A double-decker bus was put on fire in front of the Daniel O'Connell statue at the head of the street, windows were smashed at a nearby Holiday Inn hotel and McDonald's restaurant. &nbsp;A Footlocker store was also looted, as per news agency Reuters.

"They are disgraceful scenes. We have a complete lunatic, hooligan faction driven by far-right ideology engaged in serious violence," Police Commissioner Drew Harris told reporters after deploying 400 officers to restore public order.

A police car was also burnt in the violent clashes.

Harris said all lines of inquiry related to the attack remained open, contrary to a senior officer who had ruled out terrorism.

"Every force possible is being used by the Gardai (police) to restore order. This will not be tolerated."

Police are working to establish a motive but do not suspect a terrorist motivation behind the attack, reported Irish national broadcaster RTE. The broadcaster citing a witness on the scene said she saw a man in a “stabbing motion” from across the road.&nbsp;

“We got another young man, disarmed him (the attacker) with the knife, another man took the knife and put it away for the garda to find it,” an eyewitness named Siobhan Kearney told RTE.&nbsp;

She added that a group of people restrained the suspect while some of those injured were taken back inside the school.&nbsp;

A five-year-old California boy fatally stabbed his twin brother, authorities said.

The twins were fighting when one brother grabbed a small kitchen knife and stabbed his sibling in unincorporated Scotts Valley, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office. The boy died at the hospital.

India: Telangana MP Prabhakar Reddy stabbed in stomach during rally

Samantha Woll, the president of a Detroit synagogue board, was&nbsp;found dead on Saturday morning (Oct 21), with multiple stab wounds outside her home, as reported by CNN. The synagogue announced this news on Facebook, stating Woll's role as the board president of the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue in Downtown Detroit.

"We are shocked and saddened to learn of the unexpected death of Samantha Woll, our Board President," the synagogue said, adding, "May her memory be a blessing."

As per CNN's report, the Detroit Police Department received a call on Saturday morning reporting an unresponsive woman&nbsp;lying on the ground. Upon their arrival at the scene, they discovered a "trail of blood" leading them to Woll's residence.

Woll was pronounced dead at the scene, and authorities suspect that the crime occurred inside her home.

As of now, law enforcement has not determined the motive behind the killing. The case has been handed over to the homicide unit for further investigation, the report stated.

The FBI in Detroit has also expressed its commitment to assisting local law enforcement in the investigation of this crime.

"The FBI is aware of the incident, and we will assist the Detroit Police Department as requested," CNN quoted the FBI as saying in a statement.

"This entire city joins with her family and friends in mourning her tragic death," he added.

A 14-year-old student, on Thursday (Sep&nbsp;28), launched a violent attack at a school in southern Spain, stabbing three teachers and two students before being caught, said police.

The teenager, who has not yet been named, allegedly stabbed the five victims repeatedly briefly after classes began at the school in Jerez de la Frontera, news agency AFP reported citing police spokesman Adrian Dominguez. He was described as hot-headed by his fellow pupils.

"Police located the suspect on the third floor. He had in his possession the two knives used to attack three teachers and two students," Dominguez said, adding the suspect had been taken to a police station.

The spokesman did not elaborate on the seriousness of the injuries at the moment. However, as per Spanish media reports, one teacher had sustained critical injuries and was in serious condition after being attacked in the eye, while the rest suffered light injuries.

As per Spanish media reports, several students said that the teenager often got into fights and was short-tempered.

"I saw the guy with two knives with a look on his face like he wanted to stab everyone," one student who declined to be named told Canal Sur television.

A border police officer, who was inside a moving tram, saw the attack as it occurred and took action, said the police. He "promptly disembarked from the train and fired", hitting the suspect, they stated.

The 14-year-old teenager was from east Jerusalem's Beit Hanina neighbourhood and he was pronounced dead by the medical officials, he said.

The Magen David Adom emergency service stated that they treated a 25-year-old man who was stabbed in the back. The injured man was later taken to the hospital. As per a statement issued by Shaare Zedek Hospital, the wounded man was in a "stable" condition. 
 
Dozens of Israeli security personnel had gathered at the station where many ultra-Orthodox Jews, wearing white shirts and black suits, were also present, as reported by an AFP correspondent. The body of the attacker kept on the ground and wrapped in a blanket was seen by an AFP photographer. 
 
Ice was used by some security officers to clean the site where blood stains were still present. Palestinian militant group Hamas, which has the Gaza Strip under its control, said that a “heroic” operation was carried out by the attacker at the tram station.

A 24-year-old University of Waterloo student, Geovanny Villalba-Aleman, has been charged following a triple stabbing attack which is believed to be hate-motivated, as per local media reports.&nbsp;The attack took place during a gender studies class, Philosophy 202, which explores gender issues, according to the university's website. Waterloo Regional Police have filed three counts of aggravated assault, four counts of assault with a weapon, and two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose against Villalba-Aleman.

