Iran on Monday (August 3) said it is not holding any negotiations with the United States and is instead working with Oman to establish a temporary shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz to ensure safe navigation in the strategic waterway. West Asia remains on edge as Iran launched a major retaliatory strike targeting a key U.S. military base in Kuwait after Washington paused fresh attacks. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claims it targeted fighter jet shelters, satellite communications, and military infrastructure, while Kuwait says its air defenses intercepted the incoming drones.

The conflict is expanding across multiple fronts. Iran also claims to have intercepted oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, while the Iran-backed Houthis continue to threaten shipping in the Red Sea, prompting Saudi Arabia and regional allies to form a new maritime security coalition.

Iran Strikes U.S. Base in Kuwait as Trump Faces Growing Pressure Over West Asia War

The conflict in West Asia has intensified once again as the United States launched a fresh wave of military strikes against Iran, following Tehran's missile attacks targeting American bases in Jordan. The renewed escalation comes after nearly a week-long pause in hostilities, raising fresh concerns over regional stability. According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the strikes were carried out in response to attempted Iranian attacks on US forces stationed across the region. Iran confirmed launching ballistic missiles toward US positions in Jordan, while the US said all incoming missiles were successfully intercepted.

US-Iran Conflict Escalates: Fresh Strikes, Missile Attacks and Rising West Asia Tensions

The West Asia war triggered a global energy crisis with disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. While US and Israel claimed to have dealt a big blow to Iran with their strikes, the country’s oil and gas industry remains resilient, using artificial intelligence to boost output. According to Iranian state media, researchers have developed an indigenous, smart production management system. It integrates wells, pipelines and surface processing facilities and adjusts operating conditions to maximise efficiency. According to the researchers, this can increase oil recovery in surface storage facilities by up to 59% over a 20-year production period besides reducing maintenance costs. At the heart of this project is a device that operates automatically without human intervention. This is not all. According to reports, AI has been integrated in the country’s well, reservoir and topside management centre. By utilising machine learning and advanced data analytics, AI is helping optimise operations. For instance, data showed an increase in twelve thousand five hundred barrels per day in seven wells due to optimised operations. AI has also reportedly helped in increasing the production at the Sepehr oil field from 6,500 to 65,000 barrels per day.

Why are these developments so crucial? The oil industry is a key driver of Iran’s economy. While U.S. sought to dent a blow to Iran’s oil exports with its naval blockade, it has achieved limited success. While shipping data indicated that Iranian oil exports fell to their lowest level in at least six years in May. The ceasefire eased pressure on Tehran. Additionally, Iran’s dominance over Strait of Hormuz remains its key leverage point during ongoing negotiations with U.S. For instance, it has stressed that this strategic waterway will never return to its pre-war state. It is also pushing Oman to exercise more control over transit routes in Hormuz. Now, data depicts a story in itself. According to Iranian oil minister Mohsen Paknejad, Iran sold oil worth 11.5 billion U.S. dollars during the war. After signing an MOU with U.S, the country sold additional oil worth 6.5 billion U.S. dollars. Lower risks to tanker traffic and removal of U.S. sanctions during this phase enabled the sale of around 100 million barrels of stored crude oil. The minister also added that the sales generated over 60% of the oil revenue forecast in Iran’s annual budget. Global trade, energy and supply chains remain at risk, though, as tanker traffic in Hormuz is virtually at a standstill. According to Kpler data, only eight ships passed through this strait on Tuesday.

While the US sought to dent a blow to Iran’s oil exports with its naval blockade, it has achieved limited success. Shipping data indicated that Iranian oil exports fell to their lowest level in at least six years in May. But the ceasefire eased pressure on Tehran.

The sanctions target the Persian Gulf Marine Insurance Company and the HormuzSafe Marine Services Authority, which Washington said have links to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The US also sanctioned eight companies operating vessels that it accused of transporting Iranian crude oil and petrochemicals to China and the United Arab Emirates in violation of existing US sanctions. These ships are "part of Iran's 'shadow fleet,' which the regime relies on to evade sanctions," the State Department said. The conflict in West Asia has intensified after joint US-Saudi airstrikes in Iraq reportedly killed at least 20 members of a former paramilitary alliance linked to pro-Iran groups. The strikes came as Iran launched ballistic missiles targeting US military positions, while the US military claimed all incoming missiles were successfully intercepted.

Meanwhile, Iran says it struck oil tankers near the Strait of Hormuz and has proposed a temporary maritime arrangement with Oman to manage shipping routes through the strategic waterway. Saudi Arabia also reported intercepting drones targeting key oil facilities, while Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for attacks on a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea.

Europe and much of Asia are preparing for a potential winter energy crisis as the ongoing Iran conflict continues to disrupt global natural gas supplies. Analysts warn that reduced LNG availability, damage to Qatar's export infrastructure, and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz could tighten global energy markets just months before peak heating demand. According to energy consultancy Wood Mackenzie, Europe's gas storage levels remain well below the target needed for winter, while Asian importers face growing competition for limited LNG cargoes. European natural gas prices have already surged, raising concerns over higher household energy bills, industrial costs, and possible gas rationing if supply conditions worsen.

Iran-US Conflict Update | Houthis Target Saudi Arabia | Ukraine Accuses Russia | Spain Wildfires

The Middle East conflict is entering a dangerous new phase as Yemen's Houthi rebels intensify attacks on Saudi-linked shipping in the Red Sea. After announcing a naval blockade targeting Saudi Arabia, the Houthis claim they have struck Saudi oil tankers, raising fears of a wider regional war and renewed disruption to global energy supplies.
The escalation comes as shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains heavily disrupted, placing immense pressure on another vital maritime chokepoint—the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Saudi Arabia, which has relied on Red Sea ports to bypass Hormuz, now faces fresh threats to its oil exports.

Houthis Target Saudi Oil Tankers | Red Sea Blockade Escalates | US Faces New Middle East Crisis

Iran is intensifying pressure in West Asia through its Houthi allies, who have launched fresh attacks on Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea, raising fears of a major global energy crisis. With the Strait of Hormuz already under pressure, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait has emerged as a second strategic choke point, threatening global oil and gas supplies.

The Houthis claim responsibility for missile and drone strikes on Saudi-linked vessels, while Saudi Arabia has confirmed damage to one of its oil tankers. Analysts warn that if both the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb are disrupted simultaneously, nearly one-quarter of the world's oil and gas supply could be affected.

Global energy markets are facing renewed uncertainty as Brent crude oil prices surge above $94 per barrel amid rising US-Iran tensions. Analysts warn that crude prices could approach $100 per barrel soon, while a worst-case scenario could push Brent back toward $120 if oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz are severely disrupted.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most important energy routes, carrying millions of barrels of oil every day. Any escalation in the Middle East could trigger a fresh oil shock, impacting fuel prices, inflation, and global economies.
