket for 18 with a ball which kept low.

Two balls later Raymon Reifer gloved a catch down the leg side to wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen.

Spinners Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj also took two wickets each as the West Indies lost six wickets for 13 runs.

Off-spinner Harmer shared the new ball with Rabada and extracted extravagant turn, having Chanderpaul caught at second slip after the left-hander had faced 36 balls and scored only two runs.

Roston Chase, Jermaine Blackwood and Kyle Mayers all fell cheaply with South Africa's only setback coming after Maharaj won a successful appeal for leg before wicket against Mayers in the last over before lunch.

In celebrating, the left-arm spinner collapsed and was stretchered off the field with a left ankle tendon injury.

Maharaj was taken for a scan. With all-rounder Wiaan Mulder suffering a right index finger injury, which also required a scan, South Africa were effectively down to three frontline bowlers. The West Indies batting, though, had already been wrecked.

Mulder returned after lunch but was not required to bowl.

Joshua Da Silva, Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph all played some aggressive strokes after lunch as the last four wickets yielded 72 runs before the match ended soon after the afternoon drinks break.

There had been concerns about Rabada's fitness after he suffered back pain during the first innings but he showed no signs of discomfort during a hostile seven-over spell.

South Africa were bowled out for 321 earlier, with captain Temba Bavuma adding only one run to his overnight 171 before he was caught at deep square leg off Holder.

Having already led South Africa's U-19 team during the 2014 World Cup in the past, Markram recently guided Sunrisers Eastern Cape to its maiden SA20 title and was later named the skipper of his IPL franchise SunRisers Hyderabad too.

The board also released T20I and ODI squads for the Windies series with the pace battery of Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada given rest for the first two One-Dayers. They would however return to take part in the three-match T20Is, which starts on March 25th in Centurion. On the flip side, seamer Gerald Coetzee and batters Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs have earned their maiden ODI call-up.

Meanwhile, South Africa's new white-ball coach Rob Walter also commented on the squad announcement saying he believes in the group and knows what they can do.

"This is a squad that is high on confidence after beating one of the best white-ball teams in the world, England, in their most recent series," Rob said.

Bavuma&nbsp;has replaced Dean Elgar as skipper in the longest format, though the latter remains part of a much-changed squad. South Africa’s director of cricket Enoch Nkwe has also released convenor of selectors Victor Mpitsang from his duties, with more power given to new test coach Shukri Conrad to pick the side. The test squad contains three uncapped players -- batsman Tony de Zorzi, fast bowler Gerald Coetzee and left-arm spinner Senuran Muthusamy.

The batting line-up has been bolstered by the return of Keegan Petersen from injury, and recalls for Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton. Heinrich Klaasen will play as a wicketkeeper-batsman.

"We believe we have selected the strongest possible group for this series against a strong West Indies team who are coming here fresh from beating Zimbabwe," Conrad said in a media release.

Players dropped include batsmen Sarel Erwee and Rassie van der Dussen, while Theunis de Bruyn announced his retirement from international cricket this week.

The series against the West Indies starts in Pretoria on Feb. 28 and the tour will also contain three one-day internationals and three T20 games.

Bavuma&nbsp;will remain 50-over captain but his successor in the shortest form of the game has yet to be announced. The South African white ball sides are also led by a new coach, Rob Walter.