Authorities believed that the attack, which occurred on Wednesday afternoon, was motivated by hate and targeted gender expression and gender identity.&nbsp; 
 
In a statement, Waterloo police said, “The accused targeted a gender studies class and investigators believe this was a hate-motivated incident related to gender expression and gender identity."

The accused, an international student, was apprehended inside the building shortly after the stabbing incident.&nbsp;He has since been taken into custody. Villalba-Aleman appeared in court for a bail hearing on Thursday in view of the charges against him.&nbsp;

The description of the course, during which the stabbing attack took place, states that it delves into "construction of gender in the history of philosophy through contemporary discussions."&nbsp;

Yusuf Kaymak, a student who was present in the class at the time, recounted the events. He mentioned that approximately 40 students were in attendance at the time of the stabbing attack.&nbsp;

Canada: Hate-motivated triple stabbing at University of Waterloo, student charged

The United Kingdom’s Metropolitan Police, on Monday (June 26) named a major suspect in the decades-old investigation of the Stephen Lawrence murder and admitted making too many mistakes in the initial investigation. The name of the new suspect emerged following a BBC investigation which found that the Met police “seriously mishandled key inquiries” related to Matthew White, which the report said was central to the case.&nbsp;

<h2>What is the case about?</h2>

Stephen Lawrence, a Black teenager was murdered in a reportedly racially motivated attack in south-east London in April 1993. It is said to be the UK’s most notorious racist killing while the failure of the first police investigation also&nbsp;prompted a public inquiry into the Met police which found that they were institutionally racist.&nbsp;

During the inquiry in 1999, the Met Police were branded institutionally racist for their bungling of a high-profile racially motivated killing of a black teenager. An inquiry into the police investigation found that it had been “marred by a combination of professional incompetence, institutional racism and a failure of leadership”.

Lawrence, who was 18 at the time, is said to have been stabbed to death by a “gang of young white men,” as per BBC. The UK-based media outlet also reported that the five prime suspects became widely known after the murder while the public inquiry said there were “five or six” attackers.&nbsp;

The newly named suspect, Matthew White, was publicly named in 2011 for the first time at the trial of David Norris and Gary Dobson. The duo had been given life sentences for Lawrence’s murder in 2012, while the other three suspects – Luke Knight and brothers Neil and Jamie Acourt were, acquitted.&nbsp;

Matthew White is now the sixth suspect named following the BBC investigation. White, who died in August 2021, at the age of 50, first appeared on the police radar after he was presented&nbsp;as a witness related to the case for Norris and Dobson in 2011.&nbsp;

The new investigation by BBC finds that White was central to the case. Initially, he was known as Witness K and was granted an alias despite never really cooperating with police said the UK-based media outlet.&nbsp;

Additionally, a relative of White had also tried to speak to the Met after the murder but wrong information was entered into the police database and the lead was not followed, said the media report. BBC’s investigation also found that when the relative was eventually traced by the police 20 years later,&nbsp;the relative said that White had admitted to being present during the attack.&nbsp;

This was in addition to another witness back in 2000 who reportedly said that White had admitted to being a part of the attack. The media report citing evidence also said that White’s alibi was false and that police surveillance photos of White showed a resemblance to witness accounts of an unidentified fair-haired attacker. &nbsp;

<h2>‘Too many mistakes’: Met police about their investigation</h2>

In a statement to BBC, Deputy Assistant Commissioner Matt Ward, said, “Unfortunately, too many mistakes were made in the initial investigation.” This comes after the UK police took the almost unprecedented step of naming White as a suspect following the media report. It added, “The impact of them continues to be seen.”&nbsp;

She added, “Only when police officers lose their jobs can the public have confidence that failure and incompetence will not be tolerated and that change will happen.”&nbsp;

Following the party, they both returned to their shared flat, where they kept drinking. Once there, the fight was reignited and things got heated up and the disagreement turned into a scuffle, during which Sapna stabbed Rani in the chest using a kitchen knife.

Reportedly, Rani abusing Sapna's dead father was the trigger for the assault and the murder.

Upon reaching the spot, police found Sapna sitting next to Rani's body, which was lying in a pool of blood. Sapna, as per the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi, has confessed to the crime. A postmortem of Rani's body will be done, following which it'll be handed to her loved ones.

"Teams of FSL and crime have inspected the spot. We have registered a case of murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. Based on the investigation, the accused Sapna was arrested after she confessed to her crime. Efforts are being taken to recover the weapon of offence," said Kalsi.

According to local media reports, the attackers entered the prison by cutting the grills of the first floor and then hiding in a place without arousing suspicion. Later, around 6.15 am (local time) on Tuesday, they used that route to come down and kill Tillu.

According to the cops, Tajpuriya was eliminated by the henchmen of rival gangster Jitender Gogi, who was shot dead inside a court in 2021.

They said that the assailants wanted to avenge their leader's death. They used bedsheets to climb down a floor and barged into his cell, the police said.

The deceased gangster had shifted from nearby Rohini jail about 15 days ago to Tihar jail and was to be shifted again within five days. Three of the four killers of Tillu were shifted to Tihar this year only.

Notably, this is the second case of violence and gang rivalry inside the Tihar jail in a month.

In April, Prince Tewatia, a close aide of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was killed in the same jail by rival gang members. He was accused of aiding the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala.

A probe has been initiated and the case will be handled by a special cell. The case was registered in Hari Nagar police station under sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

It is not known if the victims were students, but a representative from the Iowa City Police Department told ABC News that the injured were “about that age."

A US passenger was arrested for allegedly stabbing a flight attendant using a metal spoon and attempting to open an exit door while he was on board a United Airlines flight,&nbsp;prosecutors said on Monday.

Francisco Severo Torres, a 33-year-old resident of Massachusetts, was arrested on Sunday after the plane landed at Boston Logan International Airport after flying from Los Angeles, stated the US Attorney's Office for Massachusetts.

Torres, who lives in Massachusetts' Leominster, is facing charges of attempted interference with flight attendants and crew members using a dangerous weapon, it said in a statement.

Shortly afterwards, a flight attendant was allegedly attacked by Torres with a broken metal spoon, "hitting the flight attendant on the neck area three times," said the US Attorney's Office.

"Passengers then tackled Torres and he was restrained with the assistance of flight crew," it added.

United Airlines issued a statement saying that "no serious injuries were reported."

However, local media reports claimed that the assailant was the mother of those five children.

“This is a fluid investigation, and we will update you as things evolve,” Deputy Cozby said at the news conference. “Right now, the most important thing are prayers for the family of those involved.”

The sheriff also ruled any danger to the public “at this time.”

Earlier, a statement released by the sheriff’s office said that it believed “this to be an isolated incident that presents no further threat to the Italy Community.”

The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services in a statement expressed shock at the tragedy, saying that they are assisting the officials with the investigation.

Three children stabbed, two others injured in Texas

Prosecutors on Friday charged a 16-year-old boy with murder over the fatal stabbing of his Spanish teacher during class earlier this week in southwest France, his lawyer said.

The teenager reported a "little voice" suggested he kill Agnes Lassalle, 52, at the school in the southwestern seaside town of Saint-Jean-de-Luz on Wednesday, according to a prosecutor.

Lawyer Thierry Sagardoytho told journalists that his client would be held in custody at an unnamed "facility that will take into account his youth and the care he needs".

"We are speaking about a young man who was previously not on any judicial or school radar and who acted suddenly based on personal motives that I will not divulge publicly but that need to be probed by psychiatrists," he said.

This was necessary to determine whether he might have suffered from "altered" judgement, the lawyer said, adding that he had been shocked by the results of an initial psychiatric examination of the boy while in detention.

But he was found to be capable of bearing criminal responsibility for his acts.

In conversations with a psychiatrist, the boy said he had had a fight with a classmate the day before and wanted to "punish him in some way" by committing the killing in front of him, the prosecutor said.

He also admitted "a kind of animosity towards his Spanish teacher, in a subject where he wasn't getting good grades, unlike his other classes," he added.

One pupil at the school described Lassalle as a "good listener" and a "very kind teacher".

Schools across France held a minute of silence in her memory on Thursday afternoon.

Pupils returned to their classrooms in the Saint-Jean-de-Luz school on Friday morning under the watchful eye of three policemen posted at the gates, an AFP reporter said.

Such attacks at schools are rare in France, but there have been growing concerns about the security of teachers.

The attack in Saint-Jean-de-Luz is the first killing of a teacher in the country since an Islamist radical beheaded Samuel Paty outside Paris in October 2020.

Northumbria Police Ch Cuot Sam Rennison said Holly, "still had so much left to look forward to in life, and this tragic incident has left her family devastated beyond words".&nbsp;

She added, "Their grief simply cannot be put into words, and our thoughts are with both families involved and their loved ones as we continue to support them in every way we can."

Rennison said detectives believed that all those involved in the incident were known to each other and there was no wider risk to the public.

With the teenage boy now being charged in connection with this incident, Rennison asked everyone to avoid any speculation, both out in the community and on social media, that could jeopardise the live legal proceedings.&nbsp;

In court, he invoked his right to stay silent during much of the questioning and at the end of the hearing, he just said that this was because he felt "great shame" about what he did.&nbsp;

France: Self-styled ‘seduction coach’ jailed for life for stabbing ex-girlfriend over 80 times to death

An Indian student in Australia is said to be critical&nbsp;after being stabbed 11 times last week in a brutal knife attack that his family alleges was a hate crime. Shubham Garg, 28, pursuing a PhD from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, was attacked on October 6. His parents, who live in Agra in Uttar Pradesh, have been trying to get a visa to travel to Australia.

On October 6, at around 10.30 p.m., a man stopped him as he was returning from an ATM with cash and demanded his money while threatening him with a knife. He was repeatedly stabbed by the assailant after he refused.

According to sources, Shubham sustained several injuries to his face, chest, and abdomen. He was able to get to a nearby house in that condition&nbsp;and was taken to the hospital.&nbsp;A 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder. The attacker wasn't known to Shubham, according to reports.

Shubham needed several surgeries, his sister Kavya Garg tweeted appealing to the government to help the family with emergency visas.

The incident took place in Bishopsgate in central London near Liverpool Street station. Police, paramedics and ambulance are on the spot and as per media reports, the area has been cordoned off.

City of London Police confirmed the incident on Twitter. The police said that incident was "not being treated as terror-related".

Those injured were taken to nearby hospital and were receiving treatment.

London: Three people stabbed near Liverpool Street station in central London

A Swiss woman was given a nine-year jail term on Monday for slashing two people in the name of the Islamic State group but her sentence was suspended so she can undergo psychiatric treatment.

The court found the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, guilty of attempted murder and of terrorism-linked charges.

She had "no respect for human life", court president Fiorenza Bergomi said as she read out the verdict.&nbsp;

She had "acted in cold blood, had planned her actions and decided what weapon to use, and where to buy it", Bergomi continued.

The 29-year-old woman's mental state was at the heart of the trial at&nbsp;Switzerland's Federal Criminal Court in Bellinzona, in the southern Italian-speaking Ticino region where the attack occurred.

The attack, which did not result in fatalities, took place on November 24, 2020 in the plush Manor department store in Lugano, near Bellinzona.

The woman had suddenly lunged at two random women shopping at the store, attempting to slit their throats.

According to the Office of the Attorney General's indictment, the accused "acted wilfully and with particular ruthlessness", shouted "Allahu akbar" (God is greatest) several times and "I will avenge the Prophet Mohammed", and declared "I am here for IS", the Islamic State jihadist group.

No remorse

One of the two victims suffered a serious neck injury, while the second sustained wounds on one hand and managed, with others, to control the assailant until the police arrived.

During the trial, the court heard that the woman has been in contact with psychologists and psychiatrists since childhood, with two experts testifying that she suffers from a range of psychological disorders.

Her lawyers argue the accused's psychological disorders mean the attack could not be considered a "terrorist act" because the woman lived in a fantasy world.

When questioned during the trial, the woman showed no remorse, telling the court: "If I could go back, I would do it better."

On Monday, she was found guilty of "repeated murder attempts" and of violating the Swiss laws against association with Al-Qaeda, IS and related Islamist groups.&nbsp;

She was&nbsp;also found guilty of repeated unlawful prostitution between 2017 and 2020.

The accused was ordered to pay the woman who suffered the most serious injuries, and who was a civil party in the case, 41,000 Swiss francs ($42,000) to cover her legal costs and as compensation for the "moral wrong".

'Lone wolves'

The court president pointed to studies indicating that terror suspects could suffer from stress and psychiatric problems.

"We must not forget that there are... people with psychiatric problems who do not belong to terrorist organisations, but who are considered lone wolves," she said.

Monday's verdict was in line with the prosecution's request, but her sentence was shorter than the 14-year-term it had asked for.

The prosecutors, who had also suggested her sentence be suspended and that she be committed to a closed treatment facility for as long as she was deemed a threat, said Monday that they "took note" of the verdict, but did not indicate whether they would appeal.

The daughter of a Swiss father and a Serbian mother, her adolescence was marked by anorexia and she did not attend secondary school.

Aged 19, she married a man of Afghan origin and converted to Islam. The pair divorced last year.

After falling in love over social media in 2017 with a jihadist in Syria, she attempted to travel to meet him, but was stopped by Turkish authorities at the Syrian border and sent back to&nbsp;Switzerland&nbsp;where she was admitted to a psychiatric clinic, police said.

The accused was ordered to pay the woman who suffered the most serious injuries, and who was a civil party in the case, 41,000 Swiss francs ($42,000) to cover her legal costs and as compensation for the "moral wrong". 'Lone wolves' The court president pointed to studies indicating that terror suspects could suffer from stress and psychiatric problems. "We must not forget that there are... people with psychiatric problems who do not belong to terrorist organisations, but who are considered lone wolves," she said.
